Should transgender women be allowed to play women's sports?

Well, obviously we have pretty much one set of views on that, but this video from the US shows both sets of views, and intelligence wise I know which side I am supporting.

why do you all care so much may I ask?

Why do you not? Do you not care about women's sports?

MIdgebabe · 17/10/2019 17:03

Let me remember why we have women's sports. It's to enables women's full participation , because if sports is not sex segregated, women don't join in

Ah I said sex segregated because it's the sex differences that matter.

So that's a no from me

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/10/2019 17:05

Really? You're surprised that women care about the rights, equality and best interests of women?

Should a stronger, faster, male-bodied person be allowed to compete against typically comparably weaker, slower females? Of course not. That would be cheating. They may feel they are "female" in their heads, but their bodies are very much male and all that entails.

EverylittleAlps · 17/10/2019 17:07

Wouldn't it do a lot more for the trans cause if a trans woman beat male athletes at elite sport?

ErrolTheDragon · 17/10/2019 17:11

Uh... this is the board known as FWR - 'feminism and women's rights'. Which covers girls' rights too. It would be bizarre if we didn't care about women and girls being disadvantaged and in some cases physically endangered by allowing males to compete with them.

My question is: why don't you care so much?

Why don't you care that it's unfair to girls and women who have trained hard to achieve places on sports teams and podiums to have to cede those places to boys and men who already have teams and podiums of their own?

Why don't you care that in contact sports it's dangerous for bigger, stronger males to directly compete with females ?

Why don't you care that, taken to its logical conclusion, allowing males to participate in female sports means the end of female sports?

This is a feminism forum - we fight for women's rights. The right not to be erased from our own sports is amongst those.

How can any woman or man NOT care?

DryHeave · 17/10/2019 17:18

“Destabilitating the fairness”

AdultHumanCat · 17/10/2019 17:19

I assume 'transgender woman' is a man who believes they are a woman (a transwoman), rather than the other way round. I still have no idea how someone comes to the conclusion they are the opposite sex when apparently there is no quantative, or even qualitative measure of actually being a particular sex... But I digress.

Why should transwomen compete in women's sports?

Transwomen are not women. It's not difficult.

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/10/2019 17:20

Isn't it funny that all these questions in this thread, taken to their logical conclusion, boil down to the answer of:

'Because men are more intrinsically important in society and what they want should be provided to them, while women's primary purpose is not to seek beyond being useful to men.'

Believe me I say this nicely and politely, but seriously. Fuck that.

I take my cousin out two days a month. He is 42 and has the capacity of roughly 4 years of age. I take him to aquariums or the park, I buy him things a 4 year old would enjoy and we spend a lot of time doing the jigsaws with the really big pieces.

I do not take him to soft play, or to the toddler playground. I'm sure he would love it, but he has the body of an adult man and it would be bloody dangerous for any preschoolers in there.

Using people's preferred pronouns is fine with me, but the lines between biological sex and gender should be observed to keep the more vulnerable sex safe.

Carriemac · 17/10/2019 17:26

No, of course not.

HorseWithNoFucksToGive · 17/10/2019 17:26

Caring people care. Clue's in the name.

Answered your question, now would you please answer mine:

Why do you NOT care?

(...and if you're in the mood, would you care to define the word woman - and here's the hard bit - without using the word "woman"? I won't hold my breath.)

SirVixofVixHall · 17/10/2019 17:27

No, of course not. As ridiculously and unfair as allowing adults to compete in a primary school sports day.

OkayGo · 17/10/2019 17:33

Absolutely not

SimplyTheWorst · 17/10/2019 17:34

why do you all care so much may I ask?

Because we are women; ie: the female sex. Some of our number enjoy participating in and competing in sport. Therefore women's sport needs to exclude all the male sex in all its forms to deliver as fair a competition as possible.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/10/2019 17:37

Because we are women; ie: the female sex.

The OP isn't - he's a bloke who is into a sport and who understands and rejects unfairness when he sees it. (As do most blokes, IME)

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 17/10/2019 17:41

No transwomen should not play in women's sports teams.

No more than an adult could play in an under 18 team, a heavy weight boxer could claim victory over a bantam weight, or an able bodied person could claim a win at the paralympics.

Jaxhog · 17/10/2019 17:47

No!

SimplyTheWorst · 17/10/2019 17:52

ErrolTheDragon Yes, I should have been clearer that I was referring to the majority of respondents here. Smile

Jaxhog · 17/10/2019 17:53

Women aren't men with low testosterone.
That is the point really.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 17/10/2019 17:55

Andy. I don't need to watch a video to know that males should not be competing in women's sports regardless of how those males identify.

Mitebiteatnite · 17/10/2019 17:56

Short answer-No

Long answer-Fuck no
