TRA publicly gloats about terminally ill young woman’s diagnosis and impending death

As everyone who read this will know, Magdalen Berns is terminally ill with glioblastoma and has moved to palliative care, which is the last stage of cancer. It is an absolute tragedy that a young person is in this position, and someone so brilliant and brave and committed, with so much to offer. Hideous.

I was utterly horrified to see on Twitter that Rachel Mckinnn has been publicly gloating about this fact, encouraging followers to ‘celebrate’ that Magdalen is ‘dying of brain cancer’.

This is evil, isn’t it? It’s the unvarnished face of hatred, spewing its pus out into the world.

There’s an open letter about this on Medium, but I want to do more. Does anyone have any ideas of how this could be publicised?

McKinnon in the past has also wished that we (the people who disagree with the TRA agenda) would ‘die in a grease fire’. This is a misogynist daydreaming about, and celebrating, women dying in horrible pain.

Am I right in thinking McKinnon may be coming to the UK at some point in the future? Doing what? Are there organisations involved with that visit, who can be asked publicly why they’re supporting this active, obscene, death fantasising hatred of women? Academic institutions? Cycling publications?

Is there scope for advocating for McKinnon to be barred from entering the UK, on the same grounds as are those who promote some forms of radical Islam? I know it wouldn’t succeed, but it could attract attention!

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere.

Anything it seems RM disagrees with yes, very aggressive! Some of the responses I’ve seen to people who agree with RM / allies is Shock

Just has to be right and have the last word always.

As for celebrating a death - I might think the world is safer or saner place with out for eg Osama bin Laden, but I would not celebrate his death.
I wouldn’t mourn it at all either, and I’d be grateful the world was lighter. But then he was a mass murder, not someone who hurt my fee fees on the internet Hmm ❄️

Fabulous post @ScreamingBeans.

My parents were true blue Tories. They were born before WW2 - decades before - so they really did see the difference a welfare state made. They were so prod to be part of a society who cared for all its population. Mum had qualified privately before '48, but started working for the NHS as soon as she could after, as did many of her medic friends.

My parents were appalled at what Thatcher did. Mum was very aware of the many problems - corruption included - facing the NHS but solving them the way MrsT did was shameful.

ScreamingBeans · 02/09/2019 15:37

Thanks @Jux

I just want to add something about the TRA modus operandi: It's important to them to attack feminists and to ensure that that there is no coherent progressive opposition to their political goals. That's why they focus on people like Magdalen, Meghan Murphy, Julie Bindel, Cathy Brennan etc.: they know that right wing people won't accept their bat-shittery anyway, so there's no point trying to influence them.

But the left will accept anything, because by definition, we're more open minded and tolerant than the right (as a movement, not as individuals, necessarily). The left very nearly accepted paedophilia as a progressive demand -honestly, any loon, pervert or political stray, however reactionary, can latch on to the left and be given at least a fair hearing before factions thereof will reject whatever the latest idiotic fashion might be, so long as they dress it up in progressive language. Whereas the right tend to be quite focused about their agenda and ideology in a way the left just aren't.

So you can get any stupid, insane, crazy or regressive idea you like and as long as you can somehow disguise it as progressive, you can coat-tail at least some factions of the left. If a very important faction of the left (radical feminism) is speaking out loudly and articulately, it's difficult for the rest of the left (however misogynist) to ignore them and so it's absolutely crucial to silence them if you want to coat tail effectively.

Hence the total lack of interest in attacking powerful right wing men and the disproportionate focus on relatively powerless women.

Spot. On.

MargueritaBlue · 02/09/2019 17:27

I never voted for Thatcher but the gloating by certain factions on the left about her death and the vilification of anyone who objected to it was odious.

Bit off topic but Thatcher did focus attention on the apparently novel (to some) concept that men have a responsibility to support their children financially. I recall very right on lefty friends being absolutely outraged that a friend of theirs could not afford to have a baby with wife number 2 as the CSA was making him pay support to the children he already had with wife number 1. I was supposed to share their outrage. The lefty male half of this couple then asked me did I think it was fair a man has to support a child conceived on a one night stand or to a prostitute?

Propertyofhood · 02/09/2019 17:38

Just seen all this.

Fuck me, the fact that it was Harrop who waded in to call out McKinnon says it all really!

McKinnon really is just a nasty piece of work.

That sound you can hear is Haddock desperately backpedalling and trying to appease his superiors. He's well in the shit and he will climb on anyone he can to get out of it.

sarasmartie · 04/09/2019 15:33

Gloating about anyone’s demise or illness is wrong, kiwifarms have been doing this for years and nobody bats an eyelid

GirlDownUnder · 04/09/2019 16:25

kiwifarms have been doing this for years

Have they? Are you on kiwifarms a lot then?

Also not sure how this is relevant to this thread.

sarasmartie · 04/09/2019 17:49

@GirlDownUnder you wouldn’t see the relevance I don’t use kiwifarms no because they harass people until people take their own lives and then gloat about it and I see mumsnet users on there but I’m not one of them

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/09/2019 18:18

Not a mumsnet user?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/09/2019 18:19

Oh no....

I see what you are saying

sarasmartie · 04/09/2019 18:34

@Rufusthebewilderedreindeer
I’m not a kiwifarm user is what I meant

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/09/2019 18:54

S’okay sara

I got that on 2nd reading..it takes me a while Grin

Ereshkigal · 04/09/2019 19:10

How do you know who is a Mumsnetter on KF? Yes people read it occasionally for the news about various TRAs, but that isn't an endorsement of KF or anything they do.

Knewmee · 04/09/2019 19:19

If you read kiwi farms, I’d say you are a ‘user’ of it. You ‘use’ it by reading. You don’t have to be a member of a website, or post on it, to ‘use’ it.
Who took their own life?

sarasmartie · 04/09/2019 20:51

@Ereshkigal because they said so and it was part of their user ID

sarasmartie · 04/09/2019 20:55

@Knewmee a quick google with the word KF and suicide will show several articles and and some kind of partition against KF for those very reasons

A user is someone who contributes and who has registered, I don’t contribute and have not registered nor would I as I don’t want to be a part of the harassment, stalking and cyber bullying which stemmed from 4chan or 6chan or whatever

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/09/2019 21:37

Why on earth do people persist in having a pop at mumsnet posters who are using a forum that isnt even mumsnet

I dont get it

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/09/2019 21:40

Its just weird

GrinitchSpinach · 04/09/2019 21:48

Magdalen Berns is a legend in her own far-too-brief lifetime. I've really enjoyed (and learned from) the re-posting of her various videos.

I'd add that her completely straightforward, no bullshit way of addressing the topics really seems to get through to straight men who otherwise think they don't have a dog in this fight...

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/09/2019 22:01

And

While i think about it, the whole threadis about someone saying something completely abhorrent

The correct reponse isnt

‘Well i heard of another website and they say abhorrent things too’

What are we...fucking 12!

Give Haddock a band wagon and he'll jump on it.
RMcK is a disgusting human being, anybody that gloats about a young woman's impending death is one sick and revolting individual.

No words. Will edit my open letter in the morning (all names sent have now been added - still accepting!).

This person is rather hate filled. Would hate to be like that. So unhappy.
