I know people liked to claim that the Irish system was set up so this wouldn't happen but it was clear this was only a matter of time. Hope this wakes a few people up about the self ID system here.

Interesting framing. Is it this a single prisoner who is being given protective status by being accompanied at all times, or are the other prisoners, women, being protected from this sex offender?

RustyParker · 22/07/2019 07:25

I thought Ireland housed transgender prisoners according to their birth sex?

1984in2019 · 22/07/2019 07:27

This never happens

ludog · 22/07/2019 07:30

Aren't we a grand woke little country all the same?

LonginesPrime · 22/07/2019 07:30

I'd imagine they're doing it to protect the other prisoners, but it's more cost effective and sensible to keep security around the trans prisoner than to give every woman an individual security guard.

AlessandraAsteriti · 22/07/2019 07:33

'It was feared she would be attacked in the male prison.' Then why not give this sex offfender protective status in the male prison, rather than put the sex offender in the female prison and then provide protective status, when in reality what they are protecting is the female population in that prison against this sex offender?

truthisarevolutionaryact · 22/07/2019 07:41

Let's hope it gets plenty of publicity as the general public are always thrilled to hear about male born sex offenders / paedophiles being placed in a women's prison. Confused

FlapsMagazine · 22/07/2019 07:50

Sure so long as we're more Catholic woke than those heathens bigots in England, what could possibly go wrong?

Pudner · 22/07/2019 07:50

It will be interesting to see how this plays out on Irish Twitter. According to the Irish woke this would never happen and according to the rules this was not supposed to happen. Interesting too that Yaniv has not been discussed at all and the Minister of Women has been unusually silent in recent days.

EweSurname · 22/07/2019 07:54

“Currently undergoing a male to female transition” - so changing their name? Maybe growing out their hair? Seven words that could mean so many different things

Haven't seen much discussion of it on twitter (by Irish people apart from Glinner) but its been trending on boards.ie since yesterday morning (www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057998426). That threads actually where I first read about the prison story.

Well yes, of course they are, but I’m interested in the way it hasn’t been framed that way in any statement or the article. Clearly women need protecting from this male predator but even then people still tiptoe round with language.

Oh that is good that it is being discussed. I am not on boards so was not aware but was gobsmacked (not) that there was little or no mention on Twitter from the usual TRAs except for one person who called Ricky Gervais a sad and nasty man for his Yaniv tweet.

I don’t understand how there is money to pay for 2 guards to escort this Male prisoner, whilst in communal areas of the womens prison, yet they couldn’t facilitate that in the men’s prison?

Bonkers

Lordamighty · 22/07/2019 10:06

How long before he invokes human rights legislation to demand to be able to mix freely with the other female prisoners without extra supervision? He has got away with it so far so why not carry on pushing & pushing until he gets what he really wants?

Popchyk · 22/07/2019 10:09

"I don’t understand how there is money to pay for 2 guards to escort this Male prisoner, whilst in communal areas of the womens prison, yet they couldn’t facilitate that in the men’s prison?"

This.

Interesting that the male sex offender is not named. They usually are at the time of conviction.

If male sex offenders automatically get anonymity in the media if they claim to be transgender then every single sex offender is going to claim to be transgender.

That is pretty obvious.

AfterSchoolWorry · 22/07/2019 10:18

Fucks sake.

The only hope we have is if the Irish are less politely indulgent than the British have been to this nonsense.

AfterSchoolWorry · 22/07/2019 10:20

By that I mean the British Authorities of course, not the woman in the street.

FormerMediocreMale · 22/07/2019 10:27

So because one of the "sacred" is at risk in a mens prison they move them so that a whole prison full of women are at risk.

Well done Ireland for showing you give zero fucks about women.

Interesting also that after centuries of Catholicism the "sacred" trans are now the ideology in favour. All the wokesters will need to get on etsy and buy their trans prayer cards and bin the Mary ones. As an ex Catholic I'm all for dumping it, but in favour of this shit, really?

MrsSnippyPants · 22/07/2019 10:37

Just reading that boards.ie thread and came across this:

"Same is going on here up North with a middle aged man demanding to be let dress up in his tutu and do ballet lessons with little girls. And a lot more. Childrens ballet class teacher sued & usual hell breaking out. Its not just the insurance industry who are at fault. As one poster has said -when is common sense and basic human dignity and cop on going to click in"

Anybody have any more details?

FlapsMagazine · 22/07/2019 10:45

Anybody have any more details?

I must say I'm local, but haven't heard anything about that.

JackyHolyoake · 22/07/2019 10:45

I wonder how the women officers feel having to 'guard' this man who is a serial sex offender to protect the women prisoners from him?

He must be making their working life hell.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 22/07/2019 11:52

Popchyk, in Ireland sex offenders are usually not named to protect the identity of their victims. The option to waive anonymity is usually victim's, but there was a recent case where the offender tried to prevent the victim allowing them both to be named. I'll see if I can dig it out.
