Charity criticised for handing senior role to Aimee Challenor who defended paedophile dad

A news story in the Mirror. Cant see any other reports on this.

^A police-backed charity for vulnerable young people handed a senior role to a woman who shockingly teamed up with her paedophile dad to try to become an MP.

Prism has been criticised for working with Aimee Challenor - who left the Green Party in disgrace after using her dad as an election agent while on bail accused of raping a 10-year-old.

The charity helps gay, lesbian and trans young people and was hailed as “excellent” by a senior police officer.

But it faces calls to sever ties with Ms Challenor - whose dad David was locked up for 22 years over the child abuse.

She was then criticised in an independent Verita report commissioned by the Greens after complaints about using her dad David during the 2017 general election campaign.

Andy Healey, a Green Party activist and youth worker, described Prism’s decision to work with Ms Challenor as “outrageous and disturbing”.

Mr Healey had raised concerns about the decision to appoint Mr Challenor but was threatened with an injunction, he claims.^

If you didn't know about this person, you wouldn't know their gender identity from the article - it is consistent throughout with pronouns etc, no mention that this person is trans. If you didn't know, you wouldn't know from the reporting. I'm uncomfortable with the omission, probably because I know if their history. Barracker's words about pronouns spring to mind.

Evenquieterlife33 · 29/10/2019 21:59

This person is relentless.

MrsJamin · 01/11/2019 07:45

Aimee says that Aimee's partner's twitter was hacked... yeah right! I'm glad there is light being shone on Aimee's activities at last.

SarahTancredi · 01/11/2019 07:47

There will be an apology and mass unblocking now right?

ArcheryAnnie · 01/11/2019 09:01

I see a lot of TRAs and "allies" say that Aimee is a fairly fragile vulnerable young person themselves, after growing up in a household like that, and so should not be held to the same standards as anyone else, and that we are mean to connect the sins of the father to Aimee.

If that's the case then that's a reason to prevent Aimee from having any responsibilities towards children and young people, and indeed it's also a counter-indication that Aimee is in a good place to have a political career of any sort at all.

I just don't understand why anyone, anywhere, would imagine that a position on a children's and youth charity would be a good choice for someone who had demonstrably failed at safeguarding (and isn't it amazing that hiring someone who they knew tortured and raped a ten-year-old is being minimised and excused by so many people), and whose current partner is a self-admitted Minor Attracted Person (and what a euphemism that is).

I mean, if you want to do charitable work, there's a ton of stuff out there that isn't child-related. Hell, Aimee until very recently was gunning for deputy leader of the Green Party, but hadn't noticeably done any environmental campaigning work at all. Why not do a bit of that?

Yes, that’s an often repeated excuse for Aimee’s behaviour. However, if you’re a young woman that has been raped and you feel uncomfortable sharing a space with a male bodied person, then you’re a horrible bigot and terf that needs to ‘get over it’. Teflon Teflon Teflon.

'Ms Challenor, aged 22, told us tonight her partner’s Twitter account had been hacked, adding: “The tweets that were purported to appear on my partner’s account were not his thoughts or opinions.

“He deleted the tweets as soon as he could'

'Hacked', was it, aye?

GCAcademic · 01/11/2019 09:21

Funny how often these people get “hacked”. So many of them are IT nerds, as well. You’d think they have better cyber security.

OhHolyJesus · 01/11/2019 09:51

Just like the ex- IT consultant who is now the CEO of a charity that had a data breach...

So glad this is being covered and that Prism was also mentioned. I'm not on board with the pronouns but I'm grateful to see some half decent journalism taking place.

RoyalCorgi · 01/11/2019 09:54

Aimee says that Aimee's partner's twitter was hacked... yeah right!

Probably by the same person who hacked Rebekah Vardy's Instagram.

realitycalling · 01/11/2019 09:58

Well done the Coventry Observer for investigating this. Note the 'stonewalling' tactics from the Lib Dems. With a general election happening they must be desperately hoping that the press will ignore the "activities" of some of their other political officers.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/11/2019 10:22

Good to see the Coventry Observer investigating this.

AC also went on holiday during the Veritas investigation and tweeted a jolly update from Centre Parcs. Timing is everything.

AC has also previously tweeted about proactively visiting the police HQ in Coventry to report Twitter 'transphobes' so must be well known to the local officers (in addition to AC's father David Challenor's crimes of course).

RoyalCorgi · 01/11/2019 10:51

Yes, HandsOff - I'm sure Aimee is very well-known to police officers. Don't forget the time that Aimee was arrested on suspicion of threatening to launch a cyber attack on Birmingham’s Bullring Shopping Centre.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/11/2019 10:58

I'd forgotten about that and I'm from that area.

Funny how somebody who seems to know about cyber attacks and T*blocker says they are a victim of hacking.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/11/2019 11:00

(Not sure if T*RF is a banned word on here?)

jadefinch · 11/03/2020 14:46

It's now emerged that the chair of the charity Coventry & Warwickshire Friend, a children's LGBT charity that transferred all its assets to Coventry Pride in 2018 - which at the time had Aimee Challenor as a director, had a convicted paedophile as its chair.

James Riley was jailed in 2018 - just before Baloo Challenor was jailed, for 11 and a half years for sexually abusing a 3 year old boy at the nursery he worked at.

Riley was also a director at PrismLGBTQ - the children's LGBT charity in which it seems every director has links with paedophiles.

Checks! Why are there no checks?

Or if there are... far more sinister. This is heartbreaking - its as if vulnerable children are being stalked.

FloralBunting · 11/03/2020 14:55

Jesus.

What the ever living fuck is going on?

endofthelinefinally · 11/03/2020 15:04

Why is this not all over the press/news?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 11/03/2020 15:06

had a convicted paedophile as its chair

I wish it were shocking but lets be honest we've "known" for ages haven't we.

We know who is behind this whole thing.

Even as little as a year ago when i said it there were posters still unsure, a year alter it gets harder and harder to deny the facts.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 11/03/2020 15:10

PIE just got sneakier it never went away, ever.

CharlieParley · 11/03/2020 15:21

So did LGBT Youth Scotland. There was no investigation nothing. Someone else took over and that was it.

James Rennie was convicted in 2008. He was found to be one of the ringleaders of a pedophile network and got life, minimum term 13 years.

When he was first arrested, he was the head of LGBT Youth Scotland and a respected advisor to both the Scottish and the UK Government on gay issues involving children.

CharlieParley · 11/03/2020 15:21

Found guilty in 2009, not 2008.
