The chair of the LGBT Lib Dems has resigned in protest of Philip Lee's acceptance into the party

This is Jennie Rigg.

They've just posted their resignation from the party.

What a shame.

Also the fuckwitted Radical Association have gone into complete meltdown.

Radical Association @radicalassoc
Fundamentally Philip Lee isn't a liberal and we are disappointed that he has been allowed to join the Lib Dems - a move that has already caused resignations of senior & long standing voices within our movement.

This is not in any way a good day for liberalism in the UK.

We will be considering our further response to this; we believe we were right to oppose Lee joining, and will consider ways to officially express that in the coming weeks. We are very sorry and sad to see resignations of great liberals occurring as a result of today.

If you know the back history of this, then the radical association don't understand what liberalism is and are utter fuckwits but hold a substantial amount of influence in the party.

Jennie Rigg going is interesting. And I think having another MP is going to outweigh any amount of wailing this lot are going to do.

Given the the title is about helping your family, to me it's pretty damn clear that consultation hasn't been involved with families at all.

Or just the head (male) of the family.

The list also includes maintaining the triple lock on pensions- hardly beneficial to either families or young people. Have they actually just brainstormed all the policies they can think of?

Needmoresleep · 08/09/2019 23:10

They certainly don’t seem to have costed any...

New Lib Dem MP Phillip Lee Will Meet LGBT Members To Try And Head Off A Revolt

Excl: The former Tory MP will speak to concerned members at party conference next week after several quit the party over his record.

Time to bombard him Mnetters.... especially if you are a former LD.

He has no idea whats about to hit him at that conference.

His reaction and whether he will soon be chanting TWAW will be interesting.

In a letter to Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson and chief whip Alistair Carmichael, more than 50 party members warned that "a lot of hurt has been done" and the party had not done enough to "avoid the tragedy of further resignations". In a separate letter, one member described Swinson’s actions as "disgraceful".

Thanks Red.

I sincerely hope Jo Swinson is able to stop for a minute amidst the Brexit madness and look at what is really going on in her party. They have to stop being anti-women and blindly obeying the toxic mob.
Just look at the ridicule the Green Party is getting for calling women 'self-identifying non-males'. That's where the Lib Dems are currently heading. This crap is categorically not compatible with rational, evidence-based policies.

New Lib Dem MP Phillip Lee Will Meet LGBT Members To Try And Head Off A Revolt

It's ironic that he left the Tories because they don't tolerate dissent to find that the Liberals are just as illiberal, merely in a less centralised manner.

I still can't believe that the crime that have settled on is being in favour of mandatory public health screening for immigrants but that's what keeps being brought up.

birdsdestiny · 09/09/2019 20:17

It depends who is more important to swinson, I suspect those in the lgbt group may be over estimating their importance. Lib dems are moving in to a different league now. We shall see I suppose.

ThePurported · 09/09/2019 20:40

There is no way in hell Swinson will turf him out, but I suspect Phillip Lee is currently being briefed on how to grovel to the TRA contingent.
Incidentally, the latest YouGov survey included some standalone questions about Mermaids etc. I don't know if it's the Tories, but someone is definitely surveying views on this stuff.

RedToothBrush · 09/09/2019 21:01

The LDs are sailing perilously close to an election with this shit going on.

It's going to blow up in their faces.

It makes me so angry cos they should be better than this crap if they are liberal and democratic.

The bigger the party gets, the more scrutiny the active pro-Trans voice will get.

The thing is, supporting individual's rights is absolutely fine and aligned with LD values. Whether that individual is a (adult human female) or a trans person.

The Trans contingent that is desperate to erase women will be forced to defend itself in the face of common sense as the party becomes more established. And I think they will struggle.

birdsdestiny · 09/09/2019 22:13

I think they wanted to be begged to come back. They have realised this isn't going to happen and that a Tory crossing the floor is a billion times more important than they are. It depends if they are happy to be smaller fish in a bigger pond. If so I suspect we will see a statement saying after meeting with Philip Lee we have been able to resolve out differences.

confusedofwokingham · 09/09/2019 23:21

I have changed to one of my little used names for this.

Philip Lee is my MP, and I'm not sure he's a particular defender of women's rights. I wrote to him re Karen White/transwomen in women's prisons and his response was not especially supportive. I can only hope the letter may have got him thinking a bit though!

endofthelinefinally · 10/09/2019 10:10

Health screening is really important and nothing to do with discrimination. We almost eradicated TB in this country, now it is on the rise and the programme of screening and immunisation has had to be put in place again.
What about SARS, swine flu? Do we just ignore and take our chances?
How do people think we eradicated small pox?
I am astounded by the levels of sheer ignorance about all sorts of things among people who are supposed to be educated.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 10/09/2019 10:15

If you write a bit of health information you are supposed to write it for an 8 year old, because health literacy is so poor in the UK.

Perhaps that is the problem. Basic facts, basic science and basic common sense are hard.

endofthelinefinally · 10/09/2019 10:24

Well, I suppose it is a bit like not understanding basic biology, chromosomes etc.

Popchyk · 10/09/2019 10:26

Sarah Brown is staying at the hotel where the conference is. Despite no longer being a member of the Lib Dems.

No doubt Brown will be trying to orchestrate behind the scenes.

This is a big opportunity for the other LGBs to have their voice heard, though and to organise for a more rational approach within the party.

The LGBT committee of the Lib Dems has been very trans-dominated. They have no lesbians on the committee at all now. Weird how "we're a tiny minority" and dominating any LGBT group and completely erasing lesbians seem to go hand in hand.

DuMondeB · 10/09/2019 14:07

But yay, an LGBT committee consisting of 11 biological males and one woman in a relationship with a man. So diverse. So representative

😂

I'd like to see transitioning as acceptable grounds for a fast-track divorce, personally. Other options (dissolving/annulling the marriage) leave women in a legal no-man's land regarding things like division of hte assets, maintenance, etc

Agree. The spousal veto would be unlikely to stand up against a court challenge nowadays anyway. Better to get in front of that and instead make a spouse’s transition grounds for quick divorce.

Ali86 · 10/09/2019 14:27

Just a practical point on this (and not really about the thread as a whole) but if you anul the marriage, which you can if your spouse applies for a gender recognition certificate, then you get a decree of nullity which entitles you to use exactly the same law on division of assets and finances as on divorce - see here

Ali86 · 10/09/2019 14:28

annul sorry!! Wish there was an edit button

RiotAndAlarum · 10/09/2019 15:09

I thought it was important to keep annulment as an option, for those who cannot countenance divorce? Surely it's important for them not to be trapped. Good to hear the finances are covered, Ali86

RedToothBrush · 10/09/2019 19:33

There was due to be a bill of no fault divorce after 6 months separation but that just got torpedoed by prorogation and now all the work and time parliament has spent on it will have to be redone.
