Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Police called to National Theatre to deal with gender critical feminists sitting on chairs

twitter.com/DadRogd/status/1147181198231429124 has picture of the unfortunate police officer sent to investigate.

Earlier in his tweet thread he says:

National Theatre Green Room bar just refused to serve us. Their grounds? Allegedly, we are a political group with views a member of staff finds offensive. So they offend a dozen customers instead.

Problem is apparently with t-shirt worn by Anne Ruzylo sporting a dictionary definition of a lesbian. As someone else has pointed out the NT is in breach of the Equality Act, given that sexual orientation and sex are both protected characteristics. I wonder how this will play out.

It's totally bonkers that someone who is an actual lesbian with a t short stating what a lesbian is, can be refused to be served.

And on the 50th anniversary of stonewall.

AncientLights · 05/07/2019 19:22

Interestingly, there's a pic on FB of the wearers of the offending T shirts next to a man with 'bum boy' on his T shirt. Now that I do find offensive in a public place. Oh, he got served and not thrown out.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/07/2019 19:28

This has got daily Mail sad face written all over it, hasn’t it?

HandsOffMyRights · 05/07/2019 19:33

Can you imagine the furore if a group of gay men wearing 'homosexual' T-shirt were treated like this? There'd be an outcry from Jones and Tatchell.

The misogyny and homophobia is blatant here - but that's OK as they're just women...

CharlieParley · 05/07/2019 19:36

FYI, the t-shirt Anne is wearing does not say

lesbian
female homosexual

it says

lesbian
women who love other women

As this contains no reference to biological sex and adherents to transgender ideology believe that "woman" refers to a gender identity rather than a sex designation, the staff cannot even claim that "everyone knows this is a transphobic dog whistle phrase".

So, they refused to serve a group of customers because a staff member disagrees with the presumed view of said group.

The highest court in the land has confirmed that this is illegal discrimination (the Asher case). Although the court found in favour of the Ashers, the judges actually stressed this in their judgement.

(For anyone who needs a refresher - the Ashers won their case because they cannot be forced to manifest a belief they do not share by icing a message on a cake that supports gay marriage. They did not however refuse to serve the gay couple who wanted to order that cake altogether. If they had done so, they would have lost their case.)

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 05/07/2019 19:52

I really hope Anne takes this further.

I'd love to hear their defence?!

placemats · 05/07/2019 19:54

That's homophobia right there! Why wasn't the National Theatre and the staff questioned by the bobby on the bike?

I mean, apparently it's not safe to walk the streets of London now. So obviously the police are so scared they go to this. Homophobic, hate crime!

placemats · 05/07/2019 19:57

The political view that lesbians aren't men (which is what that T-shirt is alluding to)

It's not alluding to that though.

Lesbian: women who love other women.

EverardDigby · 05/07/2019 20:11

New public order offence, being a lesbian out in public. I'm sure a crowdfunder for this would be very popular.

dancingcamper · 05/07/2019 20:26

I said "alluding to" as I understand that people will see my woman adult human female hoodie and know I am a gender critical feminist.

Aspley · 05/07/2019 20:26

It does seem to be fair game on lesbians right now doesn't it. This is the third time I can think of in just the last few months that lesbians have been targeted (presumably by the trans lobby) yet it is the trans community doing the most public complaining about being 'erased'.
Then there were the attacks (one physical, the other verbal) on Joanna cherry and Julie Bindel.
Yet Stonewall have done nothing in any of their defence.

fascinated · 05/07/2019 20:30

Horrendous!

This has been withdrawn by MNHQ at poster's request.

WelshMoth · 05/07/2019 21:32

Yes it is.
Said person who kicked up stink either recognised the wonderful Anne Ruzylo and/or they presumed that the t shirt she was wearing was a political
statement alluding to the very uncontroversial 'Woman:
Adult Human Female' and got
on their high and mighty horse.

Given that the slogan was a
simple explanation of what a
Lesbian is, I'd say that the National Theatre are on very dodgy ground here. Very dodgy indeed.

MadamBatty · 05/07/2019 21:36

Where are their husbands? When are they going to give up this lesbian nonsenses & go home.

Women know your place

MadamBatty · 05/07/2019 21:39

Next we know they’ll be sitting on chairs &’eating pizza. We can’t be having that now lads

loveyouradvice · 05/07/2019 21:44

How??????

How??????

How?????

I cannae believe this

HeronLanyon · 05/07/2019 21:45

If I were to post
‘I am a woman who loves women’ would i be banned from mn?

CraicMammy · 05/07/2019 21:48

Presumably if the NT found the t-shirt offensive, it is because they have an alternative view of what a lesbian ‘is’. I wonder what it is, someone should ask.

Apollo440 · 05/07/2019 22:01

Ok so when are we all going to roll up en masse wearing the offensive shirt. They can't be allowed to get away with this.

TurboTeddy · 05/07/2019 22:15

Does anyone remember the story about the woman asked to leave her local pub for wearing a "woman" t shirt. I think she went back with 15 friends similarly dressed and they spent ages there but not spending very much, maybe the National would benefit from the same treatment.

Imnobody4 · 05/07/2019 22:16

I do hope she takes this further. It's Pride month ffs. I can't express how shocked I am that this has happened a National Theatre which is a bastion of free expression no longer apparently.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 05/07/2019 22:19

So the cops were called because a member of staff was offended by that T-shirt? A woman being all lesbian at them?

I look forward to the Pink News article condemning this lesbophobic behaviour.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/07/2019 22:20

Who has the spreadsheet? Another one to add...

I’m going to get some of those t-shirts and send DS and his (male) mates along to that bar - all wearing them. Heads will explode!

HeronLanyon · 05/07/2019 22:21

I am emailing them tomorrow. It is truly truly shocking.
I also live close-by and could swing by wearing said t shirt (would need to get hands on one don’t want it to be scrappy protest hand written job).
