Hello FWRs

Has anyone signed up to spinster.xyz yet? It’s like twitter but without the misogyny. No banning for stating biological truths. See you over there hopefully

I was about to join but see it's been closed to registrations for the moment.

Is there much disruption on there from TRAs?

Yeahnahyeah · 12/08/2019 22:38

notterfnorcis same. I think they warned it would have a pre-opening, then close again to sort the traffic/servers/nerdy stuff.

It's a big job to set something like this up. Can't wait Smile

2Rebecca · 12/08/2019 22:59

I've not seen much TRA disruption. I see it as an addition to other forums. It's handy to be able to talk without remembering that correctly sexing someone is banned or having males trying to derail threads and set women against each other because they prefer being bullies to getting on with their lives.
I don't hang around trans websites trying to stir up trouble, but then we also don't protest at their meetings, if a few women sit in chairs in the audience at their meetings they're evicted. Most gender critical meetings are happy to have trans people come and listen and ask questions as long as they don't try and stir up trouble and try and be the centre of attention.

It works fine on my iphone without a special app

Who is she/he?

Amalfimamma · 13/08/2019 00:31

A grifter who takes money from disabled women, single mum's, women on benefits and fundraisers (to buy a mattress)

GirlDownUnder · 13/08/2019 05:52

I’m not on twitter, but stalk lots, so I reckon I’ll work out Spinster when it re-opens.

By biggest issue will be remembering when I’m using MN that I can’t correctly sex someone or I’ll be banned Wine 😂

FannyCann · 13/08/2019 06:57

Are people keeping their twitter names or going for total anonymity and new names?

Sexnotgender · 13/08/2019 08:10

I’m not using my Twitter name no.

OhHolyJesus · 13/08/2019 08:39

I'm not using any of my previous MN or Twitter names. I want to start afresh!

AncientLights · 13/08/2019 08:48

I'm also using a different name over there. Not worked out how to use it properly yet, but I could say that about MN after 18 months. It does feel much freer there than here, no minding your Ps & Qs.

Beebeequeue · 13/08/2019 10:34

I’m using a new name on there. I have to be anonymous due to working for Woke.corp.

Was thinking... though we won’t be banned for dead naming etc....could we get into trouble legally for “hate crimes” in terms of police involvement or other legal actions?

@MNHQ might want to take note, they might lose their bread and butter (posters) to spinster with their awful rules on the trans issue. ONe of the reasons I have added it to my daily round. AS WELL AS NOT INSTEAD OF...

And you and your ilk, sweetie, are one of the reasons I have done so! If you think that merely by adding a dash of emotional blackmail you can cow most posters here you are sadly mistaken!

Personally I deal with someone far more well versed in it that most here seem to be.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/08/2019 11:24

I am using a variation.

could we get into trouble legally for “hate crimes” in terms of police involvement or other legal actions? Probably. TRAs know no bounds. But at this point I'd almost welcome it! Self emplyed, of a certain age, living in Stixville... my IP address usually comes up as somewhere 30 miles away... so good luck to them!

Staffori · 13/08/2019 13:11

I joined yesterday and it seems great. I've seen a lot of my favourite Tweeters and bloggers there. They are currently closed for new registrations because they are upgrading to handle the overload!

It isn't supposed to be a female-only space, by the way. This is from the FAQs.

"Yes - men are allowed. @spinster is women-centric in that everything we do here is geared towards women, and we put their needs first. However, we have no way to a reasonable way to check anyone's sex, especially with open registration. Think of it like Twitter - anyone can join. The difference is that we won't ban you for saying feminist things. This way, we can get our message out without being silenced.

@alex - our tech support - is also a man, and has been vital to the creation of this project. However if you'd prefer to deal with a female mod you can always talk to me instead - we get it!

We also hope to re-instate the group feature, which will enable the creation of separatist spaces. If you'd like a separatist space and are willing to wait for that feature, please stick around!"

DejaVulva · 13/08/2019 13:20

An event can only be treated as a hate crime if a crime has been committed and it can be proved that the crime was motivated by hatred.

So, no .. words on Spinster cannot be treated as a crime.

Hate incidents are being recorded and these are events that a person perceives [yes, perceives ] to be motivated by hatred. Currently some UK police service regions are treating reports of words in social media as such incidents, using the College of Policing guidance as the basis for making such records. This is why @WeAreFairCop is undertaking a Judicial Review of that CoP guidance.

LangCleg · 13/08/2019 13:21

It isn't supposed to be a female-only space, by the way.

Yes - it isn't female-only because they can't enforce it. It's intended to be primarily female and entirely female-centred, however.

Frankly, I take a dim view of the several males who signed up on the very first day and couldn't even let women find their feet.

Just because you can doesn't mean that you should.

hungryhippie · 13/08/2019 13:26

Agree with you LangCleg it's so entitled. If they do open a women only area, everyone should move to that area only and leave the men to the rest of the feed Grin

A couple of thoughts having had time to think about this.

First of all it isn't are replacement for twitter because even if you aren't part of twitter you can view posts and threads.

But as far as I know Spinster posts can only be seen by others who have signed up.

So although I think anyone who wastes their time of tweeter just shouldn't bother its as pointless as going to some strip club and trying to get the punters to think and behave reasonably, there is at least the benefit that those with gender critical views can be read by others. (The main value of twitter is the vain hope that mainstream media will pick up on some "twitter war" and amplify it, but this works against women as the media rarely reports pro women, let alone gender critical, tweets.)

this ability to publicly view posts is also one of the values of mumsnet talk (especialy FWR) as non members can read posts that represent gender critical views.

So it might be worth thinking what is the value of Spinster which doesn't have this public looking in aspect. Does it make it easier to plot and plan, or what .... ?

Please let me know if I am wrong about posts on Spinster not being viewable to non members.

But if I am right how should be make the most of this aspect?

Staffori · 13/08/2019 13:32

I agree the men should wait but I don't want to be in an echo chamber and wouldn't want to be part of a women-only thing because, frankly, my experiences of women-only online groups has been pretty terrible.

A Twitter where I can say what I like within reason and where people who repeatedly post seriously nasty stuff get banned would suit me.

GoodyMog · 13/08/2019 13:50

I'm liking Spinster so far, the communal timeline is so much more inviting, hoping it doesn't quieten down too much after the initial excitement

Amalfimamma · 13/08/2019 13:55

Staffori
No fake news. You should know by now I only speak when sure of something. 😏

DejaVulva · 13/08/2019 14:10

If a Spinster user chooses to make posts in Fediverse mode these can be read by anyone else in the world who is using any of the other servers that are linked to the server that Spinster is using.

There are two other modes: Home mode: means your posts can only be read by your direct followers.

Spinster mode: means your posts can be read by all Spinster users.
