Charity criticised for handing senior role to Aimee Challenor who defended paedophile dad

A news story in the Mirror. Cant see any other reports on this.

^A police-backed charity for vulnerable young people handed a senior role to a woman who shockingly teamed up with her paedophile dad to try to become an MP.

Prism has been criticised for working with Aimee Challenor - who left the Green Party in disgrace after using her dad as an election agent while on bail accused of raping a 10-year-old.

The charity helps gay, lesbian and trans young people and was hailed as “excellent” by a senior police officer.

But it faces calls to sever ties with Ms Challenor - whose dad David was locked up for 22 years over the child abuse.

She was then criticised in an independent Verita report commissioned by the Greens after complaints about using her dad David during the 2017 general election campaign.

Andy Healey, a Green Party activist and youth worker, described Prism’s decision to work with Ms Challenor as “outrageous and disturbing”.

Mr Healey had raised concerns about the decision to appoint Mr Challenor but was threatened with an injunction, he claims.^

Good. The most light that's shone on that situation the better. Challenor should not be working with kids.

thehorseandhisboy · 27/10/2019 18:52

Is the charity Prism Youth Project?

If so, it has a turnover of over £500K.

I wonder what experience and expertise 21 year old AC has to offer?

CoolCarrie · 27/10/2019 18:58

It’s good to see the mirror covering this shocking story, especially due to the dubious behaviour of Challenor’s partner.

stumbledin · 27/10/2019 19:03

I couldn't work out with charity it was or whereabouts it was based.

That's why I was looking for other sources.

The Prism Youth Project is a police initiative but isn't as the article suggest for young lesbians and gay men.

It's in Coventry if I remember a previous thread correctly.

thehorseandhisboy · 27/10/2019 19:38

I assume that it's this one then prismlgbtq.org/

thehorseandhisboy · 27/10/2019 19:42

If so, it's tiny charity offering a free weekly social group for young people in Coventry.

'A senior role' might be over stating the case somewhat tbh.

SarahTancredi · 27/10/2019 22:49

They weren't "criticised" they were found to have zero concept of safeguarding.

The complaints werent just about the dad either. Their fiance openly admitted on twitter about the fact they are a MAP ( minor attracted person).

The charity also arranges meet ups work said vulnerable young people. Hence the absolute surprise and disgust that a certain person could be allowed to be involved.

raisinseverywhere · 27/10/2019 23:23

It’s a youth club for children aged 13 and all ages up to adults aged 21. Pretty difficult for safeguarding I would assume.

TerfTalk · 27/10/2019 23:28

Why would a 21-year old want to hang out with a 13-year old? Sounds like a bit of an odd club.

MrGsFancyNewVagina · 27/10/2019 23:35

I assume it’s the same Andrew that got suspended from the Green Party in March, for two years. Brave man, as it looks like he was determined to shine a light on the AC situation.

SetYourselfOnFire · 28/10/2019 00:28

I said something to Prism Youth the other week and their only response was to block me. Halloween Biscuit I hope they're shamed into acting, but it's not like they don't know, which is an alarm bell itself.

MrsJamin · 28/10/2019 05:32

Challenor might well be in charge of their Twitter, SetYourselfOnFire. How people don't give attention to safeguarding when they are trying to help young vulnerable people is beyond me Confused

HandsOffMyRights · 28/10/2019 07:31

It's a youth club and, according to PRISM, For many of the young people who use our service they struggle with social isolation, bullying or loneliness which can manifest itself as mild to severe mental health problems including depression

So it's for vulnerable children and youths as mentioned upthread.

Thingybob · 28/10/2019 07:43

At one time Prism posted more photos and videos of the adult volunteers running the service and I thought everyone of them were oddballs (to put it politely)

For many of the young people who use our service they struggle with social isolation, bullying or loneliness which can manifest itself as mild to severe mental health problems including depression

I think it should be remembered that Challenor was once one of those vulnerable young people who turned to Prism (or its predecessor) for support.

MrsJamin · 28/10/2019 12:27

The twitter profile for prism has gone private. Hmm

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 28/10/2019 12:40

Sarah
Yea here the thread about their fiance. And their, Aimees that is, farms page is an eye opener.

I'm a bit confused as to how the article can describe this charity as 'police-backed'.

Maybe the journo got a bit mixed up on Google.

But yes a complete safeguarding nightmare which explicitly recruits vulnerable and isolated young people.

Probably because if this horse
Of course he never responded. The police officer that is.

EverardDigby · 28/10/2019 14:12

I'm a bit confused as to how the article can describe this charity as 'police-backed'.

Possibly funded through a small grant from the police and crime commissioner, though I can’t see any record of it from a quick Google.

SugarPlumFairyCakes · 28/10/2019 16:43

AC has spent a considerable amount of time 'advising' local police on all matters 'trans' and has been publicly thanked for their input.

allmywhat · 28/10/2019 18:10

And their, Aimees that is, farms page is an eye opener.

Indeed it is. I didn't think this story could get worse than what I already knew about.

Who made the decision that Aimee should be allowed to work with vulnerable children?

By the way I saw someone on the Twitter thread say that the full Veritas report is no longer available, so just FYI to anyone who may wish to refer to it - it has been archived there.

Coldwatershock · 29/10/2019 10:48

Hi. Can anyone direct me to the blog article by Nathaniel Knight (rather than the Twitter feeds)? I found it last night and now can't...

WitchfinderGeneralHarrumph · 29/10/2019 11:47

The blog has been scrubbed and huge swathes of AC & NK's online stuff has 'mysteriously' disappeared. It's archived, though.

Coldwatershock · 29/10/2019 12:20

Any idea where I can find the archived version? Sorry to be dim..
