It increasingly feels like we should treat witch hunts against individual women as attacks on women as a class.

I thought women here might appreciate a thread to show their support for Allison. I don't know her personally, but I believe in all women's right to free speech.

I stand with Alison.

I'm with you 100% Allison. You are one brave woman. You shouldn't have to be brave in order to be LGB or defend the rights of LBG people in Britain in 2019 but here we are.

Is the alliance something any LGB person can join? If so count me in.

RuffleCrow · 28/10/2019 20:29

I ask because (of course) google doesn't let me see a website or anything useful like that.

Thank you Alison. It's going to be hard for you but so many are with you. FlowersFlowersFlowers

RuffleCrow, this was RT’d by Allison.

Just joined today, and I'd like to say that it's nice to see a forum/space that is still sane and doesn't put up with bullying from TRA's. There's a hellova lot of censorship at the moment in other places, where questioning the safety of gender neutral toilets or fairness in sport invites aggression and infantile name-calling.

I have been watching the facebook alliance LGB page with interest. The trans activists seem afraid of the split.

zebrasdontwearbras · 28/10/2019 23:03

Welcome Cranberries Wine - check out the rules at the top of the forum - you do still need to be careful what you say - but it's great that MN allow the discussion at all - the pressure they're under from TRAs is phenomenal.

CranberriesChoccy · 28/10/2019 23:21

I had a look earlier, thanks. 👍 I am sure I will pick things up as I go.

RuffleCrow · 28/10/2019 23:28

Thanks @AuntyElle Halloween Smile

ChipOnMyOvary · 29/10/2019 01:39

hi cranberry great post

RosesAndLilies · 29/10/2019 06:20

How did I miss the news story about the creepy pervert where it's a "medical condition" so he got left off!?!?!?!? AngryShockHmm

It's ridiculous not to mention setting a dangerous precedent

LangCleg · 29/10/2019 08:38

Late to arrive but obvs I stand with Allison.

Card written and will be sent later today.

IrisAtwood · 29/10/2019 08:46

I have emailed Garden Court Chambers using their online contact form telling them how disgusted I am:

www.gardencourtchambers.co.uk/contact#form

BabyItsAWildWorld · 29/10/2019 09:11

I stand with Allison.
I'll be sending a card today.

teawamutu · 29/10/2019 09:12

Brilliant, Iris - I've done the same. Hopefully Allison already has my postcard.

Macareaux · 29/10/2019 09:17

Was coming on here looking for this exactly.

Allison is a superstar. We will only turn the tide by speaking out and emboldening others and in turn making it safe to do so.

Thank you Allison x

Macareaux · 29/10/2019 09:19

Cranberries - I'm sure they are afraid of a split. Any cult reacts badly when adherents wake up and leave.

JustAnotherMammi · 29/10/2019 09:22

@RosesAndLilies it would be foolish to pretend that Allison was not carefully selected as the first large-scale witch hunt. She's a black, lesbian woman and to pretend that each of those factors won't help turn hate towards her would be foolish. The perfect person to use to set a precedent, which is why it's so important Garden Court Chambers know she has more support than haters.

Needmoresleep · 29/10/2019 10:38

JustAnother I think there is more to it than that, and I would hesitate before suggesting hate, prejudice or phobia. In the same way as many women oppose self-ID for reasons other than "transphobia" and half the country voted Brexit for reasons other than racism, there may be many reasons why Allison is being targeted.

I would be far more cynical. There have been successful crowdfunders for test cases that might push back the current madness. The money is being raised but some people have had problems finding lawyers brave enough to take on their cases. If Allison's professional career is halted because she is perceived to be gender critical, virtually no lawyer in the land, and especially no lawyer from chambers working on equalities and human rights, will take on future cases.

I doubt it matters one joy whether she is black or lesbian. TELI will not want Garden Court to house someone who might oppose their agenda.

CranberriesChoccy · 29/10/2019 10:40

@Macareaux It really is like a cult, isn't it. Very Stepford, which has a certain irony because you would think trans supporters and activists would welcome differing opinions and reject conformity of thought.

Pota2 · 29/10/2019 13:19

Barristers aren’t allowed to refuse to take cases on grounds of personal belief though. They have to represent whoever needs representation. Four barristers are speaking at Rosa Freedman’s event at Reading next months, one of them a v high profile QC, about the importance of sex as a protected characteristic in law.
I think that if Allison worked somewhere other than Wokesville that her chambers would have told TRAs to jog on. Unfortunately they have an image to maintain.

Needmoresleep · 29/10/2019 14:46

Sorry. I don’t know too much about law. However I still think Allison is being targeted because of where she works. TELI presumably know her colleagues well.

Pota2 · 29/10/2019 15:28

Needmoresleep definitely! Look at the speakers included in this programme of the TELI launch:

www.gardencourtchambers.co.uk/events/trans-equality-legal-initiative-launch-conference

Most of the TELI founding members work at GCC.

Needmoresleep · 29/10/2019 15:36

Wow, and thanks. I am sure that if R0wan were here she would be able to prove a whole load of links. There was a report of a meeting planning a co-ordinated approach to the Self-ID campaign from about 18 months back, which was particularly illuminating.

Allison is very brave indeed. Whatever individuals may think, it is hard to raise your head above the parapet when you are going against the prevailing orthodoxy at your place of work.

JustAnotherMammi · 29/10/2019 15:36

I didn't know TELI was a thing until now, why isn't that being targeted as anti-LGB? Why are they excluding them?

The double-standards are shocking.
