How dare they?

HOW DARE THEY?

3MONTHS!!! So you can change twice a year then.

16 years old. Counselled by nodding dogs. Child abuse.

Some women? Just a few of us eh? pffff

LGBT Youth Scotland - guidance will be replaced, after impact assesment

Data - working group discussion

Transpeople are top dog.

Women can FRO.

Popchyk · 20/06/2019 15:58

I imagine that there will be a Twitter clean-up operation in the pro self-ID ranks.

All those who said that women won't be affected by self-ID will be deleting those Tweets now. They'll say that they were always for public debate and that they are key stakeholders in that debate. Lots of jostling for position today.

Guaranteed.

My Notes:

The draft bill will do away with the need for medical evidence to get a GRC
Instead applicants must make a statutory declaration that

  • they intend to live permanently in their acquired gender
  • They have been living in their acquired gender for 3 months
  • there will be a 3 months reflection period after the application is made
  • the application must reconfirm that they wish to go ahead
  • it is a criminal offense to knowingly make a false statutory declaration

They will consult on allowing 16 year olds to get a GRC

They will consult on the support required for gender questioning children
Children must be given support from a trusted adult who will listen to them (the examples given did not include parents)

  • no changes will be made for non binary people at this time
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/06/2019 16:00

Fuck me - just watched and the TRAs will be raging! Another consultation and removal of that terrible schools guidance. It's not a lot, but I think there is definitely a glimmer of hope?

It's certainly a lot better and more balanced than it could have been

Popchyk · 20/06/2019 16:01

"it is a criminal offense to knowingly make a false statutory declaration"

How on earth is the state supposed to prove that somebody's feelings were false?

ScottishDoll · 20/06/2019 16:02

Trust the system.

Really?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/06/2019 16:02

The scottish govenrment will offer guidance on upholding the rights of women and trans people - they wish to avoid the rights of some people taking precedence over others

The guidance for schools from LGBT scotland will no longer be used - valid concerns were raised about it, including that it allowed girls to be excluded from single sex spaces

It will be replaced with guidance produced by the scottish government by the end of the year, which will include equality impact assesments

MockerstheFeManist · 20/06/2019 16:03

"false decalration" looks a lot like DWP investigations into disability claims, secret filming to catch you.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/06/2019 16:04

So it’s on then. Activists and other ‘interested’ parties will me

ScottishDoll · 20/06/2019 16:04

No change to the equality act.

(Just keep ignoring it then.)

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/06/2019 16:04

Sex dis-aggregated data

Name check for the wonderful Caroline Criado Perez (not the first or the last time her wonderful book with influence policy I'll be bound)

There will be a working group on sex and gender in data, who will consider the guidance for public bodies in what data to collect in what circumstances

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/06/2019 16:06

(Oops put my hand in my pocket)... will be mobilised to attack and discredit women. Techy keyboard guys will be pumping out misinformation, Twitter will go into meltdown.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/06/2019 16:06

What can women do?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/06/2019 16:06

Oi Patrick - Shirley Anne said it wasn't self declaration!

'all women including transwomen'

pfft

Popchyk · 20/06/2019 16:06

Good to see the end of the LGBT guidance that chucked girls out of single-sex spaces if they didn't want to see a penis there.

Perhaps the Scottish government might wish to reflect on the lobby groups who produced these guidelines in the first place. And whether outsourcing policy to lunatics without any oversight is perhaps a bad move.

But I'm glad this is getting out there.

Lots of ordinary people will be asking what "living as a woman for 3 months" means.

Also lots of sexual assault trials take at least 6 months to get to court, even longer with more serious cases. We'll see lots of offenders awaiting trial who will be clicking on the gender button online just in case they get convicted.

ScottishDoll · 20/06/2019 16:08

Willie Rennie - TWAW and at risk from abusive men

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 20/06/2019 16:08

Patrick's raging.

OvaHere · 20/06/2019 16:09

This seems cautiously positive although I'm yet to be convinced any consultation with women won't be fudged. I consider very few in the government trustworthy.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/06/2019 16:09

yeah, I guess the issue is, what will this GRC mean? I'm still not clear on that. If a man is convicted of rape, will he be allowed to make a statutory declaration? Does that mean he pops off to women's prison?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/06/2019 16:10

current question - better to pass shitty legislation with no consultation now that delay

Hmm
ScottishDoll · 20/06/2019 16:11

Ha - fuck the consultation, can't we just introduce the bill anyhoo!

Harvey - democracy be damned

lazymare · 20/06/2019 16:11

Joan is on

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/06/2019 16:12

Yay! Joan McAlpine

Shero

mentioning women's campaign groups - turns out they're not transphobic

lazymare · 20/06/2019 16:12

She's not holding back/

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 20/06/2019 16:12

Alex Cole Hamilton wants to run the detail through without the consolation?

Did I hear him right?
