Has anyone heard from her?

The last I saw she had lost her login and had made a new account.

I miss her. I hope the confusion hasn't seen her suspended.

Hello all. Nice to be back

Yeah true about email addresses. I never looked at one linked to here.

Actually hq sent me an email to say shall we stop sending you emails cos you don’t open them 🥴

littlbrowndog · 26/10/2019 11:58

Fekko oh no

OrchidInTheSun · 26/10/2019 12:05

Yes I also didn't realise I'd been suspended because I couldn't remember what email I'd used and then everything that MN sends me automatically goes into my trash folder.

I hope fekko comes back soon :( Is anyone in touch with her off the boards?

TheChampagneGalop · 26/10/2019 12:36

Welcome back ladies who have been on the naughty stepWine That's a lot of us now. It would be easier to avoid strikes if FWR's special rules were clearer.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 26/10/2019 12:49

It would be easier to avoid strikes if FWR's special rules were clearer.

I think that's very important. But how can we persuade @MNHQ to clarify the situation? It's outrageous that women are being deleted or banned for breaking rules they weren't aware of.

OrchidInTheSun · 26/10/2019 13:13

I think I broke this rule:

  1. We don’t allow posts which are derogatory or aggressive towards trans people. We believe there are ways to express both opinion and facts without crossing this line.

Obviously derogatory can be interpreted quite broadly. It does seem as if there is a bit of a concerted effort of late by the monitors to pick off individuals.

But at the same time, I am also mindful of:
"We strongly believe, however, that those abiding by the spirit of constructive and civilised discussion will not be at risk of being banned for any length of time."

and

"We’ll also be taking a dim view of the continual and persistent reporting of posts that don’t break our guidelines, as each of these need to be investigated, which is a huge waste of the mod team's time and energy. Anyone who repeatedly reports similar types of posts that aren’t worthy of deletion – ie simply to be vexatious – will be suspended."

It is a balancing act but we know that some people who have repeatedly reported users have been suspended and subsequently banned so I remain optimistic.

As I said, the fact that this forum continues at all absolutely makes some people froth furiously. For that reason, I am determined to stay on the right side of the rules because if they pick us off one by one, they've won :)

ErrolTheDragon · 26/10/2019 13:30

Suspending vexatious reporters is good - but as we know, some will re-register, and afaik MN will consider twitter reports by non-members. So it may in practice be quite hard for mods to spot serial vexatious reporters.

WrathofSIxFootSIxElfKlop · 26/10/2019 13:42

Must be a nightmare to moderate when there is a complaint.

One has to nip dissent in the bud.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 26/10/2019 13:56

That's crap, OrchidInTheSun. 14 years and now in a week you've had enough deletions to be banned if they decide you've transgressed again. I would hate to lose you.

The guidelines say: We’ll be introducing a three strikes system whereby users deleted more than three times in any rolling six week period will have their membership automatically suspended and we’ll then take a view as to whether they will have membership reinstated.

To move from this to a permanent ban of longstanding members for three strikes is a significant acceleration of the guidelines. MNHQ needs to clarify their expectations.

GirlDownUnder · 26/10/2019 14:04

To move from this to a permanent ban of longstanding members for three strikes is a significant acceleration of the guidelines. MNHQ needs to clarify their expectations.

Specially as they still allow reports from non-members. I think I’m on 2 strikes maybe? but it’s hard to tell, and means that I’m not posting much while I wait for a clear 6 weeks.

But for posters who’ve been long term, solid contributors to this site like OrchidInTheSun is really poor.

nauticant · 26/10/2019 15:16

It looks like there are many of us who have an untroubled posting history who've picked up 2 or 3 strikes in the past week or so.

Something has changed.

HandsOffMyRights · 26/10/2019 16:16

Nauticant, that's me too. I've been here 14 years, contributed to so many discussions, offered advice, been a blogger, reviewed products. Defended women's rights and questioned those who seek to abuse child safeguarding.

What do those posters who are simply aiming to pick us off Twitter style contribute? Do they (remotely) hold the hand of a woman who's been abused? Do they recommend what to do if your baby's writhing in agony and malnourised through severe acid reflux? Do they provide careers advice to the woman who's looking to take that next jump, but has been unfairly overlooked for promotion in favour of her less able male counterparts?

And in the current climate we are expected to tiptoe around issues affecting women and children and banned when some aggrieved male decides he's triggered by women discussing our fears and concerns over what this landscape means for our rights and safety - along with child protection?

HandsOffMyRights · 26/10/2019 16:20

And @MNHQ you are not emailing us to inform us. Why not? What's changed and why haven't you told us?

StopThePlanet · 26/10/2019 16:29

littlbrowndog

Welcome back - missed you!!!! Flowers

Reading threads just wasn't the same without your brand of sharp wit. 🤗

nauticant · 26/10/2019 16:51

I'm reasonably sure they're emailing us about strikes HandsOffMyRights. That's not the problem.

The problem is that since the Flora business they're handing out strikes to order.

Something has changed

This past week or so has changed.
Odd.

BarbaraStrozzi · 26/10/2019 17:10

I suspect there's two things going on. One is, having stood up for freedom of speech re. Flora and Upfield, MNHQ are under a lot of pressure to prove that they're being "even-handed" in handing out warnings, and also to prove that they're "tolerating free speech but not transphobia", so they're possibly a bit more hair-trigger than usual (and I suspect that behind the scenes the mods are undoubtedly under a huge amount of pressure - and no matter how pissed off I sometimes feel, I remain hugely grateful that they allow public discussion rather than simply banning anyone who mentions biology or even quotes from Hansard, as Twitter does. And yes, I have had a deletion, possibly two, even though I generally work very hard to stay within talk guidelines, and for the most part successfully - I could count the number of deletions I've had on here in the course of over a decade on the fingers of one hand, I think. NB, current account is relatively recent due to de-regging and re-regging following Jeffrey-gate, in case anyone is suspicious - all above board, not a PBP.)

The other thing is there have been some prominent issues hit the press this week - the BTL response in newspapers/Piers Morgan's widely supported Twitter thread on McK, the LGB Alliance setting up, Yaniv losing the court case. So I think there are some very, very angry people out there, and it may simply be that the volume of reports has increased exponentially as those very very angry people lash out in rage in the only way they can.

BadgertheBodger · 26/10/2019 17:23

I’m really grateful to be allowed to have this conversation at all but I’ve had a deletion on the NSPCC thread and I’ve not had an email. I think I’ve had one strike, ever, because I lost my shit over MB and the NSPCC. On reflection, that was probably a fair one as it was too personal. This one though? No idea. I would really really like @MNHQ to just tell us if something is wrong, then we know not to repeat the mistake. It’s so unbelievably frustrating to try and abide by rules which aren’t clear. I am NT but I can well imagine this creates an extra layer of difficulty for neuro a-typical posters.

realitycalling · 26/10/2019 17:33

A wise post BarbaraStrozzi
MNHQ must be on the receiving end of a massive campaign from the usual suspects. As the whole issue has hit mainstream in a major way with the general public reacting with outrage at the situation in women's sport, children and schools, Yaniv etc posters on here become collateral damage.
Thank you MNHQ for standing firm.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 26/10/2019 17:37

I agree with barbara

Matereality · 26/10/2019 17:44

Badger did you message the mods to ask for clarification? It might be worth doing if not.

I had a deletion this week on the drag queen story time thread. Did get an email, asked them to clarify which rule I broke, it was reviewed and the message was reinstated. In the context of the thread it was OK. Maybe somebody reported the post and it was reviewed out of context? I was genuinely confused.

At least one autistic poster has expressed that the current rules are especially difficult to navigate.

I'm sure that the mods have been under huge pressure this week. Tides turning.

TheNaughtyStep · 26/10/2019 18:18

Specially as they still allow reports from non-members.

I didn't know this and frankly think it's unacceptable.

OrchidInTheSun · 26/10/2019 18:26

Yes, I definitely think there are some very angry people who will be exerting huge pressure on MN and its advertisers.

I have had posts deleted but I think I've only had one strike before last week. There are other places where I can talk about penises with impunity so I shall do that and use FWR as a place to draw women's attention to current issues and MN to support women who are struggling with newborns, shitty husbands, miscarriage and children with additional needs like I always have.

And doing that while sticking up the Vs at the creepy monitors who clearly need to get out more.

nauticant · 26/10/2019 18:27

Like other posters have said I'm also very grateful to @MNHQ for providing a place on the Internet where we can discuss these important issues.

Flowers to the mods. This must be one of those times when their work is particularly awkward with many being displeased no matter what the mods do.
