Police called to National Theatre to deal with gender critical feminists sitting on chairs

twitter.com/DadRogd/status/1147181198231429124 has picture of the unfortunate police officer sent to investigate.

Earlier in his tweet thread he says:

National Theatre Green Room bar just refused to serve us. Their grounds? Allegedly, we are a political group with views a member of staff finds offensive. So they offend a dozen customers instead.

Problem is apparently with t-shirt worn by Anne Ruzylo sporting a dictionary definition of a lesbian. As someone else has pointed out the NT is in breach of the Equality Act, given that sexual orientation and sex are both protected characteristics. I wonder how this will play out.

And so took this rather self indulgent step.

Tanith · 09/07/2019 19:54

Disagreement does not equal pissed off people here, I hope. We're all grown ups and we can discuss and challenge without literally dying all over the boards.

tobee · 09/07/2019 20:02

Well, exactly. That's why I wanted to test the waters.

I expect most of us have come across threads on other boards, about the state of Mumsnet these days. People directly mentioning the FWR boards as people being "hounded off" if you disagree. I always think that that is rubbish. And people don't like hearing the truth and so leave.

So, I thought, this thread is perfect opportunity to disprove what other people might say about these boards.

Anyway, bit self indulgent. And people here don't have some kind of homogeneous view.

welcome back tobee Smile

FormerMediocreMale · 09/07/2019 22:32

I received an email after my complaint with the same statement that has already been posted. I replied back that considering their inconsistent story and seeing videos that no I was not in the least bit reassured.

PencilsInSpace · 09/07/2019 23:32

I can't believe NT are still going with the placard excuse.

They look ridiculous enough already with their ever-changing litany of contradicting 'reasons' for refusing to serve a group of well-behaved middle aged and older women, but to plug on so relentlessly with such an easily disprovable claim is ... well, I'm lost for words.

PencilsInSpace · 09/07/2019 23:33

Shart-goblins.

That's a word.

WeirdWoman · 09/07/2019 23:59

Are the women taking legal action?

PencilsInSpace · 10/07/2019 00:04

I do bloody hope so.

BatShite · 10/07/2019 00:25

Definitely not pissed off..I like people disagreeing with me as a general rule. Cannot argue with myself Smile

tobee · 10/07/2019 01:38

Cheers thanks @BernardBlacksWineIcelolly and @BernardBlacksWineIcelolly Smile

tobee · 10/07/2019 01:57

@BatShite I meant Blush

tobee · 10/07/2019 02:01

I mean both @BernardBlacksWineIcelolly and @BatShite. Ffs. Sorry

2BthatUnnoticed · 10/07/2019 03:28

Anne on the off chance you read it - I will donate to any crowdfunding if you decide to take legal action. You have much support. Maybe it would set a precedent that women are in fact, allowed to be lesbians in public.

SeaRabbit · 10/07/2019 05:05

I emailed NT on Saturday as a concerned regular patron. I've heard nothing so have just sent a reminder.

HeronLanyon · 10/07/2019 06:53

I emailed on Sunday. Have also had no reply. Will pursue.

Tanith · 10/07/2019 07:08

They seek them here, they seek them there;
The National seek them everywhere!
Under table, over chair -
Those placards could be anywhere!
My eyes are dim, I cannot see
Those placards of controversy.
They’re not in film, nor by the by.
NT: you surely do not lie?

beagadorsrock · 10/07/2019 09:09

just seeing this - I distinctly remember being begged for money by the Guardian because otherwise it became impossible for them to do 'proper' journalism a la Cambridge Analitica story. But that article is all but 'proper journalism'. I might have to write to them that if that's the standard, they need to maintain it across the board, not just on the issues that they like.

barelove · 10/07/2019 09:16

You could also confirm that if the same women came back today or tomorrow wearing the same T-shirts, would they be served?

Brilliant! They'd be hoisted by their own petard Datun Grin

LangCleg · 10/07/2019 09:30

I emailed on Sunday. Have also had no reply. Will pursue.

Also me.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 10/07/2019 11:29

Or hoisted by their own placard ...

(sorry)

I emailed on Sunday. Have also had no reply. Will pursue.

It seems they are responding to complainants with a standard response, which has been added to the bottom of Maria's blog.

I am not very technical but here is GilesCoren in Tuesday's Times. He isn't taking it massively seriously but at least it is mainstream coverage.
