Hello FWRs

Has anyone signed up to spinster.xyz yet? It’s like twitter but without the misogyny. No banning for stating biological truths. See you over there hopefully

Spinsters were cool. Women who could earn an independent living so didn't have to marry for financial security. We need to reclaim the word!

I've joined - it's like a breath of fresh not to have to self-censor and pretend to go along with an ideology I vehemently oppose.

I caved and joined despite being rubbish at new tech.

It's looking pretty good so far.

I think the problem is there isn't much there now, but what I have found:

After logging in click on home

Unless you have posted anything nothing will appear.

But underneath where it says what's on your mind click on Spinster

This shows most recent posts (I think!)

Click on fediverse and you can another selection of posts based on how spinster have set up their network(??!! I am sure someone more technical will explain what that actually means)

Use the search box on the tool bar eg searching for mumsnet didn't seem to bring up much, but searching for feminist/ism seemed to show groups that are feminist that have joined user names with feminist in.

Presumably as you decide to follow other users you will see more.

I have only joined out of curiousity as I dont like twitter but interested to see if this provides a positive space for women.

I think Spinster is a brilliant name. Back in the days of WLM there were badges you could buy that just said Spinster. You have no idea how many men were outraged that any woman would be proud to identify themselves as a spinster.

A bit like saying you are a witch.

To me it says independent woman.

What's the xyz - a recognition that women are three-dimensional?

I think the Fediverse links to other 'universes'. I might be wrong, still trying to work it all out.

I changed Browser, Saucery - that took me to a completely different sign up page, which worked immediately!

I went into my email, clicked the confirmation and it was all there. Username it said I couldn’t have, email it said was taken. Must have been a glitch.

I decided to join - but time is limited so unsure I'll be a prolific poster!

I'm in, but in my Twitter name rather than this name. Looks good so far...

Someone explained that spinsters were able to earn their own money selling their wool, so they had independent income and did not need to marry. So a spinster is a woman if independent means.

And it's filling up with women over there ... come on in.

This is exactly why terfblocker exists. So they can make sure no one who could be swayed will ever hear women. People who have never heard of the debate or who already think gender critical feminists are evil terfs won't soon go over there to learn. You'll occasionally get trolls, but fuck it. You can enjoy them on twitter. WHy leave?

Same with MN. Far better to talk about it hear with a signiifcnat percentage of the women of the UK rather than sing loudly to the choir.

I wouldn't even be surprised if we found out that this was made by TRAs to create a little ghetto for GC feminists where no one could hear them.

Except many of them weren’t leaving mainstream SM. The were being banned.

Also, TRAs hate women having their own space to talk. They won’t be loving this at all. It will be attacked again and again.

I think women can do more than one thing at a time.

I am being VERY cautious though. Different usernames to here and twitter, burner email, and not posting much. I am sure it will be a target.

TheGraysAreComing I think I see your point, but if women had stuck to using male dominated mediums to hold discussions we'd still be voteless and tied to our homes. There is a long history of women organising their own spaces. And a long history of men both questioning the validity of those spaces and trying to strongarm their way in to them.

No, they won't. Twitter has proven itself to be a friend of misogynists, it's written into their ToS
