"Transwomen have periods"

FairfaxAikman · 25/07/2019 18:12

A woke bloke I know posted this on FB.
Do I call it out or should I avoid wasting my energy?
I'm so bloody angry because it's based on a false understanding of how the menstrual cycle works but some of his female friends are so out of touch with their own biology they are, in addition to calling themselves cis, saying "wow, I didn't know that ".
However not sure I can face another pile on.

As an aside : and I don't want to derail the thread- are there TransMen who believe they can ejaculate? Because this appropriation of opposite sex behaviour seems to mostly run one way...

longtimelurkerhelen · 26/07/2019 17:09

When will the gender appropriation end? This way lies madness.

Bortusesmoustache · 26/07/2019 17:20

Here you go furrytoebean: www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/ius-intrauterine-system/
A small percentage of women stop ovulating with a Mirena coil, but ovulation continues for most. It is absolutely scary how little we understand this stuff, and the subsequent ideas that fill the void!

OhtheHillsareAlive · 26/07/2019 18:11

Has someone pointed out that transwomen don't take HR. That stands for "Hormone Replacement Therapy. They're clearly nOT replacing hormones as women are.

They are taking synthetic oestrogen. And I'd imagine that the dosage is not so complex and subtle as the mix of oestrogen & progesterone which is what most actual women have in their bodies, in varying amounts, ad cyclically.

Eaudear · 26/07/2019 19:01

Hope you're doing a lot better now flowers Eaudear

Thanks so much @TruthOnTrial yep am doing well now, long may it last fingers crossed!

Anecdotally, when I had the Mirena coil, I still bled every month, just a light bleed though. I felt a bit cheated because lots of people said their periods stopped on it, but not for me!

"If you called your dad he stopped the hormones and put on a suit you could stop it all"

I have the meriva coil thing. No periods. No cycle. No nothing. It's absolutely amazing. 🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾✊

FairfaxAikman, brilliant response. This whole nonsense is just so damaging and women being quietened about a biological process unique to them is an absolute disgrace.

I didn't know about the ketchup but I did read (on this board actually, I think) about frozen tomato juice. I fear for my daughter that she will have this additional set of creepy and dangerous weirdness to deal with.

FairfaxAikman · 26/07/2019 22:30

We have a like! A (different) female friend liked the second response!

transwomen don't take HR. Ive been getting confused about this (and other) language that seems to have been misappropriated.

Men do in fact have HRT, its called testosterone.

Its confusing to the poibt of incomorehensible when some medical journals wil discuss male het and mean T, whereas others apparently also talkibg medical knowledge will be talking about female hrt, yet about men.

Everything needs over-thinking and interpreting

StopThePlanet · 27/07/2019 02:34

I have brutal PMS and would love for someone to deal with it and next week's endometriosis pain/flow/etc. on my behalf. It would be super 😎 to enjoy my physical existence over the next 12days. I'd love to ride my bike as usual, exercise as usual, and not check for tsunamis every couple hours... I guess a girl can dream. 🦋 Instead I will be a secret personal warrior taking on the world with half the strength wearing a pleasant smile as my costume conveying comfort.

I have this very strong feeling that my short cycle paired with long stretches of pain and constant awareness of my intensified physical vulnerability would rock the trans out of any AGP/fetishist.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 27/07/2019 06:41

Yes, I went through a horrible time before I got my mirena. I was bleeding 3 weeks out of four due to the combination of fibroids and peri menopausal hormones! I was anaemic for 2 years.
When I flooded, I had to change my super plus tampon and nighttime sanitary towel every 20 mins for 3 or 4 hours at a time. And I regularly passed blood clots which were almost the size of my fist
It really affected my quality of life. I was scared to go out for the day, let alone go away on holiday, in case I had a heavy flow.
If only my periods had been a bit of bloating, cramping and eating chocolate.

FairfaxAikman · 27/07/2019 08:28

Comments haven't been deleted but woke bloke's silence is deafening.
He's attempted to debate on gendered brains so it's not like he's afraid to engage but it's almost like he knows he can't win on this one 😁

I bet woke bloke is really really insufferable.

Well done for fighting this nonsense

FairfaxAikman · 27/07/2019 08:45

Kat thing is he's sort of ok sometimes. He's "pro women's rights" but the problem is he fails to see the conflict with trans rights.

Result fair

Stuff you and your mansplaining wokey blokey

Bespin · 27/07/2019 09:05

sorry late to this thread, what a load of bollocks that is. we don't have periods, don't usually get pms as constent hormone cycle, we'll unless we forget and then can be a bit of a mess. but really really don't need people who think they know want it's like for us spouting shite about our lives as support for us.

Eaudear · 27/07/2019 09:06

Ah yes, one of those. A 'feminist' for virtue signalling purposes only. See also Little Owen Jones.

Oh I used to be with one of these. Retweeting everyday sexism and fully women's rights... but lying about getting private dances at strip clubs and joining his mates' whatsapp group dedicated to sharing pictures of one night stand conquests. Uuuuugh.

It was virtue signalling at its finest. Obviously he's an ex but if I see anything that gets him plaudits as a women's rights ally it takes ALL of me not to react!

ThatCurlyGirl · 27/07/2019 12:54

@FairfaxAikman

Oh and he apparently cheated on me because him earning less than me made him feel "emasculated".

But he (age 30 then and this is only 2 years ago) worked about 3 hours a day compared to my minimum of 10... my fault you cheated then yeah? Cool. Thank you, next.

God some people are arseholes aren't they! I don't think a lot of people see that women can't win. Not working is seen as lazy / working is seen as undermining / not breastfeeding is selfish / breastfeeding in public makes people feel uncomfortable...

Sometimes I just despair.

StrangeLookingParasite · 27/07/2019 13:01

I have the meriva coil thing. No periods. No cycle. No nothing. It's absolutely amazing.

I had a Mirena for a while. No periods, sure, but some really unpleasant psychological effects, some quite major. They disappeared instantly when it was taken out

DanaPhoenix · 27/07/2019 15:57

Thanks pp for your differing insights about experiences with the Mirena. I've been considering switching to this as I (think) I'm peri menopausal. Not really any major symptoms just a bit more moody and more heavy (but still regular periods) although the heaviness can cause lightheadedness. (I'm 48 my mother went through menopause in her 30's she's RIPso I can't question).

Voice0fReason · 27/07/2019 22:39

Such brilliant responses to this revolting notion.

plattercake · 27/07/2019 23:57

Great result Fair! Thanks so much for tackling this insanity. Its incredible and rage inducing that we have to, but we do and it is helping :)

puuuuuuuuuuull!

I'v also learned things from this thread re coil etc so thank you all for that too :)

sackrifice · 28/07/2019 09:51

You cannot get pms, which is Pre-menstrual Stress as you do not menstruate.
