I know people liked to claim that the Irish system was set up so this wouldn't happen but it was clear this was only a matter of time. Hope this wakes a few people up about the self ID system here.

If anyone wants to see the sorry state of Irish feminism, have a look at the replies to this OP raising a concern about the sex offender in the woman's prison m.facebook.com/groups/40786971590?view=permalink&id=10157372207521591

@CumannNamBan I keep telling people that we are in a much worse situation than the UK or even the US - we have literally got no one, not one person, who will stand up for women.

That thread was a depressing read. I despair. Sometimes I wonder will they even wake up when it is too late or is it an IQ issue? Or a critical thinking issue?

TheBeastAwakens · 29/07/2019 17:09

I can't bring myself to read that facebook thread, it's too depressing.

Ruth Coppinger has been queried and remaining resolutely silent. We really have no-one to speak up for Irish women and girls.

It seems that every single person on that thread [apart from Jean Cross] has zero understanding of sex and its basis in gametes.

They also seem to have zero understanding of anything related to sexual offences.

They also seem to have zero understanding of women who end up incarcerated in prison.

So, basically all the people in that thread are ignorant of basic facts about aspects of human life.

InionEile · 29/07/2019 18:28

The logic of this decision is unclear to me. If generally in Ireland the practice is to house transgender prisoners according to their birth sex, which I have been led to believe it is, then why is this prisoner being given an exception from that? And a sex offender, no less? How is it fairer to house them in a women's prison under guard than a male prison under guard? Fairer to whom, would be the obvious question. It's certainly not fairer to the women who have to put up with this creep in their midst and have no way to escape.

The replies on the Irish Facebook thread are priceless. Full of, 'what about cis women who are sex offenders and who attack other cis women, what about them, eh? What about them??'

Yes, Aoife, 'what about them'? I have news for you, dear. The number of 'cis' women sex offenders in prison is probably small enough to house in a telephone box. The number 'cis' male sex offenders on the other hand, is, well, pretty much the entire sex offender prison population.

I wonder if these 'feminists' are deliberately being obtuse or if they really just have no idea about the difference between men and women when it comes to the propensity to commit crimes?

That thread is an utterly dismal read.

That's what happens when people put being seen to publicly hold the correct views above all else, including above the safety of vulnerable and marginalised women.

It's surprising how cheaply they'll sell out their sisters.

They're women. They belong in a women's prison, with appropriate protection for other women. Is this person really arguing that because female sex offenders go to women's prisons, that male ones should also go to women's prisons? Because I'm failing to see any logic in that argument.

Annasgirl · 29/07/2019 19:26

@oldcrone, no it’s worse, they are arguing that because this person now identifies as a woman they should be treated like a woman in law. When I see the prefix “cis”I switch off.

CumannNamBan · 29/07/2019 21:49

Hi Anna and The Best, in some ways we are behind the UK, we already have gender self-id, we have no politicians speaking out, and have had no public GC meetings that I know of.

But then I think we are not totally voiceless, we have us. I think there seems to be less indoctrination of the general public here, no mass indoctrination in the schools yet, so this is an advantage there for now.

The chattering classes are pretending to buy into it, but we can win over the general public I think.

pachyderm · 29/07/2019 22:22

Omg that Facebook thread. The "woman" with the fake Irish name with all the fadas is actually a middle aged American TRA who ordered the "terfs out" letter. Someone who knows nothing about Irish women and our history but who thinks we can be told who gets to speak in our country. It is so cringingly embarrassing to see the chorus of handmaidens as they attack another woman on his behalf.
