TRA publicly gloats about terminally ill young woman’s diagnosis and impending death

As everyone who read this will know, Magdalen Berns is terminally ill with glioblastoma and has moved to palliative care, which is the last stage of cancer. It is an absolute tragedy that a young person is in this position, and someone so brilliant and brave and committed, with so much to offer. Hideous.

I was utterly horrified to see on Twitter that Rachel Mckinnn has been publicly gloating about this fact, encouraging followers to ‘celebrate’ that Magdalen is ‘dying of brain cancer’.

This is evil, isn’t it? It’s the unvarnished face of hatred, spewing its pus out into the world.

There’s an open letter about this on Medium, but I want to do more. Does anyone have any ideas of how this could be publicised?

McKinnon in the past has also wished that we (the people who disagree with the TRA agenda) would ‘die in a grease fire’. This is a misogynist daydreaming about, and celebrating, women dying in horrible pain.

Am I right in thinking McKinnon may be coming to the UK at some point in the future? Doing what? Are there organisations involved with that visit, who can be asked publicly why they’re supporting this active, obscene, death fantasising hatred of women? Academic institutions? Cycling publications?

Is there scope for advocating for McKinnon to be barred from entering the UK, on the same grounds as are those who promote some forms of radical Islam? I know it wouldn’t succeed, but it could attract attention!

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere.

Yes, you could set up a government petition asking for RM to be banned from entering the UK on the grounds that RM is a frightening misogynist who makes us feel unsafe.

I'd sign.

Qcng · 27/08/2019 09:30

^makes women feel unsafe.

2BthatUnnoticed · 27/08/2019 09:31

I understand and totally agree OP. However, I believe we need to focus on Magdalen in positive ways (eg add to her tribute thread). Any attention we give to this person rewards them, and will be used in negative ways. So let’s give them zero.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 27/08/2019 09:32

Yes there is a thread about it. Sometime in Sept/Oct I think.

2BthatUnnoticed · 27/08/2019 09:34

Also, yes they are coming, but I do not think they are anyway near that kind of threshold. They would benefit from the attention. It sucks but I think No Contact is the healthiest way.

Floisme · 27/08/2019 09:38

I disagree with paying attention to attention seekers.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 27/08/2019 09:38

McKinnon is a truly despicable person on so many levels. The institute in Canada who employs this stain in humanity should be ashamed of themselves.

HandsOffMyRights · 27/08/2019 09:38

Nothing to add apart from the fact that RM is despicable. Protected by Twitter and other friends like Linda Riley, the editor of Diva Magazine).

Magdalen is a star and the type of person RM will never be.

I'll support a petition but RM's actions and tweets are doing more to expose the true intentions of many TRAs and the dangers of self ID.

RM is drawing attention to the type of treatment women are experiencing and if they continue like this then they will peak a nation during that visit.

Have you seen Brene Brown's Netflix show? She talks about how internet commentary is "the cesspool of humanity" and lists some of the awful comments she received after her Ted talk was first broadcast. She suggests we need to start letting these appalling comments "fall to the floor where they belong" instead of "picking them up and holding them to our hearts". I'm not suggesting we do nothing but giving RM the oxygen of publicity won't help Magdalen. Sending our love and support to her and her loved ones might be more productive.

weebarra · 27/08/2019 09:47

Would expect nothing more. "What would Magdalen do?" should be our guide.

DuchessDumbarton · 27/08/2019 09:47

Yup........grey rock, as often said here.
No attention.

Michelleoftheresistance · 27/08/2019 09:48

I wholly agree about supporting Magdalen, but Magdalen is definitely not a person who believes in letting things lie or go unchallenged, and has taken a great deal of flak in her life pursuing that aim.

Personally I think these views of McKinnon's should be publicised and shared as widely as possible. On the evening news and in the papers would be great but social media helps too, lots of screenshots. Let McKinnon explain and express that women displeasing McKinnon should die in the most vile ways imaginable and McKinnon will celebrate their demise. Let McKinnon do the heavy lifting helping the general public understand that this is a well known, often mentioned facet of the loving and inclusive trans rights agenda.

Let people see for themselves the kind of person and the kind of loathing of women McKinnon and many others leading the lobby stand for, and have the freedom to make informed choices, just the way Magdalen did this with nice veneer appalling ethics speakers such as Dennis. Covering up, helping the TRA lobby hide and gloss over their loose cannons who speak too much of their truth and not reacting just aids McKinnon and aids the political lobby, and Magdalen never seems to have had much truck with that.

wigglybluelines · 27/08/2019 09:50

Louise Moody has written an open letter condemning McKinnon's tweets.

If you give her your name she'll add you as a signatory. You can find Louise on Spinster or Facebook. (Twitter banned her).

WhatsNextMrsLandingham · 27/08/2019 09:52

I'm blocked by McKinnon but still reported the account when screenshots were made available. They are a nasty piece of work and their tweets are full of hate for anyone who disagrees with them. It'll be interesting to see their reply to the doctor (who shall remain nameless) for saying the sentiments of the tweets were bad, though this may have been due to the fact they are already in hot water with the GMC.

Michelleoftheresistance · 27/08/2019 09:56

Just to add: I'm all for grey rocking tweets and not giving attention directly to this kind of open provocation. There is a difference between responding to the person, particularly when that's the person's main aim, and just making sure the general public see information necessary to them making informed choices. And the establishment see the general public being shown the full picture and not just the nice, sanitised bits.

wigglybluelines · 27/08/2019 10:01

Here is Louise Moody's open letter:

medium.com/@drlouisejmoody/open-letter-to-larry-krasnoff-philosophy-college-of-charleston-john-gordon-director-how-to-c028cab5fc86

It's addressed to "Open Letter to Larry Krasnoff (Philosophy, College of Charleston), John Gordon (Director, how to: Academy), and Little, Brown and Company"

Presumably McKinnon's employers? And also the company paying for McKinnon to come to the UK I think?

wigglybluelines · 27/08/2019 10:01

Michelleoftheresistance I totally agree.

AncientLights · 27/08/2019 10:16

Glad to see A Harrop is disgusted by McK's behaviour in this.

DuMondeB · 27/08/2019 10:20

We all need to Be More Magdalen.

McKinnon is a cock, but I expect nothing else.

wigglybluelines · 27/08/2019 10:30

Glad to see A Harrop is disgusted by McK's behaviour in this

Harrop is under investigation by the GMC for his disgusting behaviour towards women on social media.

Sorry but I'll reserve judgement on whether he was moved to comment by a genuine feeling of disgust with McKinnon or a self serving need to appear compassionate because the GMC is looking.

RuffleCrow · 27/08/2019 10:31

Change of heart from me: this is hate speech against someone with a disability (terminal illness is classed as a disability, unsurprisingly) and her sexuality is also clearly a factor. I imagine what he has said is also a crime in Canada too. Has anyone contacted the police?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 27/08/2019 10:43

Michelle I agree - no need to respond to the one who is wishing death on people, but people can and should be made aware of what has been said. This is someone who has been 'consulted' on trans sport issue, no? By the BBC? So clearly has a voice that is respected and has been amplified by the establishment.

We all need to Be More Magdalen. Hear, hear.

HandsOffMyRights · 27/08/2019 10:47

Didn't Martina get dropped from an organisation because of RM?

Also, BBC have previously promoted RM and penalised opponents. What say you BBC?
