The logic of this decision is unclear to me. If generally in Ireland the practice is to house transgender prisoners according to their birth sex, which I have been led to believe it is, then why is this prisoner being given an exception from that? And a sex offender, no less? How is it fairer to house them in a women's prison under guard than a male prison under guard? Fairer to whom, would be the obvious question. It's certainly not fairer to the women who have to put up with this creep in their midst and have no way to escape.
The replies on the Irish Facebook thread are priceless. Full of, 'what about cis women who are sex offenders and who attack other cis women, what about them, eh? What about them??'
Yes, Aoife, 'what about them'? I have news for you, dear. The number of 'cis' women sex offenders in prison is probably small enough to house in a telephone box. The number 'cis' male sex offenders on the other hand, is, well, pretty much the entire sex offender prison population.
I wonder if these 'feminists' are deliberately being obtuse or if they really just have no idea about the difference between men and women when it comes to the propensity to commit crimes?
