Police called to National Theatre to deal with gender critical feminists sitting on chairs

twitter.com/DadRogd/status/1147181198231429124 has picture of the unfortunate police officer sent to investigate.

Earlier in his tweet thread he says:

National Theatre Green Room bar just refused to serve us. Their grounds? Allegedly, we are a political group with views a member of staff finds offensive. So they offend a dozen customers instead.

Problem is apparently with t-shirt worn by Anne Ruzylo sporting a dictionary definition of a lesbian. As someone else has pointed out the NT is in breach of the Equality Act, given that sexual orientation and sex are both protected characteristics. I wonder how this will play out.

Well, honestly, having met a number of the women involved, and been thoroughly convinced of their genuine and generous passion for women and girl's rights and safety, I never had a moments doubt that they did anything but ask to be served while lesbian.

But (and I appreciate that JanesKettle is not bringing this up in bad faith) the fact that the protest and the later social visit to another venue is being linked is obviously an attempt to obfuscate the extremely clear fact that the NT has quite happily discriminated against lesbians because one of their staff is bigoted enough to feel unhappy if they are near lesbians.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/07/2019 06:59

Social experiment; what would happen if exactly the same words were on a rainbow t shirt with sequins on it?

Genuine question. Same re adult human female.

A Facebook ad keeps popping up for some t shirt company pushing feminist slogans; many are actually quite feminised in style.

I genuinely think it makes a difference to some people. That 'bum boy' is acceptable is gross.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/07/2019 07:02

And I absolutely agree this need to go legal.

I'm trying to work out if there were any questions relating to anything LGBT on any questions last night as Julie Bindel was on and the phone in today would be a good opportunity to raise awareness of what happened.

TheBigBallOfOil · 06/07/2019 07:04

I am not a lesbian, but if anyone were minded to organise a mass trip of ladies wearing these t shirts to said venue, and were prepared to accept an impostor, happy to lend support.
NT - won’t be spending my money with you again.thanks for letting us know what you are.

HeronLanyon · 06/07/2019 07:10

bigballofoilNot sure what the reaction would be if imposters were to publicly identify as such. Would a member of staff feeling threatened by ‘a lie around self identifying’ find that so close to the bone that you too would be refused service and the police called ?
Or perhaps you would be welcomed - a lie seemingly in these mad days being better than the truth !!

TheBigBallOfOil · 06/07/2019 07:12

Who knows?
I’m really not sure whether the fact that in 2019 we are having to demonstrate for other women’s rights to be same sex attracted makes me want to cry, or throw up.

upthine · 06/07/2019 07:14

So the real story is "transwoman hates lesbians". That's a male who wants females-who-fancy-females to include them. And the employer says "go nuts! Treat them like scum!" Rather than "get someone else to serve them and do your job".

What the fuck world are we living in.

I bet they're monitoring this thread - so just to say shame on you. If you 100% believe that female lesbians should accept male cock because the male wants it, you are homophobic and sexist. If don't believe it, then wake the hell up.

Lumene · 06/07/2019 07:16

The National Theatre refused to serve a lesbian? And the press office knew about this and advised them to do it?

Wow.

SophoclesTheFox · 06/07/2019 07:17

What a muddle the NT have got themselves in to.

Bad enough that they called the police in the first place, but then doubling down by reaffirming that yes, they did indeed mean to get the police to eject a lesbian for being a lesbian because that upsets trans people...

Oh dear.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/07/2019 07:21

So the real story is "transwoman hates lesbians".

I believe from twitter it was a woman who refused to serve

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/07/2019 07:22

According to this tweet

Police called to National Theatre to deal with gender critical feminists sitting on chairs
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/07/2019 07:41

Not sure it's been noted on this thread but a bloke who was with them was served. It was only the women refused service.

And said bloke was wearing a "bum boy" t-shirt.

ChattyLion · 06/07/2019 08:01

yesterday’s Stonewall teacher’s conference venue and the protest location advertised and pictured here in Anne Ruzylo’s tweets- mobile.twitter.com/sargesalute

  • is outside County hall now a conference centre on the South Bank next to the London Eye and opposite the Houses of Parliament across the river.

The National Theatre and Coin street coop is a few blocks away further up the river on the far side of the massive South Bank Centre complex away from the protest.

So not the case that (peaceful, non threatening) protestors with placards picketing outside a venue then entered that same venue to try to have a drink in there and had the police called because the venue had reason to fear trouble from them in any way.

Hopefully some mainstream media coverage will clarify all this but from Twitter it looks very much like the words on a t-shirt worn by a lesbian woman- were exactly what this shocking example of discrimination and ludicrous waste of police time revolves around. Shock

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/07/2019 08:08

So if I had a T-shirt with the dictionary definition of tran on it I would be...?

TurboTeddy · 06/07/2019 08:13

ChattyLion

Thanks for the clarification. There's so much misinformation being spread about the protest and the incident at the NT. I saw one tweet in support of the NT claiming that one of the protesters was "a notorious, violent transphobe". I'd like to take comfort from knowing if you have to resort to lies then you know your position is weak but unfortunately the lies do seem to be quite effective propaganda.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/07/2019 08:23

Interesting tweet from Julian Vigo (a woman for clarification)

Police called to National Theatre to deal with gender critical feminists sitting on chairs
Aspley · 06/07/2019 08:32

What concerns me is that this was all very middle class and whilst offensive and upsetting, thankfully no one was likely to get hurt.

I was thinking earlier about what might happen if this was a lesbian couple targeted, in a less salubrious part of town.
I am genuinely afraid of being LGBT spaces now in case I am exposed as a terf (terf being anyone who is an actual penis-free lesbian) it's frightening how intolerant and homophobic some LGBT people are being.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 06/07/2019 08:36

I'm not on Twitter but have emailed to express my concern at their misogyny and bigotry.

This person tried to phone, here to discuss their concerns but didn't get very far 🤔

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 06/07/2019 08:37

X-post with Neurotrash.

FormerMediocreMale · 06/07/2019 08:53

Moamartinson

Thanks, email sent.

Datun · 06/07/2019 08:58

I hope this story runs and runs.
Even if it was because they recognised them from the protest, their belief (the gc lesbians) is protected.

I don't think you can refuse to serve someone based on their belief.

Let's bloody have it. Let's have the reason why lesbianism is offensive.

Just like most people don't realise the majority of transwomen keep their penises, they're going be utterly gobsmacked that Stonewall is endorsing homophobia.

Let's hear how Stonewall is breaching the equality act. Let's hear it how they are now critical of their own reason for being.

ChattyLion · 06/07/2019 08:59

Aspley agreed very worrying. Need to give this maximum exposure for that reason.

ChattyLion · 06/07/2019 09:02

YY Datun

LangCleg · 06/07/2019 09:05

I really hope this goes legal - if Anne has the time, money and energy to spare.

OvaHere · 06/07/2019 09:07

I'm fairly sure a crowd justice fundraiser would work well for this situation.
