I really hope the outcome is fair to women and upholds free speech.

I'm happy to help dig a hole and am revving my mini digger as we speak. However, it didn't come with a GPS (bastards) so if someone could pm me directions to any holes that need digging, I'd be most grateful.

Amalfimamma · 19/09/2019 12:55

. I am,of course, concerned that Kate's life is not completely overtaken by this. Why, though, is she representing herself? Is a pro Bono lawyer a possibility?

Kate has been defending her self for over a year as people made promises to her that they didn't keep.

That means, as litigant in person, she had direct contact with the person suing her and if their Twitter rants are anything to go by that wouldn't be an easy or stress-free task.

Personally I've had Kate on the phone to me in tears over the worry and the stress that this, and other situations, have her under. A woman with pnd under this kind of stress for over a year with no support from home or indeed people in the position to support her takes its toll.

Buttonhold · 19/09/2019 12:57

Are all these cases caused by the same - ahem - person?

Somerville · 19/09/2019 12:58

Keeping the focus on Kate on a thread started to show support for Kate sounds like a good plan all round. Good point OP.

happydappy2 · 19/09/2019 12:59

Yes I believe they are-bearing in mind how awful JY has looked in dragging innocent women through the courts you'd think certain people might wise up.

DrLouiseMoody · 19/09/2019 13:02

Yes, I agree that this thread should be about Kate.

I responded to comments about me. No more than that, and have said I really don't want to get drawn into it.

Amalfinna. Is a pro bono lawyer completely off the table at this point?

BustedWench · 19/09/2019 13:10

Kate here, hello.

First off, huge thank you for the support, you've no idea how much this has helped. I am unable to say much given the past years actions on me, but I have been trying since my arrest to secure legal help, I have been let down badly, and have had to litigate in person because I refused to ask others to pay.

My husband saw me break down and decided enough was enough and so the CF was born. I have been fighting since September 2018, and I have not courted this, or promoted this.

Thank you to all who have donated, I have been able to secure criminal representation because of your generosity and I will never forget it.

I also have civil action against me, so a double whammy! This has had a profound effect on my life, and it's still lingering, but one day at a time is working for me!

Again thank you thank you thank you ❤️

Somerville · 19/09/2019 13:24

Ah Kate.
It could be one of us arrested in front of our children next. Locked in a cell to to leak breastmilk and bleed everywhere. And then hauled repeatedly back to court.

I just wish I had more spades so I could dig in for you repeatedly.
Unmumsnetty (((hugs)))

BustedWench · 19/09/2019 13:32

♥️

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 19/09/2019 13:37

Flowers for you Kate

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 19/09/2019 13:51

I may have had a little spillage into a hole. Best Wishes Kate - Is there any other practical support you need in addition to spillages I wonder?

BustedWench · 19/09/2019 13:55

Just for everyone to keep raising their voices or pens where they can and fight this ideology for us all please 😁

LangCleg · 19/09/2019 14:01

I know the clock is ticking down on this hole, Kate. But when it runs out, start another. Okay?

BustedWench · 19/09/2019 14:16

I've done most of the litigation on the civil side alone so a solicitor shouldn't have to do too much, so hoping that'll keep fees within the acceptable range, just need to find one that'll take me, I've been begging for months with no luck.

We are awaiting further advices from the criminal lot to update the existing hole because this is a novel charge, and an emerging area of law which could impact everyone.

I really can't thank everyone enough for donating, I slept much better last night (between being booted in the face and grabbed at by Co sleeping toddler) and I have all that donated to thank for that

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 19/09/2019 14:18

I've dug a little, wish I could do more. Somerville put it so succinctly above. Kate, sending my support.

Yes, please do, there are several pay days between now and February.

Many of us look at what has been done to you and know it could just as easily have happened to any one of us. It's particularly galling when we can all see that violence against women and girls aren't always taken seriously police, and when we know that really serious crimes like rapes and stalking cases are being dropped without any action taken. Almost as if the evidence necessary to drag a mother away from her children and bang her up in a cell is much lower than what is needed to go after a rapist or stalker.

Also, you might want to set it up on crowd justice next time. People are wary after "mattressgate" and there are people who won't donate to crowdfunder that are willing to shell out knowing the money can only be spent on covering legal expenses.

BustedWench · 19/09/2019 15:14

Mattress gate, yes. I was offered money from a fund for someone else, I originally declined the funds because I still had no idea what was happening legally or criminally. I was then emailed that I needed to send ID to confirm I had authorised someone else to receive the funds. I was then made aware that the other recipient was a lady who had pleaded poverty and accepted money from many women, and some who could ill afford to be parted with such funds. I'm a moralistic and transparent person and just wanted that made clear but this presented as an issue to those involved, but thankfully, all those monies reached a very worthy charity indeed, so all was not lost!

I tried to set up a crowd justice but you need solicitors to complete that, and there were none who would take me or even respond. I am also under an injunction so I have been hammered from all angles and no one wanted to help much. Thank goodness for one radfem criminal barrister who has gone above and beyond to help me secure excellent representation, which can now be fully funded because of you all.

I'm sorry I upset others about matressgate but I wanted to ensure everyone who donated knew what was happening but that was not acceptable to some.

teawamutu · 19/09/2019 16:02

Done a little digging, Kate. Will buy a nice new shovel after pay day.

All power to you.

PurpleCrowbar · 19/09/2019 16:17

Have swung a shovel Wink

LangCleg · 19/09/2019 16:25

Yes, please do, there are several pay days between now and February.

Exactly. I have my monthly pot I can afford and would be happy to - no, really, really want to - include you in it for October, November, December and January. Multiple holes are good.

FannyCann · 19/09/2019 16:53

Ditto what Lang said.

Joisanofthedales · 19/09/2019 17:15

Helped Kate to sleep better. Helped Louise too.

GenderApostate19 · 19/09/2019 17:25

Utterly shocking that only one barrister would help.

I don’t know how you’ve kept it together Kate, you have my utmost respect and admiration.

BustedWench · 19/09/2019 17:42

Justice ⚖️ and Gin 🍸(had to improvise)

FannyCann · 19/09/2019 17:57

Utterly shocking that only one barrister would help.

Yes, it's almost like lawyers don't want to risk being seen to challenge the gender orthodoxy.
The Vancouver waters had a similar problem.

Thank goodness you've found a good one.
