I know people liked to claim that the Irish system was set up so this wouldn't happen but it was clear this was only a matter of time. Hope this wakes a few people up about the self ID system here.

I read the original Sunday World article and it said a judge in the Dundalk circuit court ordered the prisoner to be remanded in the women's prison last Monday (July 15)
The person has 10 convictions of sexual assault on a male child over a period of three years and one conviction for cruelty.
The article also claimed and that the two prison guards are for the protection of the transgender prisoner, to protect them from the women.

Apols for the stilted tone - at home with kids and multi tasking badly.

Thanks for that information, Dublin Crone.

The Irish Penal Reform Trust have been pushing for male offenders to be allowed in female prisons for a while. Looks like they got their wish www.google.com/amp/s/www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/irish-prison-service-slammed-not-12678191.amp

I've posted about this over in craicnet too..

Sounds to me like he'd need protection from the female prisoners. It's the prison with the highest number of assaults on staff.
www.dublinlive.ie/news/dublin-news/dochas-centre-most-dangerous-irish-13344315
It houses some very violent murderers.

notatwork · 22/07/2019 13:48

Putting a person who repeatedly sexually assaulted a child into a violent prison where most inmates identify as Mothers is likely to end in violence TBF if they don't put some protection in place.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 22/07/2019 13:59

Miri do you know who would be the proper people to contact about this? I'm guessing not local councillors?

Juells · 22/07/2019 14:11

When you consider how many perverts target vulnerable women to gain access to their children, where is the sense in allowing this man to share a space with women? Just imagine how lovely and nice and victimised he'll probably present as. 😡

Juells · 22/07/2019 14:21

Lordamighty
How long before he invokes human rights legislation to demand to be able to mix freely with the other female prisoners without extra supervision? He has got away with it so far so why not carry on pushing & pushing until he gets what he really wants?

I'd like to see him mixing freely with the Scissor Sisters, but I think they've been released. 😂

pachyderm · 22/07/2019 14:52

Most women in prison are in for nonviolent offences. They have a huge rate of addiction and mental health issues, and histories of childhood abuse, domestic violence and prostitution. They are one of the most genuinely vulnerable groups of people in society. I am beyond sickened at this. Yes, TRAs have been infiltrating the IPRT for years - Peter Dunne of TELI and TENI (not sure but I suspect another Stephen Whittle) on the case.

Fuck them, just fuck them.

CumannNamBan · 22/07/2019 16:32

I'd say Once it is worth writing to any politicians, even local ones. This is one way to feed back to the parties that the general public does not support this.

You can find your TD here www.dublinlive.ie/news/dublin-news/sex-offender-undergoing-male-female-16623261

Your local city or county councillors will be listed on those councils websites.

CumannNamBan · 22/07/2019 16:34

Ahh messed up the link www.oireachtas.ie/en/members/tds/

DuchessDumbarton · 22/07/2019 18:06

Is it just me or does anyone else feel slight trepidation at putting your head above the parapet to write to a TD about this.

My professional body has gone very woke talking about "men can be pregnant too".........

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 22/07/2019 18:31

DuchessDumbarton
I've no problem doing this but could do with a little help how to word it.I'll try get a start tonight but if anyone has any ideas how to word it I'm not great at letter writing.

GrainneWail · 22/07/2019 21:22

I live in the wokest part of tge country (rathdown) so, there's little chance of letters to my tds having any effect, but I'll send them anyway. I know from somw work campaigns that sending template letters isn't too effective (they get dismissed too easily) so if anyone does suggest l draft, please think about tailoring it if you feel you can.

beanaseireann · 23/07/2019 08:07

Why am I not surprised.
The justice system in Ireland is a joke.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 23/07/2019 10:28

Does anyone know if Resisters Ireland are on here?

VickyEadie · 23/07/2019 10:49

'It was feared she would be attacked in the male prison.' Then why not give this sex offfender protective status in the male prison, rather than put the sex offender in the female prison and then provide protective status, when in reality what they are protecting is the female population in that prison against this sex offender?

That was my very first thought.

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 23/07/2019 10:59

It's not like there's established protocol and systems in place for male prisoners (paedophiles) who are likely to be attacked by other male prisoners, is it? Hmm

This never happens.

Oh good luck. Although my local TD is Bríd Smith, I'd be amazed if she responds with anything but an explanation of what a terrible person I am.

pachyderm · 23/07/2019 12:22

Oncewas yes.

NewFoneWhoDis · 23/07/2019 12:49

I thought Ireland had exclusions to self-ID - namely prisons and female wards and so on?

This is NOT good. Pretty much every nonce will start to grow their hair in order to get into the Dochas which is much cushier than the wing of the mens prison where they are potentially a target for violence and when they get there continue to do what they do best - prey on women.

GrainneWail · 23/07/2019 18:21

I know it's been posted before, so sorry for asking, but I'm travelling and Internet is shit for googling... Does anyone have a link to the legislation on self id? I want to include references in my letter to tds for all the good it'll do. Tia.

JackyHolyoake · 23/07/2019 18:24

I think we all need to start asking all our politicians everywhere why they are being so blatantly dishonest!

We know they are lying. They know they are lying. We and they know that no man can ever be a woman and that no woman can ever be a man.

Why are they lying?

Gender Recognition Act (Ireland) www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/2015/act/25/enacted/en/html

S1naidSucks · 23/07/2019 19:12

Now that one has been let in, that’s opened the door for the rest of the creeps to get into female prisons. The Irish MRAs/TRAs must be rubbing their hands with glee.
