Online if you want to take it. You translate the drag phrase.
How nice to see that those putting it together didn't think that "fishy" meaning a very feminine drag queen may be offensive....

It's completely fine that you don't like drag that's not what I was trying to say, to be completely honest it was mainly the replies underneath your own. It's a word in a quiz that was made for fun for some people to immediately jump in with how they find drag offensive just because of one simple correlation really didn't sit right with me

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 03/10/2019 18:01

(My phone is very slow so my last post skipped a few posts...)

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 03/10/2019 18:32

I dont know why I thought I could bring sense to a bunch of women who view the smell of their own genitals more important than the fact that while sexism IS an issue, so is homophobia.

Becca love, if your genitals smell of fish go see a doctor, that isn't normal.

Mine don't, nor do any other healthy woman's, which is why it is so very, very misogynistic to use the word 'fishy' about women.

FWRLurker · 03/10/2019 19:06

Women are subject to mysoginy

Gay men are subject to homophobia

It’s not ok for women to use homophobic language even though they are oppressed

It’s not ok for gay men to use misogynistic language even though they are oppressed

Fishy is 100% misogynistic. It refers to supposedly the “gross & fishy” smell of the female genitalia. It is equivalent to going on and on about the supposed grossness of gay men’s rear ends (something that straight male homophobes can’t seem to stop talking). Hmm

Still I like Ru Paul. He knows gender is just a show and mostly garbage to be made fun of. And for that I respect him.

HermioneWeasley · 03/10/2019 19:25

I’ve complained to the BBC - they wouldn’t allow this kind of slur for any other group

OneOfOurOwn · 03/10/2019 19:35

Where is the quiz?

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/10/2019 19:36

while sexism IS an issue, so is homophobia.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand any guess at how many MNetters on the FWR board are homosexual?

Being homosexual doesn't cancel out misogyny, it really doesn't. Coming from a community with a history of struggle against oppression also doesn't issue a free card to be misogynistic and oppress women. (How much of that struggle have you actually experienced personally?)

Btw, name calling to try and shut down a discussion went out with David Cameron and everyone believing Fererro Rocher really was something served at diplomatic service parties.

Davros · 03/10/2019 19:46

I thought "fish" to describe a woman in Polari had been dropped by the gay community so I'm surprised to see it surface. My gay drag queen bff won't use it anymore and he's also bff with one of the Rupaul contestants. I'll have to quiz him on whether it's been dropped generally, just in the UK or other

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 03/10/2019 19:57

No! Nothing to see here!

Women's cunts smell like fish. Totally progressive. How dare you be offended? Yadda yadda yadda yadda. Oppression Olympics - women fail to qualify. Good job too, they'd only stink up the podium the fucking fishy cunts.

Sittinonthefloor · 03/10/2019 20:10

I don’t understand how any woman can think drag is ok. (Apart from Dame Edna, who is now more sensible than most of our elected politicians - is she even drag or just a character whose actor happens to be a man?) It mocks women. Some people say it celebrates women - but it only celebrates a pornstar / bitch version. Is it homophobic to dislike drag - I don’t think all drag performers are gay? There’s a world of difference between a camp man (a disappearing group of people) like Julian clary and a drag queen. I see no difference between most drag queens and blackface. Angry

TulipsTulipsTulips · 03/10/2019 20:14

I lodged an online complaint to the BBC

endofthelinefinally · 03/10/2019 20:19

It's horrible.
I immediately thought of the comparison with black face.
Really uncomfortable to watch the trailers. I won't be watching the programme.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 03/10/2019 20:20

It's a really offensive and demeaning word in a quiz that was made for fun but is actually offensive and demeaning because of the offensive and demeaning word

GrimDamnFanjo · 03/10/2019 20:55

The quiz is here:

Nottheduchess · 03/10/2019 21:15

But they aren’t trying to be women, they know women don’t dress like that really, they are being drag women. Honestly. I can’t get offended at everything. Not even a little teeny bit of that gets me offended. Is it just the fish term that has triggered you? My vagina doesn’t smell of fish so who gives a shit. Honestly women, I know the term snowflake gets thrown about too much but if the shoe fits....

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 03/10/2019 21:21

No one is triggered. No one is a snowflake. We don't like men saying women smell like fish because women's cunts smell like fish. That is entirely reasonable. Obviously. Hmm

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/10/2019 21:21

It is not ‘being a snowflake’ to object to misogyny.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 03/10/2019 21:23

And the OP refers specifically to the word fishy. So this thread is about that. That is what you're defending. Calling women, all women - your mum, your gran - fish because their cunts smell like fish.

Nottheduchess · 03/10/2019 21:28

But they don’t smell like fish. I do object to the word cunt.

Nottheduchess · 03/10/2019 21:28

Honestly.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/10/2019 21:33

They don’t smell fishy, no - but referring to women as ‘fishy’ suggests that they do - which is why it is a misogynist insult.

Justhadathought · 03/10/2019 21:42

a bunch of women who view the smell of their own genitals more important

This has to be a parody, surely?

Justhadathought · 03/10/2019 21:43

Being a woman doesn't make you exempt from also being close minded, you can't just say one groups oppression doesn't matter because at one point in time you would've been oppressed similarly

Becca; you are not even making any rational sense. This is just a load of word salad.

Justhadathought · 03/10/2019 21:47

but grotesque exaggerated caricatures of women

Not quite true. Grotesque caricatures of female stereotypes...more like it.How is this any different, though, to 'black face' and shows such as the Black & White Minstrels? Genuine question.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 03/10/2019 21:47

I do object to the word cunt.

Take it up with the Vikings.
