Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

@Notahandmaid have you tried refrigerating a pot of olive oil? It goes solid enough to be used as a spread.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/10/2019 17:27

Mumsnet should sue.

To whoever said this I actually agree. Mimmymum and that advertising company have publically slandered MN. Very happy to contribute to a crowdfund - determining whether or not MN is a transphobic hate site would make a fascinating case.

I suspect they will just ditch FWR though.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/10/2019 17:28

Of course that should have been libelled, not slandered. Wheres a flying lawyer when you need one...

JoyceJeffries · 11/10/2019 17:28

I would boycott but I only eat real butter.

MonstranceClock · 11/10/2019 17:28

Where have I said that everyone is those things? I said those views are on here, and I know if I ran a business I just don’t think it’s smart to be associated with something that houses those views.

@Coffeeandchocolate9 yeah I do share a lot of opinions with you guys on here, I guess in the context of my first post that seems surprising to you! (English isn’t my first language, and I’m not as eloquent as I like to think I am.)

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/10/2019 17:29

@TiredofthisBS you know full well that those sort of posts are deleted so how can I? Go on any thread about black people, Meghan Markle, gollywogs etc for racism.

And here you demonstrate that Mumsnet does NOT provide a platform for such views.

Thanks!

JellySlice · 11/10/2019 17:29

Mayonnaise in cakes: literally just replace the butter in any all-in-one recipe with the same weight of mayo.

Personally, I think it's best in rich-tasting cakes like chocolate cake. Dd loves it in plain vanilla sponge, too, but I prefer butter or oil (2/3 the weight of butter, precision is not important) for a vanilla sponge.

Mayo in buttercream? Not tried it....hmmm....

HumberElla · 11/10/2019 17:31

So Flora pay MN handsomely for branding, do two product tests with MN and a shed load of advertising in September. Kerching.

Then contract ends. MN remains ambivalent re Flora.

Flora then jumps on a woke bandwagon after being targeted by TRAs to get free twitter points. Pretends end of contract is related to values.

MN continues to not favour Flora and now actively boycotts brand.

Let’s hope TRAs like eating lots of margarine.

For pastry, try using dripping. Makes the best pastry.

Artesia · 11/10/2019 17:31

* you know full well that those sort of posts are deleted so how can I?*

@monstranceclock- if Mumsnet HQ don’t tolerate transphobic, homophobic, disablist, racist posts, and delete them immediately, why should companies not want to be associated with the site then?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/10/2019 17:31

I assume you boycott Facebook and Twitter, then, Monstrance, as they both allow far worse utterances to remain posted even when other users report them. Mumsnet is not pre-moderated so anybody can register and say anything, but it's unusual in taking moderation so seriously. Twitter moderation is an absolute joke.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 11/10/2019 17:32

Mayonnaise in cakes: literally just replace the butter in any all-in-one recipe with the same weight of mayo.

how does that work?

Doesn't the extra egg and Mayonnaise based stuff affect the taste?

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/10/2019 17:33

you know full well that those sort of posts are deleted so how can I?

Re-posting for the joy of seeing the FACT that Mumsnet is - in fact - much harder on such things than Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Now - what could be the reason for TRAs targeting us...?

MonstranceClock · 11/10/2019 17:34

I don’t boycott anything because I genuinely don’t give a fuck. I was just pointed out that I think it makes sense why a business would do that.

Datun · 11/10/2019 17:34

@TiredofthisBS you know full well that those sort of posts are deleted so how can I? Go on any thread about black people, Meghan Markle, gollywogs etc for racism.

Good Lord. This is a public forum with 12 to 14 million unique users per month.

Of course you're going to get a range of viewpoints. But if they are racist or transphobic, mumsnet delete them.

The site is self moderated. So it is mumsnet's own members who are disallowing transphobia.

Your claims are completely illogical.

Trewser · 11/10/2019 17:35

I was just pointed out that I think it makes sense why a business would do that

Really? It doesn't make any sense at all though!

Notahandmaid · 11/10/2019 17:35

@Coffeeandchocolate9 No, not heard of that. Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a go.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 11/10/2019 17:36

I shall happily add them to the list of things not to buy from Waitrose online (having maintained my boycott of Ocado).

And since I do the shopping, that guarantees none of them will be purchased.

I am happy to continue to sully the good name of Lurpak until told otherwise.

TiredofthisBS · 11/10/2019 17:36

Unsurprisingly I'm still waiting for evidence. It's almost as if there is none. Hmmm

MonstranceClock · 11/10/2019 17:37

You clearly don’t read much of the other boards then If you genuinely haven’t seen any of those views. Lucky you!

JellySlice · 11/10/2019 17:37

Here's another Flora-free cake:

3 cups self raising flour
1.5 cups sugar (can use more if you like your cake very sweet)
1 cup sunflower oil
1 cup plain yogurt
6 eggs
1tsp vanilla

Mix it all up and bake in a large cake tin (greased/lined/whatever) at 180C Gas 4 for 50-60 mins.

You can make it dairy free by using soya yogurt.

Fieldofgreycorn · 11/10/2019 17:38

All the varieties of "spread" are nasty. They're just so fake. Give me real butter any day, I can always tell the real thing.
Funny, I can see a parallel here....

Nasty
Fake
Parallel

Whatever could you mean CigarsofthePharoahs?

There’s certainly no unpleasantness about trans people here.

JellySlice · 11/10/2019 17:40

Doesn't the extra egg and Mayonnaise based stuff affect the taste?

The flavour really complements chocolate. You cannot taste the mayo as mayo.

I can taste the mayo in a vanilla sponge, but it's not unpleasant. My dc actually prefer vanilla sponge made with mayo to one made with butter.

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/10/2019 17:41

You clearly don’t read much of the other boards then If you genuinely haven’t seen any of those views.

You mean, those views that you couldn't give us evidence of because Mumsnet deleted them?

Find a platform that doesn't attract people posting unpleasantness. Twitter is astonishing for it - they allow paedophiles, TRAs posting violent threats against women, racists, homophobes.

But strangely, Mumsnet - which you admit deletes offensive posts - is the platform singled out for action.

Now - WHY might that be?
