Jessica elgot@jessicaelgot
The chair of the LGBT Lib Dems has resigned in protest of Philip Lee's acceptance into the party

This is Jennie Rigg.

They've just posted their resignation from the party.

What a shame.

Also the fuckwitted Radical Association have gone into complete meltdown.

Radical Association @radicalassoc
Fundamentally Philip Lee isn't a liberal and we are disappointed that he has been allowed to join the Lib Dems - a move that has already caused resignations of senior & long standing voices within our movement.

This is not in any way a good day for liberalism in the UK.

We will be considering our further response to this; we believe we were right to oppose Lee joining, and will consider ways to officially express that in the coming weeks. We are very sorry and sad to see resignations of great liberals occurring as a result of today.

If you know the back history of this, then the radical association don't understand what liberalism is and are utter fuckwits but hold a substantial amount of influence in the party.

Jennie Rigg going is interesting. And I think having another MP is going to outweigh any amount of wailing this lot are going to do.

This news made me smile earlier. Maybe the lib dems might learn what a woman is or at least have someone challenge their thinking on magical sex swaps. That sounds like swingers, but I mean changing sex!

3dogs2cats · 03/09/2019 17:01

Well. Well.. BJ and Dominic have certainly forced some issues. Philip Lee was deselected in June so had nothing to lose really. What do we know about Jennie Rigg?

ajandjjmum · 03/09/2019 17:05

His constituency voted leave, so I suppose he was never going to be their choice again.

AlwaysComingHome · 03/09/2019 17:07

Put on extra popcorn just in case.

RedToothBrush · 03/09/2019 17:18

Luke Graham has resigned too.

How awful.

Lee might not be good on LGBT issues, but I can't say I find these two any less homophobic in their views, particularly with reference to lesbians who they seem to forget are actual homosexuals rather than homogenderists.

What do we know about Jennie Rigg?

This is where I wish rowntrees was about.

There are a few very enlightening threads about this clique within the LDs.

This thread is a pretty good one to read for some background but there's others on the general behaviour of the @LGBTLD twitter account.

When just challenged about this on BBC news, he said he hadn't said in 2014 what is being circulated and people saying it should 'watch what they say' before explaining his position and trying to qualify his comments from 2014.

No messing about with that response.

Oh what a shame if Rigg has gone.

Some stuff on this thread
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3207415-Just-when-you-thought-the-LibDems-couldnt-out-crazy-Labour?pg=3

Jennie Rigg complained about the Lib Dems' Farage/May poster on the grounds that it was transphobic.

ThePurported · 03/09/2019 17:49

This is not in any way a good day for liberalism in the UK.

That's exactly what I thought when Lynne Featherstone told women who don't believe that people can change sex to leave the party. What a broad church, eh?

MrGHardy · 03/09/2019 18:07

" the radical association don't understand what liberalism is"

They do not. They consider liberalism as what the US consider it these days. They do not consider it in the sense of classical liberalism (which the yellow party, FDP, in Germany do actually still take it is, mostly).

SoloNow · 03/09/2019 18:40

Hello - why is Lee considered not Liberal? Has he made comments considered transphobic?
Thanks in advance for any clarification Flowers

donquixotedelamancha · 03/09/2019 18:57

the radical association don't understand what liberalism is

I've seen little evidence that anyone in the Lib Dems does. It is my hope that the Labour and Tory MPs joining them may catalyse a resurgence in pragmatism, plurality and competence which would allow me to vote for them again.

ChattyLion · 03/09/2019 19:09

Good grief, how laughable, who made this lot the keepers of the true Liberal Democrat flame? Surely instead of flouncing, don’t politicians usually want to make their points and win the argument from inside the tent? Isn’t it just part of normal professional political life to disagree with colleagues, build alliances, hear and debate with alternative viewpoints and ultimately try to convince others of the merits of your views?

Is Challoner party-hopping off to join a third political party, surely not?

SalrycLuxx · 03/09/2019 19:19

Wait - challenor has left? Yay. Might actually be able to vote for them in the future then.

Haven’t a clue but he is / was a doctor (as in GP not a PhD in gender studies or some other bollox like that) so it may be he has funny ideas about chromosomes and the such like.

SoloNow · 03/09/2019 19:45

Yes well, I have funny ideas about chromosomes tooSmile
I would vote LibDem if those funny ideas were mainstream in the party. I live in hope.

XXcstatic · 03/09/2019 20:03

Win-win for the Lib Dems today, then Grin

MockersthefeMANist · 03/09/2019 20:08

I think Lee may have special dispensation like Anglican priests who join the RCC and can carry on shagging.

SadlyMissTaken · 03/09/2019 20:16

In the midst of all this turmoil i suddenly feel optimistic... Someone to vote for again?

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 03/09/2019 20:35

Didn't the LibDems have a leader who was agin homosexuality until recently?

ArcheryAnnie · 03/09/2019 21:01

The "LGBT" LibDems have flounced? One would have to have a heart of stone not to laugh.

Disclaimer: I have put quotes around the "LGBT" LibDems as we all know how bloody homophobic they are.

DisenfranchisedVoter · 03/09/2019 23:24

Grin this could get interesting is Aimee about to declare another set of women t**fs and add them to their twitter blocker?

Popchyk · 03/09/2019 23:56

The rest of the LGBT Lib Dems seeing this as a power grab for them.

Zoe O' Connell (male transgender person) already stepped into Rigg's shoes as Acting Chair.

No way will O'C or Sarah Brown be resigning in protest at Lee's inclusion.

Looks like that means that there's only one biological female left on the LGBT Executive Committee. Out of 11 places. The rest are biological males. Don't you just love diversity?

The one woman is married to a man. And identifies as queer.

So precisely zero lesbian representation on that committee.

donquixotedelamancha · 04/09/2019 00:08

So precisely zero lesbian representation on that committee.

I'm pretty sure some of the men are lesbians, so that's OK.
