Jonny Best to be investigated for transphobia by Uni of Huddersfield

ArranUpsideDown · 02/08/2019 20:55

Some kind soul at University of Huddersfield has initiated a formal complaint against me for contravening the uni's social media and trans equality policies with my 'transphobia'. Here is the info passed to me today - note the attempt to smear me with mention of 'victimisation'.
...
But the worst crime I'm accused of is 'associating positively' with Glinner
Let me be clear: I will 'associate positively' with Graham for as long as he wishes to 'associate positively' with me.

Crimes of association. Stalin would be proud.

lucasthecat · 02/08/2019 21:08

Interesting and worrying reading - the false land illogical complaint under each of your ‘shocking tweets’ is that you say trans ideology should not be in academia - they interpret that as you don’t want trans people in academia - the reality is it’s the same as saying I don’t think religious beliefs should be enshrined in academia - and if they are I should be able to say I don’t believe in God / without fear of being thrown out of uni

nauticant · 02/08/2019 21:08

Hmm, I'm not sure where I'd put my money on a woke TRA trying to get a gay man denounced as a witch.

nauticant · 02/08/2019 21:14

Anyway, a cursory review shows this:

"I'm contacting you on behalf of a student who wishes to remain anonymous" ... "I could not go through much more without harming my own mental health..."

If you're going to write a fiction, keeping in character is necessary to avoid breaking the spell.

AnyOldPrion · 02/08/2019 21:27

This! It’s similar to “you want to erase us”. They somehow entwine their entire identity around their ideology, and if you refuse to believe, then you are violating their entire sense of self.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 02/08/2019 21:29

Can we write in support?

Best has always been a model of dignity, respect and clear thinking, as far as I've seen. Happy to write in his support, if someone could let me know where to send the email.

LoveGrowsWhere · 02/08/2019 21:33

The letter writer is probably a lgbtq+ rep with the students union hence the my own mental health reference.

Popchyk · 02/08/2019 21:36

Someone writing on behalf of an unknown student wants to remain anonymous. Hmmm.

Sounds like a member of staff who is putting forward this complaint on behalf of the unknown student, and adding in his own stuff like "positively associating with Graham Linehan".

It's unclear which complaints are the unknown student's and which are the member of staff's own complaints.

The person who put his name to this could find himself in a tricky spot because those words are libelous against Jonny Best. Who could choose to take action against the person who put his name to the complaint. "Mr. Best repeating his stance that that transgender people should not be in public institutions and children should not be taught about our existence". Jonny Best didn't actually say that; he said that transgender ideology should not be taught in schools.

Jonny, just be very careful of that 'fact finding' meeting. Be worth taking a rep with you.

littlbrowndog · 02/08/2019 21:40

Jeez. I follow Jonny on twitter. He is awesome.

Talented , clever clear thinking and lots of other stuff

Someone to admire

LoveGrowsWhere · 02/08/2019 21:40

Having read some of his articles I haven't seen anything about denying anybody's right to exist. Nor any attacks on individuals. More a call for respectful co-existence. I hope Huddersfield goes directly to supporting freedom of speech.

Imnobody4 · 02/08/2019 21:46

I don't know how they expect to gain support acting in this way. I bet The university will throw it out hopefully decisively. Jo Johnson is back as universities minister and he's clear about freedom of speech.

TheInebriati · 02/08/2019 21:50

Apparently they've never heard of Article 11, which promises freedom of assembly and association.

Tell me again how ''terfs are fash''.

FormerMediocreMale · 02/08/2019 21:51

Johnny if you read this Flowers

Sorry you are being put through this you have been great in fighting against this ideology. Good luck and make sure you take care of yourself while all this is going on.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 02/08/2019 21:51

Yep.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/08/2019 21:54

@JonnyBest posts here sometimes. He is a model of intelligence, thoughtfulness and humanity.

And as for 'I did see Goody Jonny atwittering with Glinner The Antichrist' I just despair.

littlbrowndog · 02/08/2019 21:58

It should be a; honour to be taught by someone like Jonny best. A fucking honour

Ffs

ZebrasAreBras · 02/08/2019 22:00

Oh ffs.

First James Dreyfus, now Jonny Best.

Ridiculous. Going after gay men just because they are not swallowing the trans mantra whole, and can actually see the threat to women's rights and children's health Hmm

pombear · 02/08/2019 22:03

In case he wanders past this thread, Jonny, I've used your 'What's gone wrong with Stonewall' article lots of times since you wrote it. It's clear, measured, and factual.

And I can imagine there a lot of people who don't like it for the above reasons, who will be gunning for you.

And how dare you wrongthing/associate positively with anyone on 'the list'. Struggle session anyone?

ArranUpsideDown · 02/08/2019 22:11

JB is a PhD music student on a scholarship to the Uni. of Huddersfield and he works as a music tutor etc.

It seems the Registrar's Office is handling the complaint. I'm not good at digging through Twitter threading so if someone can spot where letters should be sent, that would be helpful.

As I tend to post on the Best threads of FWR:

LassOfFyvie · 02/08/2019 22:47

Crimes of association. Stalin would be proud

Isn't it just. Regardless of one's position on trans gender issues this policing and controlling of ideas is terrifying.

LangCleg · 02/08/2019 22:53

Jonny Best - one of the kindest men on Twitter. How ludicrous.

Popchyk · 02/08/2019 22:57

"I could not go through much more without harming my own mental health"...

But here's 12 screenshots that I've personally taken the time to annotate with my own false interpretation of his words

And here's some links to stuff that he's published

And here's a link to somebody else calling him transphobic

And here's a long bit of guff about Stonewall bollocks

Idiot.

quixote9 · 03/08/2019 00:51

AnyOldPrion: "They somehow entwine their entire identity around their ideology, and if you refuse to believe, then you are violating their entire sense of self."

Well, if their entire identity is wound around a fiction and you refuse to believe the fiction, you are violating their entire sense of self.

But that isn't usually considered grounds for supporting delusions. That's the only thing that's new here.

As to the main point, re Jonny, I am so sad, upset, angry, the whole boiling, to hear that now they've upped the persecution on you!

WhatsNextMrsLandingham · 03/08/2019 00:55

"...associate positively with Glinner"

FFS, is this really where we're at now?

What does two plus two equal Winston? Angry
