Apparently “gender neutral” means trousers aka the male default. This is utterly insane. I mean I wouldn’t have minded the choice of trousers or skirts for either sex but only trousers?

Yes I'm pretty sure unless your a professional flasher that theres a middle ground between having it all hang out and underwear so tight it cuts off the circulation Hmm

In fact surely the risk of getting caught/trapped in zips and the pain of it getting trapped where it shouldnt through falling out would be incentive enough to actually buy underwear that fits and does its job.

DecomposingComposers · 07/09/2019 23:40

Men in kilts manage all the time to not expose their genitals

Kilts are knee length not mid thigh length.

DecomposingComposers · 07/09/2019 23:41

And men wearing kilts aren't often expected to sit cross legged on the floor, as boys in school are.

Justhadathought · 07/09/2019 23:43

So you would tell boys what type of underwear to wear? Even though tight fitting pants aren't healthy and many find them uncomfortable?

What are you actually talking about......?

Men in many societies wear skirts/or similar with no problem........

Justhadathought · 07/09/2019 23:44

You seem obsessed with short skirts.

DecomposingComposers · 07/09/2019 23:45

Not a case of so tight it cuts off circulation - it's a case of holding the testicles against the body that is unhealthy. Bad also, consider the different types of ladies knickers - why does 1 woman wear a thong and the other granny pants? Comfort and preference.

In fact surely the risk of getting caught/trapped in zips and the pain of it getting trapped where it shouldnt through falling out would be incentive enough to actually buy underwear that fits and does its job.

Have you seen men wearing boxer shorts? The genitals fall out down the leg not through the fly. Why are they going to get caught in a zip? That happens when they go to the toilet.

MargueritaBlue · 07/09/2019 23:47

So skirts are not practical for boys and men

Many of the Scottish regiments fought WW1 wearing skirts (kilts). Some of the Highland regiments entered the Second World War wearing kilts, although it was recognised as impractical for modern warfare, and in the first year of the war was officially banned as combat dress. Very few men in every day life will need to be dressed appropriately for armed combat.

MargueritaBlue · 07/09/2019 23:48

And the flashing of genitals and underwear too.

DecomposingComposers · 07/09/2019 23:48

Because that is what girls wear at school. I had 7 years of arguing with my dd to unroll her skirt waist band so that her knickers weren't on show. Schools can't make girls wear regulation length skirts so let's make it even more difficult by widening the problem to boys too shall we? When there's a perfectly simple solution - let boys wear shorts.

DecomposingComposers · 07/09/2019 23:51

And the flashing of genitals and underwear too.

Because it's an issue. Why don't you ask the men in your life how good an idea it is?

Why do you have to do such mental gymnastics just to insist that boys can't be offered the option of shorts but have to accept skirts?

Justhadathought · 07/09/2019 23:52

How will that stop girls rolling up their skirt, though - should they wish to?

Justhadathought · 07/09/2019 23:55

It is you doing the mental gymnastics to be perfectly frank. For some reason you seem resistant to offering both sexes the opportunity and choice to wear skirts, shorts or trousers. Nobody has to accept anything they don't feel comfortable with; or don't want to brave......

DecomposingComposers · 07/09/2019 23:56

That's not the boys problem is it? This discussion isn't about girls rolling up their skirts because people on here won't countenance such a discussion.

MargueritaBlue · 07/09/2019 23:56

I haven't said anything about not giving boys the option of wearing shorts and I don't think anyone else has either.

Please find any post by any poster saying boys should not be allowed to wear shorts.

Several posters have said the option of shorts, trousers or skirts should be available for all.

DecomposingComposers · 07/09/2019 23:57

Because I don't see why girls should have a greater choice than boys..so give boys 2 choices and give girls 2 choices. Then it's fair to both.

DecomposingComposers · 08/09/2019 00:00

Several posters have said the option of shorts, trousers or skirts should be available for all.

But why? No one even mentioned girls wanting shorts until I said boys should be offered them. Before that posters were saying everyone should be offered skirts or trousers.

And why would girls want to wear shorts when (I believe it was you) listed the many reasons why trousers are no good for women and girls including giving them thrush? So why would they want another trouser style?

MargueritaBlue · 08/09/2019 00:02

What it is, is nonsense. There is no valid reason whatsoever to support your case that girls can choose between skirts or trousers but not shorts.

Justhadathought · 08/09/2019 00:04

Because I don't see why girls should have a greater choice than boys..so give boys 2 choices and give girls 2 choices. Then it's fair to both

Wow!

I take it you don't have daughters?

You are suggesting that women and girls should have less choice and freedom over what to wear because patriarchal society is more restrictive for boys when it comes to clothing and personal expression?

Seriously?

Justhadathought · 08/09/2019 00:07

But why? No one even mentioned girls wanting shorts until I said boys should be offered them. Before that posters were saying everyone should be offered skirts or trousers

Have boys said they want shorts? Mine never did. And anyway, why not just give the full range of choices to both sexes. ? That would be fair and equal.

Equality of opportunity is more realistic than equality of outcome.

MargueritaBlue · 08/09/2019 00:07

But why? No one even mentioned girls wanting shorts until I said boys should be offered them. Before that posters were saying everyone should be offered skirts or trousers

I expect no-one mentioned it because shorts are not currently an option for any secondary school age pupil but if they became an option there is no valid reason for not allowing girls to wear them, if they wanted to.

And why would girls want to wear shorts when (I believe it was you) listed the many reasons why trousers are no good for women and girls including giving them thrush? So why would they want another trouser style?

Your points are getting more and more ridiculous. Girls who are happy to wear trousers are probably likely to be happy to wear shorts. And why should they not?

DecomposingComposers · 08/09/2019 00:08

I take it you don't have daughters?

Despite me saying only a few posts ago about my daughter?

DecomposingComposers · 08/09/2019 00:12

Have boys said they want shorts?

Yes, my son does and my husband campaigned to be allowed to wear shorts to work in the summer.

And anyway, why not just give the full range of choices to both sexes. ? That would be fair and equal.

Because skirts are not a valid or practical option for boys so it is an illusion of choice. Therefore you are, in reality, giving girls 3 choices and boys 2. So that is neither fair nor equal. And treating people equally doesn't mean treating them the same.

And to reflect your question back to you - how many boys are asking to wear skirts?

Justhadathought · 08/09/2019 00:12

This is getting quite strange.......there is definitely an underlying issue here...one that is informing Decomposing's narrative. Something must have happened, or have been a particularly traumatic issue.

Justhadathought · 08/09/2019 00:13

Because skirts are not a valid or practical option for boys so it is an illusion of choice

But they could be.........

DecomposingComposers · 08/09/2019 00:13

I expect no-one mentioned it because shorts are not currently an option for any secondary school age pupil but if they became an option there is no valid reason for not allowing girls to wear them, if they wanted to.

So what if they aren't currently an option. Skirts aren't an option for boys but you've still banged on about it haven't you?
