Bunbury’s Public Service Announcement 3.1

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the first Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3438714-Bunbury-s-Public-Service-Announcement-2

Thread 3 was deleted with this note from MNHQ; We're sure there will be a Bunbury 4 around soon, but we'd be grateful if we could draw a line under the issues raised in this thread if there's to be a new one.

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the first posts on thread 2 (linked above) but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

There was a paper published recently showing that men can multitask as well as women.

The stereotype is therefore presumably born of the observation that many CBA to do so when it comes to housework and childcare.

TruthOnTrial · 31/08/2019 10:23

That's incredibly wise advice Bespin to not look at things that you don't like 😂

I imagine when they think about MN FWR now all they can hear is all the laughing going on over here. All the fun its giving us seeing them expose themselves for what they are.

The continued aggressive posting style, haha, our work is done

Bespin · 31/08/2019 10:25

The obsession some twitterers have with Spinster and FWR is most odd. Women speaking is such a threat, right?

you have been on spinster right it's all about twitter posts to such an extent at some poeple are not happy about it.

Shit, I think I'm a bloke!

(That's just a joke by the way. My children aren't feral. Yet)

JessicaWakefieldSV · 31/08/2019 10:29

No it isn’t 🤷🏾‍♀️ Not the people I follow. We’re discussing all kinds of important women’s issues, menopause, periods etc but obviously that wouldn’t be relevant to you so may be why you’re not seeing that stuff.

Bespin · 31/08/2019 10:31

JessicaWakefieldSV

no it would not be, so your right I'm not following them.

WhisperingInTheDark · 31/08/2019 10:59

Then maybe stop talking out your arse? Just a thought.

Bespin · 31/08/2019 11:00

WhisperingInTheDark

I'm sorry have I upset you in some way for you to make personal comments about me.

WhisperingInTheDark · 31/08/2019 11:03

Bahahahahaaaaaa

No need to scrape and bow, Bespin, but if you really must.

Bespin · 31/08/2019 11:06

WhisperingInTheDark

you are using quite an aggressive and entitled posting tone, are you a man? lol

JessicaWakefieldSV · 31/08/2019 11:07

I read that as more a comment on your actual words Bespin. You made a statement about Spinster based on a limited experience that would not be the same as women, who will be seeking out and following different accounts to you on a platform like that, set up to centre women and feminist discussion ( not limited to that but that’s the focus and intention ). Having a male person criticise and make statements that are not correct, doesn’t upset, it frustrates and annoys. Of course you won’t be enjoying it there Bespin, it wasn’t set up with the intent to address your needs or interests. Indeed it would be creepy for you to chat with us there about menstruation or menopause! That’s ok, not every platform or space will met the needs or be relevant to everyone.

I think you misunderstood I enjoy it on there, there are some interesting discussions, I totally agree it not all about trans, thank god as here is not either.

Bespin · 31/08/2019 11:32

I would not be on a platform i did not enjoy reading or interacting with, why would anyone.

Bespin you said it was all about twitter posts. I’m just making sure that falsehood doesn’t remain here and put women off joining. I love a platform that truly is dedicated to women and doesn’t ban anyone for stating biological facts.

LangCleg · 31/08/2019 11:44

The best thing about Spinster is the lack of disingenuity. I'm really enjoying that.

Bespin · 31/08/2019 11:48

JessicaWakefieldSV

other people have stated it in the spinster thread. I've seen some of it but I have also seen some great stuff too. as I have on here. I'm glad the platform exists and I hope it continues. one day the trans stuff will become less themain issue and I'm sure having such platforms will continue to be of use to highlight issues.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 31/08/2019 11:53

one day the trans stuff will become less themain issue

We can only hope that changes occur so that is definitely the case! As soon as everyone else stops ignoring women’s rights and needs and the biological sex differences are again acknowledged and laws around them protect women as they are meant to, it won’t be an issue! Society really should stop enforcing sexist gender stereotypes via trans ideology. I agree Bespin.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 31/08/2019 11:54

Me too Lang

I can’t read the message on Kate’s thread. Why was it shut down?

I seriously doubt that, Joss.

Jessica, I don't know, but Kate's thread may have been shut down because it's going to court. It was an old thread, bumped today with the MOS article.
