Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

Aren’t those products basically margarine identifying as butter?

At least they no longer contain Trans Fats.

This is all getting ridiculous. The people who insult trans people in RL are men. The people who make Trans people feel unsafe in toilets are men. No one on MN that I have ever seen thinks that Trans people should be reviled or insulted for living their lives as Trans. But is it any wonder that women do
Not want to be silenced when wishing to defend sex-based rights alongside the recognition that Trans people deserve to live free if harassment like everyone else?

“Enjoy your erasure, women!”
Remember that tweet from a TRA?

Well advertise where you like, poncy Marge co: but you might find that many of your supermarket shopping target market are MNers.

Oh well. Smile

MonstranceClock · 11/10/2019 17:16

I’m not attaching anything. I’m just stating that those views are on here, quite often. And that a lot of boards, not just feminism, have become an echo chamber. If you post something differing from the “set” view, no one actually wants to discuss it with you, they just shit all over you.

Dangerfloof · 11/10/2019 17:16

Tbh I’m not sure why any business would want to associate themselves with mumsnet. This place is full of bigots, disablists, racists and trans phones. Makes perfect business sense
So the 13 or so million trans people will go right out and buy this stuff? No loss of revenue then eh?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/10/2019 17:16

I still remember the tv ad. I remember a woman in a green goddess type leotard commenting on ‘Flora - the margarine for men’. I remember Mum saying that tasted like candle wax.

Glinner · 11/10/2019 17:17

Indeed

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 11/10/2019 17:17

saying that tasted like candle wax

YES!!!

That's it
That's the taste!!

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2019 17:18

Trans fats are fuelling the obesity crisis, palm oil is contributing to massive deforestation and reducing the natural habitat for protected species- what excellent "values" are these that they have?

MsMcWibble · 11/10/2019 17:18

I just wish that one of these people who defame mumsnet and its users actually tried to back up their claims.
But they can't, so they have to try to shut us up.

TiredofthisBS · 11/10/2019 17:19

@MonstranceClock can you provide proof of your claims? If you make such serious allegations then surely you can provide the evidence to us of exactly what you have seen.

MissLawls · 11/10/2019 17:19

Does anyone use marg in their baking? I've been using butter forever. May seem an extravagance but I've no need for marg. Butter is a natural product and, as with good quality chocolate, ie the real thing, you use less of it. Less is more; buy cheap buy twice.

Thanks for the tip upthread re mayonnaise. Great idea.

Saucery · 11/10/2019 17:19

We never had margarine growing up. Butter and lard all the way.
These days I want something that spreads, but doesn’t spread misinformation about biological fact.

Notahandmaid · 11/10/2019 17:20

Dammit! I have been buying Flora products because some are vegan and I'm doing my best to eat vegan wherever possible. What to have now? I've seen a post on Facebook that said that margerine was basically rubbish and naively I had no idea.

Any suggestions for good dairy free alternatives? Flora won't be on our shopping list from now on following this announcement.

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2019 17:20

This person sounds like a disgruntled poster who had their arse handed to them a few times.

Datun · 11/10/2019 17:21

If you post something differing from the “set” view, no one actually wants to discuss it with you, they just shit all over you.

What all of them? Really?

Perhaps it's time to reflect that if, out of 12 million unique users per month, you are finding the majority hold a different viewpoint to you, that the problem might be you, not them.

Dangerfloof · 11/10/2019 17:22

Y'know it's a choice to be on here right. No ones holding a gun to your head. Theres a whole humongous internet out there

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/10/2019 17:22

We use mostly butter but also have Pure olive oil spread, which does include palm oil, but they say it's from a sustainable source. (TBF, so does Upfield.) I don't know how credible any of these claims are. It's dairy free and I think gluten free.

MonstranceClock · 11/10/2019 17:22

@TiredofthisBS you know full well that those sort of posts are deleted so how can I? Go on any thread about black people, Meghan Markle, gollywogs etc for racism. Any thread about autism, disable spaces ect for disablism. I’ve seen posts about trans people being compared with animals, rapists, paedophiles etc.

TiredofthisBS · 11/10/2019 17:24

@MonstranceClock so you can't provide any evidence then? Your answer is a complete cop out.

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 11/10/2019 17:24

@MonstranceClock I'm genuinely really pleased (if a tad surprised!) that you and I agree on those things. Smile

I can't honestly say that I have seen any of the things that you've mentioned that have been allowed to stand. I have seen one or two transphobic posts that have been deleted. It seems the nature of a forum that there will always be posts that are off, and which get moderated as soon as the mods come across/ are alerted to them.

What type of posts do you think are being posted that are racist or disabling?

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 11/10/2019 17:24

Disabist*

JellySlice · 11/10/2019 17:25

They spent years trying to persuade us trans was good but eventually had to give up and erase trans from their products as they couldn’t get round the fact that trans is bad for us and women were just not going to buy it.

GrinGrinGrinStar

MrsJamin · 11/10/2019 17:25

@MonstranceClock Why are you on mumsnet then? If we are all bigots, racists, disablists?

TheAlternativeTentacle · 11/10/2019 17:26

I’ve seen posts about trans people being compared with animals, rapists, paedophiles etc.

Some trans people are rapists of course, and some have have posted about fucking kids; and have been racist themselves;

But you are saying that we aren't allowed to mention it? Why is that?

Saucery · 11/10/2019 17:26

Some trans women are rapists and peadophiles, in the same percentage as the general male population, I believe?
Doesn’t mean they all are of course, that would be a silly claim, but where a male bodied person identifying as a woman has committed rape or assault then it’s ok to point that out. Completely different to racism or disablism if it y’know.....happened.

Michelleoftheresistance · 11/10/2019 17:26

Oh bollocks have you, don't be silly. What you mean is you've read what you wanted to read out of a post that wasn't saying that at all.

The only post I've seen in years even approaching that was posted by a TRA seeking screenshots who wasn't able to find anything scandalous actually here, evidenced by the fact they posted it themselves seconds later on Twitter. It was deleted by HQ within about ten minutes.

And no doubt now we'll get the wails about 'not accepting alternate views', which basically means being disagreed with (with evidence, facts, links) is interpreted as attack and causes a flounce.
