Thread 1 here
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3632380-Fascinating-tweets-about-JY-s-waxing-case-Read-here-Thread-title-edited-by-MNHQ

This is a continuation of all that is JY and their waxing cases bought against minority women in Canada.

We are a fair way in, and still are no closer to knowing what the final judgment will be, but we have lots of info. and are finally seeing this case, and all the attending issues with self ID, in the public eye and main stream press.

(Blushes) coming from you Girl that's high praise. Enjoy your dinner.

From what I've read, Devyn Cousineau has a conflict of interest between maintaining the trans establishment and standing up for individuals who just by virtue of their circumstances, threaten it.

I'm expecting to see an extremely political decision that will primarily be about protecting the trans establishment while casting out the black sheep.

drspouse · 22/07/2019 12:06

I have not watched the videos but were they taken in court, is this allowed?

TurboTeddy · 22/07/2019 12:30

Filming or recording is not permitted in the hearing room unless you have permission.

Me too nauticant. I don't think DC can possibly allow JY any real 'win' here, but I expect damage limitation. And to dismiss as many on technicalities as possible. Second lady for example said she didn't travel out of area anyway, so one could argue the issue of discrimination doesn't apply.

fascinated · 22/07/2019 14:48

I really worry about Fiona Robertson. Honestly.

OvaHere · 22/07/2019 15:13

This the whole Fiona Robertson thread.

twitter.com/fionasnp/status/1152597331881209857?s=21

I fucking despair of people like this. Her argument seems to be it's wrong to say JY is not a woman because women are predatory too therefore JY is a predatory woman. Also we know that 'cis' men are the biggest group of predators but that has no relevance to JY because JY is a woman.

The stupidity and doublethink is unbearable.

fascinated · 22/07/2019 15:30

If he really says he told her he has a vulva they could potentially use that to find against him on the grounds that he misrepresented himself to the waxers.

fascinated · 22/07/2019 15:31

Re Fiona R. Indeed. Stupidity and doublethink. I despair. And in a position of responsibility! Seeking to represent other people!

fascinated · 22/07/2019 15:36

And even if some females are predatory: the behaviour will be very different in both nature and magnitude given the superior physical strength of males and their ability to impregnate. Also: two wrongs do not make a right.

fascinated · 22/07/2019 15:37

It’s internalised misogyny. It’s very strong here in Scotland, I am realising!

Do Intersex Men Have Periods?

  • @MRKHVoice The Blog of Claire Graham

“I’ve been asked to comment on some of the claims made by Jessica Yaniv in their recent British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal hearing (there’s some background to the case here for those not familiar with it), as well as other comments they have made in the past pertaining to being intersex.”

I am pretty shocked at how many people are defending JY, but then I have to remind myself that a lot of these people are in deep, and have to protect the mantra. Guess it’s along the lines of sunk cost fallacy.

Dana that clip is amazing. I can’t believe JY ‘outed’ Ogre like that - how rude! I’m sure if Ogre wanted everyone to know Ogre was also intersex Ogre would have told us. Opps.
I’ve checked twitter and it doesn’t appear the news has got out. Yet.

Just on a point of information, I noticed Elsie said Yanivs mum had misgendered her. I'm not sure she did. In the audio of corresponding tweets Mum repeats that JV is the "voice" of LBGT etc but it sounds like "boys", the accent makes it sound similar. Not a particularly important point all things considered!

Absolutely ridiculous amounts of latitude shown to JV. The member tells them to stop talking and they just carries on regardless. Loves the sound of their own voice! Particularly amusing at the end of him questioning his own mum and desperately trying to think of more ways to get her to talk about themselves "what's my.... Personality like?". Narcissus personified!

OvaHere · 22/07/2019 15:52

And even if some females are predatory: the behaviour will be very different in both nature and magnitude given the superior physical strength of males and their ability to impregnate. Also: two wrongs do not make a right.

What is even worse is in the 'research' Fiona used to back up her point the first two example were TW.

As Sarah Ditum pointed out to her you are using the fact that male pattern criminal behaviour is being recorded as female to prove that 'women do it too' in order to excuse the male pattern behaviour in someone you're desperate to pretend is a woman.

What a mess of gigantic proportions. I hope this woman is out of her job soon. She's not fit to be near a Women and Equalities role.

LangCleg · 22/07/2019 16:00

And Fiona continues to explore the intersection between Woke feminism and MRA talking points in defence of self ID...

... behold! An elected representative!

GirlDownUnder · 22/07/2019 16:05

Wow Shock she really needs to stop talking now.

I keep reading it, because I can't quite believe what she's saying, but every time I read it,it just sounds worse.

OP posts:
LangCleg · 22/07/2019 16:09

Her only route out of the cognitive dissonance is to say WOMEN DO IT TOO, thus completing the transformation to fully fledged MRA. I'd say it's pathetic but y'know... she's a fucking lawmaker. So it's fucking dangerous.

GirlDownUnder · 22/07/2019 16:24

Oppps!

What The Trans!? @WhatTheTrans
Who is Jessica Yanniv? She’s all over our feed and we can’t make sense of what the deal is.

First up to reply is the lovely Dr H...

Trans woman. Vancouver. Taking a cis beauty therapist to court after they refused to perform an intimate waxing procedure. Has gotten all kinds of negative media attention. It’s a case that is really not serving anyone’s best interests, nor is it helping from a PR perspective

Full thread of enlightening replies here:

And now whatthetrans has messaged JY direct for comment. No response yet, but if they get one it should show here:

Is that misgendering of a beauty therapist I see?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/07/2019 16:30

I’ve never heard of a gendered aesthetician. I would expect to be able to go into any spa/beautician/salon and get any treatment I want. So it just seems strange that JY is being refused imho Is Lydia trying too hard to make her point?

I've ONLY ever heard of beauticians who choose and take the training for the sex the decide they want to beutate!

I'd never walk into a barber shop and expect to get a graduated bob I could live with. Nor would I wander blissfully into a male grooming parlour and expect any of the staff to want to wax 'my lady garden' or even to have the training to do so - and yes, it is different, different product, different techniques.

GirlDownUnder · 22/07/2019 16:33

she's a fucking lawmaker. So it's fucking dangerous.

This whole thing is kinda blowing up because it’s being forced now by all the noise around JY. Even the TRAs who have been silent up to now (ie Harrop and co above) have been forced out of silence so I’m expecting there’ll be a massive push back and lots of doubling down on opinions.

Am I being a bit hopeful to think people like Fiona, and other law / policy makers can make all the noise they want (and hopefully peak more of the general public), but not be in a position to actually affect changes while the JY circus plays out?

From the twitter linked above, looks like their echo chamber mentality is going to be a problem as it seems they're not yet seen the poo tsunami heading their way.

I believe that she's a bit controversial anyway, even aside from this one issue, but it's so hard to tell as it's mostly rabid transphobes being nasty about her and everyone else avoiding an awkward subject.

Hahahaha

BickerinBrattle · 22/07/2019 16:43

It's as if these people have never had sex but have only ever played with crotchless Barbies and Kens.

They seem not to understand that genitalia are sex organs.

That forcing someone to touch another's sexual organ is sexual assault. They are suggesting the state step into the position of sexual predator.

It's like when they say "sex work is work" and somehow erase the "sex" component. Yes, all wage work is coerced work; that has LONG been the left's understanding of labour relations: the need for wages is the coercion. Therefore "sex work is coerced work." Therefore, in prostitution, "sex is coerced." The word for coerced sex is rape. Therefore, to legalise prostitution is to legalise rape.

OvaHere · 22/07/2019 16:50

I've just been googling waxing in my area.

It seems there are specific male services advertised (male therapist) and female only services.

There are larger salons that offer treatments to both but don't specify the sex of the therapist carrying out the treatment so they could feasibly employ male and female staff.

One of the large salons only offers chest and back waxing for men and has this disclaimer so I'm guessing the therapists are probably female.

Please Note
We do not do intimate male waxing and we operate a chaperone policy so that staff are not alone in the building with someone they don’t know. This means that if you are a new customer we may not be able to accommodate you at short notice.

I also noted that one of the larger salons has warning in the male massage section that says 'No extras so please don't ask' - clearly this is a common occurrence. It should be noted there is no such warning on the female page for the same massage!

It all seems rather sensible and there is somewhere for everyone to go to receive a service (unless you are a vexatious individual who seeks validation at the expense of others).
