I really hope the outcome is fair to women and upholds free speech.

I'm a light browser and don't post but I'm wondering if this thread isn't better off in AIBU, like those "AIBU my best friend announced her engagement at my wedding" type posts. I'm bewildered why someone would launch a crowdfunder at exactly the same time as another woman walks into court for the first time in her action that's been going on a year while theirs is all of five days old. Surely everyone knows that increased prominence/press coverage is when the money comes in so to put your cause slap back in the middle of it seems really... well, unfair on Kate. Few people would have the money to give to both so to split the funds between two at exactly the same time like this seems rather odd. The new one could easily have waited and given Kate her moment. Especially when you start off stating upfront you can afford to pay for representation yourself as you did everything guaranteed to ensure you'd need it.

It's not true that the pockets just expand to accommodate all the hands dipping in. The more hands, the less money and now there are four women and one man all looking for help from the same people. Poor Kate. There's no doubt her kitty would have suffered yesterday as people rushed to give to the new victim. What a rum do.

happydappy2 · 19/09/2019 19:31

zombie yr entirely missing the point, this is about support for Kate, nothing else. I see you trying to pit women against each other.

Pleased to see that things are progressing steadily for Kate.

Zombiearmageddon · 19/09/2019 19:57

@happydappy2 Funnily enough, I just texted a friend to say I'd posted on here for the first time and predicted 'we see you' as the first response. The next is generally something about policing women's speech. And then a collective attack about earning your chops as a regular so what right does a newbie have to say anything at all to the old guard. That's why I don't post here. Because you can guarantee someone who doesn't like what you have to say will silence you with soundbites and sneer. I don't like what happened here. Someone had a think about launching a crowdfunder the night before a longstanding victim went into court. And then went ahead anyway. It would have been considerate to have waited a couple of nights, maybe a week - there's no rush, the bills won't be in for ages. Poor old Kate, meanwhile, has no voice whatsoever, has been chucked off Twitter, can't even say this creature's name and the one day she has when actions speak for themselves is not stolen from her but, to my mind, certainly encroached upon - to quite the degree looking at the huge sum that went elsewhere. I think it's a really poor show and I'm entitled to say it whether or not I have the old guard's permission.

zombie feel free to start yr own thread in AIBU

Zombiearmageddon · 19/09/2019 20:18

Feel free to have a read of Article 10. And maybe find some more money for the Fair Cop funder as well as now four women's.

I am new on MN. I didn't know posting under someone else's thread meant you're only allowed to say what they give you permission to think. Is this where everyone starts talking about biscuits?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/09/2019 20:20

I had an actual penguin biscuit today - but puked it up again.

zebrasdontwearbras · 19/09/2019 20:21

New posters are welcomed, unless they make it obvious they're here to stir up trouble.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 19/09/2019 20:23

Hoping Kate is sleeping better. I can't think of anything worse than being attacked by this vexatious person.

My spade will be utilised after payday too.

Side note, the KF thread on Hayden, is surreal. It reminds me of when all the crazy stuff went down here, with the characters themselves popping up, and sock puppets galore.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 19/09/2019 20:24

Oh Fekko Flowers

Birdsfoottrefoil · 19/09/2019 20:45

Could the Law Society help find a solicitor? It is awful if none are prepared to act (yet seem fine to act for paedophiles and other awful characters). Though I do remember someone divorcing a solicitor had to go over 50 miles away to find one represent her.

missedith01 · 19/09/2019 21:36

Good luck Kate. I've done a bit of work on the hole.

For those of us who dip in and out, is there an easy-to-find explanation for Mumsnet's attitude to digging holes?

SeaWitchly · 19/09/2019 22:15

Have just popped in to say I have dug some more of Kate’s hole Grin
Will present with my spade at Louise’s hole later today. Sending all my best wishes as one of your Aussie allys x

teawamutu · 20/09/2019 07:06

It feels a bit Handmaid's Tale-y, but I do find it properly inspiring when women (and the odd ally) come together like this. Like Lang, I'll be digging after paydays and will be really proud to do so.

Amalfimamma · 20/09/2019 08:38

Morning all. Kate has finished her masters even through all the pressure and stress she was and is subjected to over the past 12 months.

Who wants to dig as means of offering her a gin for all her hard work and resilience?

I’m handing out spades at work today. They have listened to my little speeches at work already...

Somerville · 20/09/2019 09:07

She got her Masters dissertation finished and handed in, Amalfi? Amidst all the stress of court this week? She’s amazing!

Amalfimamma · 20/09/2019 09:07

frekko

😂😂 Dig or die

Somerville · 20/09/2019 09:08

Oh well done Fekko. You feeling better?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/09/2019 09:18

They way I’m feeling it’s more like ‘dig or get a slap on the back of the head’ or at very least I will whinge and cough all day.

Cuntysnark · 20/09/2019 09:19

What Somerville said. Amazing woman.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 20/09/2019 09:22

now DS2 has started school I just got his nursery deposit back, so was able to do a little digging for Kate today, and will so it again when I get paid next week.

teawamutu · 20/09/2019 09:38

Just done a quick count - Kate's hole has got £1,500 deeper in the last 24 hours. It's ON.
