Apparently “gender neutral” means trousers aka the male default. This is utterly insane. I mean I wouldn’t have minded the choice of trousers or skirts for either sex but only trousers?

That telegraph pole won't climb itself, rufus.

Report back pls

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 18:22

I climb the telephone pole and I’M gonna need the physio

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 18:22

And an ambulance

Teddybear45 · 09/09/2019 18:24

Skirts on little girls are rubbish. Trousers far more practical and encourage more activity as girls aren’t worried about potentially exposing skiddy pants.

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 18:28

Ooh, I just googled, yoga skirts are a thing! Quite often worn over leggings (which are essentially footless tights, you need bare feet).

So a skirt over trousers then? How so if trousers restrict freedom of movement?

As for skirts at Wimbledon that has been a bone of contention for years. Many women want to wear shorts or leggings but it's the rules of Wimbledon that prevent it.

Tyrotoxicity · 09/09/2019 18:28

On a hot summer's day a very short tennis skirt must be a more comfortable option than knee length shorts.

I'm just going to shout "Not for everyone!" and then run away to google skorts before I get sucked into repeating myself.

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 18:32

It is factual to say though, that a very short skirt gives total freedom of movement.

You didn't say that though. You said a short skirt gives greater freedom of movement than trousers or shorts - you didn't state what style skirt nor what style trouser nor for what activity.

So a short pencil skirt gives greater freedom of movement than lycra workout trousers does it?

Rubbish. Film stars wearing short skirts don't appear to have great freedom of movement as they try to get out of a car when compared to those wearing trousers.

You made a general statement which is incorrect.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2019 18:33

As I said, a skirt over footless tights. Leggings are much more 'hose' than 'trouser'.

To be sure, women should be allowed the option of wearing shorts at Wimbledon if they prefer. No one is going to argue with that.

ALoadOfTwaddle · 09/09/2019 18:34

Also, on behalf of all those without the elusive thigh gap, may I add chafing as a consideration?

Short skirts are definitely not comfortable for physical activity on a hot day for me unless worn over shorts!

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 18:35

Off to take dd to physio...she might wear her skort

Oh I wonder what the physio will be wearing? Presumably a short skirt so that their freedom of movement is unrestricted you know, what with skirts being the most practical and unrestrictive garment available.

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 18:37

To be sure, women should be allowed the option of wearing shorts at Wimbledon if they prefer. No one is going to argue with that.

And the point is women are made to wear skirts at Wimbledon. They don't choose to wear them because they offer more freedom of movement.

SarahTancredi · 09/09/2019 18:46

But you wouldn't want them to have the option of shorts at Wimbledon would you?

Cos even if the men could wear skirts it would in your eyes mean the women had more choices so we are straight back here arent we?

Tyrotoxicity · 09/09/2019 18:47

But, Decomposing, we can't give the women at Wimbledon the option of shorts.

Because then the women would have two options to choose from, and the men would only have one, and that wouldn't be equal, would it?

why am I doing this to myself?

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2019 18:50

It's ok, look at my link!

Tyrotoxicity · 09/09/2019 19:02

I tried, Errol, but it wants me to sign up and I'm feeling oddly resistant to doing so. This meant I had to absorb the contents in half-second bursts in between hitting 'refresh'.

I saw enough to see that some men would like the skirt option for sports though.

Which is fine by me, so long as everyone is taking care to wear undergarments sufficiently closer to the sturdy-scaffolding end of the spectrum than the dental-floss end. (In the interests of equality I am also in favour of women generally aiming to make underwear decisions which don't habitually result in our labia being accidentally displayed. Call me a prude if you like, but I'm quite fond of the unisex application of the "let's all try not to get our genitals out in public please" rule.)

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2019 19:08

Oh, it didn't do that to me. Maybe it's one of those sites which lets you view a few things before hassling.

Anyway, it's got a bloke extolling very short skirts as providing the ultimate freedom of movement. (Specifically in the context of tennis.) No restrictive inseams.

The photos of Male tennis players in skirts includes a 75 yo Rod Laver, so neither sexist no ageist.Smile

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 19:17

So yes, 1 man says that he would like to wear a short skirt to.play tennis in and that translates to skirts are better than shorts for tennis? Hhhmmm, ok.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2019 19:22

Nah. I was looking for whether there was any evidence either way and that was my top hit, I found it amusing.

Tyrotoxicity · 09/09/2019 19:26

Less physically restrictive doesn't automatically equal better. There are other factors to consider, which will vary from person to person. The best option for you may not be the best option for me. That's why we need both available.

On the plus side, now that Decomposing has acknowledged that at least one male prefers the skirt option, this strange idea - that young males would never choose skirts and so should not be permitted the option to choose them - can finally be rescinded.

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 19:27

So a skirt over trousers then? How so if trousers restrict freedom of movement?

Oh fgs tights are not trousers. The yoga skirts are worn over footless tights.

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 19:31

Given how the man in question described men benefitting more from a short skirt than women, particularly due to inseams around the crutch and him referencing ancient romans in their micro mini skirts I have a few questions about the reason why this man is quite so enthusiastic about him wearing very short skirts.

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 19:34

The yoga skirts are worn over footless tights.

Why though? Why do you need to wear footless tights/leggings under a yoga skirt?

Do you mean that yoga skirts aren't as practical as wearing one single garment, like lycra gym trousers?

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 19:34

To be sure, women should be allowed theoptionof wearing shorts at Wimbledon if they prefer. No one is going to argue with that

WellDecomposing would as that would give women 2 options and only 1 for men because according to her no man would choose the the skirt so that's not fair.

I love that Quora link !

SarahTancredi · 09/09/2019 19:35

So decomposing do you think women should he given the option of shirts at Wimbledon

And what contraception should be scrapped so it's even?

While you are here
