Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

You are right. That irritated me so much that they got a rant from me.

How dare they judge what I post. Since when were slimy spread manufacturers upholders of public morals and truths.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 13:16

The "plant goodness" bit...mandrake is a plant and that can kill you. Plant does not automatically equal healthy.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 13:18

Has anyone taken a screenshot of that message and reposted it? They deserve maximum public embarrassment for that imo.

littlbrowndog · 14/10/2019 13:23

When did some manky marg makers get to tell women where they should post and what they should talk about

Do one manky marg makers

TheChampagneGalop · 14/10/2019 13:23

Imagine the toxic fatberg that will be created by all these binned Flora remains. Shock

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 13:26

Does it even decompose?

lottiegarbanzo · 14/10/2019 13:35

Oh hang on, surely: 'Flora: the margarine for well-moderated mums and militant misogynists'.

Tha alliteration keeps on giving!

RoyalCorgi · 14/10/2019 13:39

It is a bit of a PR disaster, isn't it? Looking at it just from the commercial viewpoint, they have to weigh up the business from people who think "Well done, Flora, for clamping down on those damn transphobic mums, I'll be buying Flora from now on" against those who think "I support free speech, I'm never buying Flora again." You don't have to be a genius to see that camp B is bigger than camp A.

Also, I think it will be good for Mumsnet, because I'm pretty sure that every time it's in the news for something like this, it brings people to the site.

SisterWendyBuckett · 14/10/2019 13:40

Yeah Do one manky marg makers

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 14/10/2019 13:41

every time it's in the news for something like this, it brings people to the site.

It won't effect flora in any real way, but you are exactly right, it will bring more people here.

SunsetBeetch · 14/10/2019 14:29

^^ Sorry, half my post disappeared there. Someone has written rap for us (more verses available in the twitter thread).

WatcherOfTheNight · 14/10/2019 14:33

Seems a lot has happened since I took a break Grin

I have just sent them a message to say I won't be buying their product, and the web site flashes up a statement, which doesn't mention mumsnet, but is obvs about this. Saying we support mums, but we think more can be done in moderating to prevent discriminatory posts.

And as for the moderate comment,do they think we are to be treated like children? Do we need watching 24/7?
How very dare they !!

youllhavehadyourtea · 14/10/2019 14:38

It's in teeny tiny type, almost like they're a bit ashamed......

I got my answer on Facebook.
The utterly hypocritical wankers.

People freely misgender and openly mock transgender people on Facebook. Clearly that's not a problem for Upfield though.

I know it's petty but I took great delight in accidentally placing a tray of butter on top of the Stork today in Sainsburys. I know TRAs. Disgraceful. Guerilla mumsnetting 🖕

more can be done in moderating to prevent discriminatory posts

Even if one were to agree with them on the definition of a discriminatory post (I don't) there's really no way MNHQ could prevent objectionable posts from being made unless every single comment was pre-moderated. Which leads me to wonder if the people running Flora's social media accounts even know how to internet.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 14/10/2019 14:40

The one I got said we support mums and we also respect diversity or some such bollocks.

Still boycotting for the orang-utans chez nous.

mcduffy · 14/10/2019 14:40

If you go to the Flora complaints page you get this on the mobile site.

mcduffy · 14/10/2019 14:40

Sorry, cross post Blush

AbsintheFriends · 14/10/2019 14:58

Anyone care to shoot down the 'brand for everyone' bollocks with a link to their 'margarine for men' branding history?

Needmoresleep · 14/10/2019 14:59

Im sure the first version of the thing that popped up on their website had the about moderating discriminatory posts, then nothing popped up. Now the wording is milder. They must have realised that they came across as partronising misogynists.

Thank goodness their product is crap. And I am not using Trainline again either.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 15:00

Advertising in which the little women goes into the shop alone and is instructed on what to buy by her hubby through the window, but she's a bit thick so needs a male stranger to spell it out for her...that's supportive of mothers, is it?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 15:02

I wonder if the changing messages reflect the grownups having now arrived at work and noticed what the social media team were up to over the weekend.

Ereshkigal · 14/10/2019 15:17

Good point. They have posted guidelines, they delete posts (and err on the side of caution doing this). What else exactly should they do? Do spell it out, Upfield.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 15:29

I mean, we all know that what they mean is that MN should shut down the feminist forum. But even Upfield realize that saying that wouldn't exactly scream "we totally support women we do".
