It's International Non Binary Day

So Twitter tells me.

I see posts from people I can vaguely understand are non binary but am totally confused by many posts of people presenting very much in line with the sterotypical gender related to their sex and saying they don't all use 'they' pronouns. So what the hell is non binary about them?

Genuine question and not intended to be goady. I don't get it. Well, I get that it might appeal to someone trying to be something other than ordinary.

None binary Do not fit gender norms but accept that gender norms are truth, fundamentally driven , innate so you are therefore odd if you do not fit them

Contrast with

Gc do not fit gender norms but do not accept that gender norms are truth, fundamentally driven, innate, so therefore you are normal if you do not fit them.

Doyoumind · 14/07/2019 15:28

I get that but there a lot of people (mostly young women) saying you don't have to be androgenous or 'they' and posting pictures of themselves as dress and make up wearing women Hmm

It’s utter narcissism and attention seeking. And an excellent way for woke blokes to be able to call women TERFs and demand lesbians sleep with them.

OrchidInTheSun · 14/07/2019 15:31

It's a way for heterosexual people to feel special and victimised

BickerinBrattle · 14/07/2019 15:40

Non-binary exists to create a new binary: those who are non-binary and those who aren’t demanding their individual subjectivities be privileged in a neoliberal, market-based political system over the material realities of the sex-based oppression of the female sex class who are the means of reproduction in a capitalist society that requires the reproduction of consumers and workers to further the continued expansion that are the raison d’etre of capitalist economies.

Imnobody4 · 14/07/2019 15:48

According to Stonewall:
Two in fve LGBT people (39 per cent) who identify as
non-binary have experienced a hate crime or incident because
of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity in the last
year compared to one in fve LGBT people (19 per cent) who
identify as male or female

Being non binary has obviously won the victimhood prize.

Doyoumind · 14/07/2019 15:48

Thanks Bickerin!

Maybe I'm old but they are either gender conforming or gender non conforming and it doesn't make them special. How do the LGBs put up with this nonsense alongside real life issues?

OP posts:
Doyoumind · 14/07/2019 15:50

Imnobody that's because someone has dared to call them he or she instead of they, which is a particularly and literally violent crime.

It is logically impossible to be non-binary if there isn’t a binary to define non-binary against, thus creating another binary.

MIdgebabe · 14/07/2019 15:52

Well they could be gender different without it being how they look. Perhaps they are good at phsyics and like cricket?

AlwaysComingHome · 14/07/2019 15:53

How is non-binary a sexual orientation?

Who the hell are they oriented towards?

Doyoumind · 14/07/2019 15:58

It seems to be all encompassing.

I'm concerned women who would have been called butch lesbians in the past identify as NB as it's kind of easier.

Some people simply look trans but perhaps it's only a part time thing. I just don't understand why it needs a label or a day.

Alpha-Centauri

DpWm · 14/07/2019 16:01

It's nonsense.
A male non-binary person is male
A female non-binary person is female.
The human race has a sex binary, get over it.

BickerinBrattle · 14/07/2019 16:01

Responding to Always

DpWm · 14/07/2019 16:03

Oops calling us "the human race" is racist.
I just meant "humans"

HappyPunky · 14/07/2019 16:05

If non binary people are under the trans umbrella but get their own day, why isn't there a genderfree day?

LangCleg · 14/07/2019 16:06

How can you all be so dismissive when there are works of stunning art created around this historic day?

Bespin · 14/07/2019 16:11

Well gender free people could always support there non binary friends, or they can always orginise there own day if they really want one. I would imagine Truely gender free people would have a lot to talk about with non binary people if you are both not seeing the traditional binaried system in the way most people do. So I'm sure a lot of people on here are supportive of non binary people and welcome this day.

shepcountthebloodysheep · 14/07/2019 16:14

Can somebody explain this please:

'i’m a genderless trans man'

CantspellWontspell · 14/07/2019 16:16

Because there are boring old “normal” people and mysterious special people but they are indistinguishable by sight so we need a label for them.

I would have gone for Narcissistic Bores but apparently Non-Binary has a better ring to it.

Pot-ay-toes, Pot-ah-toes.

HappyPunky · 14/07/2019 16:17

Bespin genderfree people don't have a gender identity at all and get hate from other people who are under the trans umbrella because of it.

Bespin · 14/07/2019 16:20

that's fine, non binary people did get a lot of hate from binary people in the trans community for quite a number of years but people learned and understood more and And became more excepting.

Doyoumind · 14/07/2019 16:22

I think I've said it here somewhere before but it's the concept of 'coming out' that is so mystifying and seems offensive compared to lesbians and gays who really have to come out. "Hey Mum and Dad, I'm going to wear gender non-conforming clothes. Please support me in this."

OP posts:
wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 14/07/2019 16:23

Accepting of what? Non-binary is utter guff.
