Sheffield strip club keeps licence despite opposition by feminist coalition

From the way the Guardian reports it (but does anyone think their reporting is unbiased) the undercover filming that campaigners organised has worked against them.

I think the licence will be reviewer again in a year. Have a horrible feeling that if it hadn't been "feminists" campaigning but "local" people the council would have acted differently. The patriarchy likes to be seen to slapping down uppity women.

They didn't even value the opinion of the local Rape Crisis Centre which works nearby. Sad

And we're bound get the punter to whom the girls are always terribly grateful, as he treats them like a princess.

LangCleg · 19/09/2019 17:14

Still here, Roses?

Remind me: did I, or did I not, ever think workplace CCTV was a good idea? Yes? Or no? Clarification you've understood that I did not, please.

"it's the woman's choice" is always used to try and cover the fact that choosing it as a job wouldn't exist if the sexual wants of men were not seen as important as oxygen or food and water.

This.

How come no one ever gets into a frothy outrage at men being 'denied the choice' to be a pole dancer or a grid boy or work as a waiter in a sleazy strip club or do webcam work?

What about the poor blokes having that choice taken away from them?

TheAlternativeTentacle · 19/09/2019 17:17

Datun, did you mean Cunt in a strip club - come on now, fess up.

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 17:17

men were being allowed to do whatever they wanted
Yes, and I agree with they shouldn't be allowed to grope people unwanted.

And yet you have repeatedly said on this thread that the problem here is the whistleblowers
The MANNER of the whistleblowers, not the whistleblowers themselves - I agree that there needs to be a way to regulate, but members of the public taking it upon themselves to film naked women is not the way to go about it.
So what do you do about it then?
As nobody's given a solution.
Apart from one that was posed but turned out to be some kind of gotcha going by replies.
What would be a genuine solution?

Trewser · 19/09/2019 17:18

What would be a genuine solution?

Ban strip clubs.

MsMelanie · 19/09/2019 17:18

The kind of feminism that dictates. That doesn’t actually listen to those there by choice. Time and again you are told by women in the sex industry - the sex workers that they do not wish to be saved by you. Go and save people that do. Simple.

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 19/09/2019 17:19

Hi Datun,
Honestly? From years of reading you and Bertrand patiently and repetitively and articulately explaining to both lurkers and ploppers how damaging gender stereotypes are.

And I suppose because also the dynamic and indeed people are not that black and white. People are capable of having their minds changed, of thinking something purely because they haven't dissected it.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 17:19

It's derogatory, rude and untrue!

oh, so the women at Spearmint Rhino didn't get their tits out?

well I don't know why roses & co are so upset about them being filmed now

unless they were commando bottom half and fully clothed on top? seems a little recherche but maybe things have changed in Sheffield since I was last there

BarbaraStrozzi · 19/09/2019 17:20

Can I just say that mentioning, on an online forum where anonymity is valued, that you've met someone in RL, and are disappointed to be disagreeing with them is... more than a bit fucking creepy?

Given that women get doxxed, any sort of comment of this sort comes across to me as bloody threatening.

LangCleg · 19/09/2019 17:20

Apart from one that was posed but turned out to be some kind of gotcha going by replies.

Are you still suggesting that Datun and I are the same person or are somehow in cahoots to give you childish gotchas rather than admit you got your posters muddled up and were rude for no reason?

Please be specific. Yes or no?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 17:22

If the next message is something about meeting someone's kids I will sadly not be surprised. What even are boundaries?

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 19/09/2019 17:23

Bernard, I'm sure you can appreciate the tone with which you said get their tits out but also because as I and many other women who have worked in these clubs tell you, that is literally the least of it.

So when you say the job is "just to get their tits out" it's being disingenuous. You've been told on numerous occasions that the job is far more about athletics and sales.

I just think it's rude and dismissive. But then again I'm used to being dismissed. (Sigh)

While these clubs exist women will still be treated as objects and judged for their looks and sexual attractiveness. I hate this whole culture its horrid.

As I said then - taking away all women's right to choose what to do for themselves. Can't think for themselves.

Well said

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 19/09/2019 17:28

And I've been doxxed too, so I totally get the fear!!! Huge apologies again

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 17:29

You've been told on numerous occasions that the job is far more about athletics and sales.

Mmm, it’s about athletics and sales and getting your tits out

Other wise it’s gymnastics or cirque de soliel, as previously discussed

Let’s at least be honest about the point of strip Clubs shall we?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 17:29

Did you approach Datun and introduce yourself as a radfem who wants to open a strip club focused on reeducating punters? I'm curious what she's meant to remember.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 17:30

But then again I’m used to people missing the point on the internet (sigh)

Somerville · 19/09/2019 17:30

So when you say the job is "just to get their tits out" it's being disingenuous. You've been told on numerous occasions that the job is far more about athletics and sales.

What is the problem then with being filmed by a whistleblower?
We’re back round to Lang Cleg’s A or B scenario.
Since the only women I’ve known who have done some stripping have been addicts (in one case) or traumatised victims of CSA (in the others) then I don’t think we’ll ever agree on the answer.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 17:31

I see maybe 2 or 3 occasions here, so would be interested to know if Bernard recalls previous occasions on which someone who knows Datun told her those things.

Melroses · 19/09/2019 17:31

So when you say the job is "just to get their tits out" it's being disingenuous. You've been told on numerous occasions that the job is far more about athletics and sales.

If the job was primarily about athletics and sales, the job would be done tits in. However, this is not the case. So tits out is probably at least on par with athletics and sales, if not more important.
