I know people liked to claim that the Irish system was set up so this wouldn't happen but it was clear this was only a matter of time. Hope this wakes a few people up about the self ID system here.

Section 18.

"Where a gender recognition certificate is issued to a person the person’s gender shall from the date of that issue become for all purposes the preferred gender so that if the preferred gender is the male gender the person’s sex becomes that of a man, and if it is the female gender the person’s sex becomes that of a woman."

So there we have it. Gender = sex.

Mermoose · 23/07/2019 19:28

Seriously, who wrote that law? Is that normal legal speak? "the person's sex becomes that of a man" - it doesn't. Surely they can't just write a law that blatantly ignores reality?

Annasgirl · 23/07/2019 19:33

Dear God, I go to the beach for the day and this happens!!!!

And my dear woke Sis said I was exaggerating and that this would never, ever, happen and that all those lovely Transwomen she knows are so cuddly and I'm such a terrible radical feminist (as opposed to a wonderful liberal feminist).

Well, I too shall be emailing my TD but as I live in the next closest and most woke constituency to Grainne I won't hold my breath.

Annasgirl · 23/07/2019 19:35

Mermoose - thanks for that. Perhaps we could get the law overturned on review, I mean, a man cannot become any other sex.? But I will need to save for a few years ladies, unless I win the lotto.

Mermoose · 23/07/2019 20:02

I just emailed Regina O'Doherty who seems to be the Minister with responsibility for this (although it seems to have been brought in under Joan Burton).
I'm so angry about this. It's such bullshit.

Juells · 23/07/2019 20:04

@Mermoose I intended voting for PBP in the last election, but saw that they'd swallowed TWAW hook line and sinker.

@GrainneWail I'm in Rathdown too. I'm not a Fine Gael voter, but someone I know got very fast results when she went to see David Bailey about something. He holds a surgery (is that what it's called? Doesn't sound right) in Baker's Corner pub on a Saturday AFAIK.

I have a feeling they'll all be scrambling over each other to be more woke than the next one.

I haven't seen any party being sensible or even willing to hear both sides. Regina O'Doherty was virtue-signalling all over Twitter when that Prime Time discussion was on.

Which constituency?

Juells · 23/07/2019 20:14

Now that FF are out of office it might be worth contacting them? They have a huge number of rural voters who won't be too sympathetic. There isn't much else they can attack the government on at the moment, because of the Confidence & Supply agreement. This could be a cause for them, at the moment everyone is accusing them of being indistinguishable from FG.

CumannNamBan · 23/07/2019 20:23

Fine Gael brought this legislation in. All parties support it. 🤬

EweSurname · 23/07/2019 21:59

It’s Karen white!!! What the actual fuck

EweSurname · 23/07/2019 22:03

ITS not Karen white! Blush

Read too hastily

miri1985 · 23/07/2019 22:18

Anyone else finding the silence by the rest of the media in Ireland around this deafening?

So far the only places that seem to have reported this are the Sunday World and DublinLive. Where are the Times, Independent, Examiner, Journal etc. on this?

Any other prisoner being given a two person guard at all times would be reported on. I even checked the local paper in Dundalk and they don't seem to have covered the case when it was in the court regardless of the womens prison aspect.

Has anyone heard about it on the radio?

You're right...I just scrolled through the independent's front webpage.
Nada.

It's on the boards site either.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 24/07/2019 09:42

The fact that the media seems to be hamstrung in every country about this is so sinister.

I started another thread specifically about the Gender Recognition Act:

DublinCrone · 24/07/2019 18:38

@miri1985
I'm pretty sure this is the case, reported on local radio news back in Jan.
Notice the gender neutral description of the defendent (now convicted)

DublinCrone · 24/07/2019 18:40

The Yaniv thread on Boards has mentioned this case, and is still going. It's better when these discussions are not in the LGBT section on Boards. Their mods shut down any discussion of women's rights with regard to self ID. It's pathetic but they can't handle being challenged.

DublinCrone · 24/07/2019 18:53

Interestedly, I saw this article about LGBT-only student housing being made available in UL
www.independent.ie/irish-news/leading-university-launches-housing-aimed-only-at-lgbt-students-38326698.html

I wonder can you self-id into the accommodation? (student accommodation is often hard to find.) And I assume it's not mandatory. and that LGBT students would have access to all other housing as well.

miri1985 · 24/07/2019 19:22

Thanks for the link @dublincrone

Had a look on their website and from my search they never bothered reporting the outcome which is weird. Given that its silly season you'd think the media would be reporting every interesting story they could

Mods note in first post about Yaniv on the Irish Board Angry

Mod: We're getting a lot of reports about the misgendering, deliberate or otherwise, of Jessica Yaniv.

Whatever people's thoughts on the case at hand, how this person chooses to identify is their choice alone. Jessica Yaniv, whatever you might think of her actions elsewhere, chooses to identify as male-to-female transgender. Discuss the person's actions all you want, but from here on in, use the correct pronouns.

It's the precise language of the UK GRA from 2004. As lobbied for by transactivists such as Press for Change.
