Apparently “gender neutral” means trousers aka the male default. This is utterly insane. I mean I wouldn’t have minded the choice of trousers or skirts for either sex but only trousers?

Either what she said was correct or not

Thread is full of opinion

In THAT posters opinion the above statement is true, I expect she didnt DREAM of thinking that someone was going to say what about yoga

I expect if she HAD known that fact she probably would have caveated her reply

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 17:52

Thank you 2B

Very much appreciated Grin

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 17:54

Well then she shouldn't be speaking in absolutes when what she actually means has very narrow terms.

So basically short loose fit skirts allow more freedom to move your legs than some types of trousers - is that what she meant?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 17:54

Cos we were talking about school uniform with a segue way into work

If we were debating exercise then betrands AWESOME idea of shorts would have come up much earlier

My dd did exercise in her school.....in her shorts

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 17:55

- is that what she meant?

One assumes so

Especially as you cant where yoga pants to school

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 17:55

Wear

[doh]

The massive amount of projection going on is befuddling me Grin

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 17:57

Problem being she didn't say that she was only talking about school. In fact we were talking about wearing skirts Vs trousers at work too eg climbing telegraph poles.

SheeshazAZ09 · 09/09/2019 18:02

I too find trousers extremely uncomfortable as well as seriously unflattering. The school should allow pupils to wear a skirt or trousers, as they wish. Too-short skirts are easily dealt with by enforcing a length code, as we had at our school (couldn't be more than 2 inches above the knee).

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2019 18:02

If we've got to qualify every damned thing we say because someone will come along pretending it was an absolute for all cases and all contexts then we'd better shut up shop now as such people will always find nits to pick.

Maybe that's what they want?

Problem being she didn't say that she was only talking about school. In fact we were talking about wearing skirts Vs trousers at work too eg climbing telegraph poles.

In fact, we were talking about schools until you randomly started talking about telegraph poles.

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 18:03

So, given that they give total freedom of movement, way more than trousers or shorts why aren't they worn in yoga classes where what you need is total freedom of movement?

Because, obviously yoga pants give total freedom of movement plus you don't moon the person behind you

A very short skater style of skirt would give total freedom of movement. That is obvious as there is no fabric at all on your legs to get twisted or move about. Yoga pants might be very unrestrictive but they are still more restrictive than a very short skirt. A very short skirt with good knickers, either separate or part of the garment, would be the least restrictive option.

Fraggling · 09/09/2019 18:05

Just catching up

'Refusing to acknowledge that men and boys will nonetheless make erroneous inferences based on that skirt doesn't help anyone.'

No man or boy actually infers that a schoolgirl wants to be sexually assaulted because of the clothes she is wearing.

I mean, come on.

It's an excuse.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2019 18:09

Ooh, I just googled, yoga skirts are a thing! Quite often worn over leggings (which are essentially footless tights, you need bare feet).

Well, that's something useful from this thread at least.

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 18:12

In THAT posters opinion the above statement is true, I expect she didnt DREAM of thinking that someone was going to say what about yoga

Or what about telegraph poles?

I mean if I had a pound for every time I've been thwarted in my ambition of climbing a telegraph pole simply because I've been wearing a skirt....

Although here a loose fitting knee length skirt may well be less restrictive and allow for greater flexibility than a very rigid material like denim which has no give.

Fraggling · 09/09/2019 18:13

A very short skirt does give total freedom of movement.

I didn't suggest that everyone should start wearing them to do yoga.

There are other considerations when we choose clothes, relating to a range of considerations.

It is factual to say though, that a very short skirt gives total freedom of movement.

I remember from my own school days Grin

Fraggling · 09/09/2019 18:15

And while we're at it, I believe I've caught women wearing very short skirts to play tennis at Wimbledon.

They seem to be really quite unimpeded by the shorts. To my untrained eye.

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 18:15

Ooh, I just googled, yoga skirts are a thing! Quite often worn over leggings (which are essentially footless tights, you need bare feet)

They are rather pretty- and you could definitely climb a telegraph pole wearing one.

Fraggling · 09/09/2019 18:15

Skirts lol autocorrecy

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 18:15

I had to go back for ages to check for telephone poles

So most people talking about work and school and all of a sudden we should be taking into account the outside chance of taking a job as a telephone pole climber and popping to the gym to do yoga

My friends son scuba dives for a living

Quite obviously when talking about work i should caveat my comments and refer to wetsuits

But i agree with the pp upthread...the nit picking is irritating

Not as irritating as the projection...

Off to take dd to physio...she might wear her skort

See

No one has mentioned skorts so i reckon i win the thread

Boo yah sucks bertrand Grin

Ereshkigal · 09/09/2019 18:16

In fact, we were talking about schools until you randomly started talking about telegraph poles.

THIS. Enough of the merailing, FFS.

BertrandRussell · 09/09/2019 18:17

I sometimes ride in a habit

Fraggling · 09/09/2019 18:18

Tyro I think we will have to agree to disagree on the clothes signaling to men thing.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 18:18

You can’t rob a bank in a burka

Had that discussion on friday

Bank robbing i would wear a skort...in the hope that my cellulite will distract the witnesses

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 18:19

And while we're at it, I believe I've caught women wearing very short skirts to play tennis at Wimbledon

On a hot summer's day a very short tennis skirt must be a more comfortable option than knee length shorts.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 18:19

Im off at 6.30 in case anyone wonders
