So the story of the child who stuck to his guns and argued that there are only two genders, ( I’m thinking read sex here.) and recorded the conversation with the member of staff who argued that “not all policies are scientific.” Has now been permanently expelled according to twitter. Wtf. I’m sure the school will say hi him can’t have children recording staff. God forbid the outside world might know what kids are being indoctrinated into.

Mockers ok I have checked a bit more and under Scots law it basically depends on the legal circumstances as to whether you are counted as a child at 16 or 18. They gain legal capacity (with some limitations) at 16.

In addition, the Local Education Authority (in Scotland) does not have to provide education post 16 once a young person has left the school roll. So I guess this individual will have to try and get a place in a further education college.

Living in the Mearns will make it more tricky than if he were in Edinburgh or Glasgow

OvaHere · 03/07/2019 16:02

That Twitter feed!

I've scrolled back through quite a way on that feed and it's a mix of stuff, some of which I think is fine for a UK school, retweeting other schools, stuff around disability and education and LGBT stuff (some of which is okay)

But then you get the overtly Queer stuff plus retweeting a number of questionable orgs like Mermaids and Gendered Intelligence.

Theres also Canadian/US focused stuff such as criticism of Homeland Security and Immigration. Fine sentiments maybe but of no relevance to a Scottish high school.

As Zebras said above it seems that some people are given a remit to run an organisations social media and either become over invested and run it like a personal twitter feed or it's a deliberate move because they feel strongly that the organisation requires 'queering' as we saw with No Outsiders.

If his fundraiser and parents between them can scrape enough money Lathallan private school near Montrose might be his best bet if the state schools refuse him. They run a bus from Laurencekirk. Expensive though and awful he can't just remain where his friends are.

”In the interview, the boy said the issue first came up in class when they had been asked to sign up for a website and the teacher pointed out there were only two gender options.”

“He basically started going off on a tangent about how bad that was and how old fashioned it was”

This part horrifies me. I had assumed this was a teacher who had been pushed into teaching gender ideology classes and was frustrated by it and took his frustration out on Murray, who had made the class even more difficult to teach by inserting logic.

But no! The teacher raised the topic in an utterly unnecessary fashion, at a time when the students were logging in to a website, presumably to study. So that suggests he’s really bought into the ideology, despite being far from young and naive.

I just don’t get why.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 03/07/2019 16:50

I scratch out gender and write sex on forms when I can and either refuse to answer pr tick the ‘don't know/ don’t want to say’ box of I have to.

My sex may very well matter in some instances, but I can’t see how my feelz or choice of attire matters a jot.

2Rebecca · 03/07/2019 16:52

The teacher is a Guidance Teacher as well, so is supposed to have experience in listening to pupils and giving objective advice! I wonder if he's the one running the queer theory orientated twitter account for the school.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/07/2019 16:54

'So that suggests he’s really bought into the ideology, despite being far from young and naive.

Because bullies gonna bully and this is an easy vehicle.
He just picked the wrong victim this time but I bet he regularly gets a kick out of making kids back down.

A woman recently filmed a man masturbating on a train next to her and she got a higher fine than him

FormerMediocreMale · 03/07/2019 17:23

Murray seems a bright lad, he had half hour to think about the situation and chose to record the incident. So chances are he knew there was going be an interesting exchange as he knew the teacher well enough.

So is the teacher a known bully or is he known to support queer theory and the one who runs the Twitter account? From news articles it may be the latter, Murray doesn't approve of the trans ideology indoctrination and knew there was a good chance of gaining evidence of that?

2Rebecca · 03/07/2019 17:33

Actually looking at the twitter account pictures I suspect it's RE teacher Vicky McGillivray who runs the twitter account. When my so did PSRE or whatever it's called 5 years ago gender issues and sexuality stuff were just a tiny part of the syllabus though. I think that Twitter account is being misused for a personal hobby horse. PSRE is supposed to be for discussing issues not being brainwashed

Needmoresleep · 03/07/2019 18:06

I think you are right. There is a tweet last summer about predictive text with her name in.

This twitter feed is clearly associated with the school. The way it is run is unprofessional.

MockerstheFeManist · 03/07/2019 18:21

There are provisions in Scots law that give rights analogous to adulthood to 16 and 17 y/o's. Whatever the case with this, UK law will always take precedence where there is a conflict, specifically the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by the UK Parliament, which we must assume an independent Scotland would also ratify.

Regards Murray, I think you can still go to university in Scotland at 17 (?) and it would be lovely if he got an offer.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 03/07/2019 18:46

He could have applied to uni this year but is unlikely to have done so if he were expecting to spend another year at school. If you got good results in this year’s Highers he might have enough to apply without another year at school.

LassOfFyvie · 03/07/2019 19:05

In UK Law, a child is anyone under 18

No it isn't. Scots law is different. There are various ages where responsibilities and rights are acquired. E.g you can get leave home and get married without parental consent at 16.

You can go to university from age 16. Many Scottishstudents will still be 17 in freshers' week, and might not turn 18 until after the new year. A few may be 16, as it's possiblegetauniversityplace without doing a 6th year and children might only be 16 after the completion of 5th year.

This is because we do Highers in 5th year and many courses (especially the heavyweight ones) require 5 or 6 good passes in one sitting- i.e 5th year. Children will be 15/16 or 16/17 in the 5th year of school. 6th year for many pupils is an optional extra as many will have been awarded unconditional offers on the basis of their 5th year results.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 03/07/2019 19:09

I was offered an unconditional place when I was 16 but stayed on the extra year to fart around

LassOfFyvie · 03/07/2019 19:17

I was offered an unconditional place at 17, (end of my 5th year ) and stayed on for much the same reason. As was my son .

There were several people in my hall of residence who were 16, having gone straight from 5th year.

Needmoresleep · 03/07/2019 23:28

My payment to the Gofundme has been returned. No explanation.

mimivanne · 03/07/2019 23:35

The GoFundme seems to have been closed down.I haven't had my payment returned yet though

ZebrasAreBras · 03/07/2019 23:44

Ah, so they can't even let this poor chap have a fundraiser now he's been chucked out of school? Nice.

They have to ensure his complete alienation and try to ruin his future as much as possible for the crime of saying there are only two genders.

OvaHere · 03/07/2019 23:49

That's weird. They refunded almost 4k of donations but the crowdfunder is still up and open to new donations.

Seems dodgy.

Needmoresleep · 03/07/2019 23:49

This is the update from the organiser

"GoFundMe just refunded all donations. Around $4,000. As of yet I have not heard why. I will post more info when I have it."

MagneticSingularity · 03/07/2019 23:50

Possibly Gofundme has been got at, it wouldn’t take much,TRAs would only have to put in a few complaints that the fundraiser is on behalf of a ‘transphobic person’ to get it shut down.
