Scottish Feminists are the absolute business Flowers

Yup, that sums it up....

InsulatedCup · 24/06/2019 22:51

Presumably, the aim of the proposed legislation is to ensure equal representation of both sexes on public boards.

There are a number of definitions that could be used for those purposes - "menstruators (past or present); uterus-havers (past or present); ova producers (past or present); all a bit biological - so how about "women"?

OccasionalKite · 25/06/2019 00:08

Yes, the words "woman" and "women" should be confined to the class of people your mum belongs/ belonged to.

We all know, really, what a woman is, because we all came out of one. Seven billion-odd on this planet earth now? Every single one of those seven billion people were born out of a woman's body.

Men who are trying to colonise womanhood can just fuck right off.

SCOTTISH GRA REFORM ANNOUNCEMENT BROUGHT FORWARD

This here 'female name,' what would that be in Scotland

And of course Scots from other ethnic backgrounds may well have names that would not be widely recognised as male or female - I'm not an expert on, for example, Korean names...

TimeLady · 25/06/2019 08:21

Why does the gas company need to know your gender/sex anyway, other than to be able to refer to you as Dear Sir/Madam or Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms Abcde in correspondence?

It took me months to insist that my bank dropped the Mrs and printed just my initials and surname on my cheques & bank card (as it did my DH's). All these organisations should be finding ways to make such data gender neutral.

TimeLady · 25/06/2019 08:23

Just a thought....if you specify your pronoun is 'they', are you Dear Sir or Dear Madam?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/06/2019 08:37

Definitely you are then dear sir/madam

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/06/2019 08:38

Or
Dear sweet summer child

Sexnotgender · 25/06/2019 08:42

Or
Dear Blue Haired One

charlestonchaplin · 25/06/2019 08:48

In some ethnic groups, for example the Nigerian Yoruba tribe, many names can be used by males or females. How would their ‘name on a gas bill ‘ test work then?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/06/2019 09:07

Dozens of names in Arabic that are for both men and women.
Some in Kurdish too.

Daughterofmabel · 25/06/2019 09:43

Filled it in. Comments here helped a great deal - thanks

Janie143 · 25/06/2019 09:56

Surely the name on the gas bill or any of the other criteria are all irrelevant as the proposal is that The Act does not require an appointing person to ask a candidate to prove that they meet the definition of woman in the Act So any man can apply as a woman (apart from a transman)

Birdsfoottrefoil · 25/06/2019 10:46

Yes, I wondered about that too - how do they classify a transman?

Ereshkigal · 27/06/2019 11:18

I'm glad there is a consultation because I thought the representation act was a done deal.

Scotland has suffered the worst in the UK from the transactivists' agenda. It's so inspiring to see such a strong pushback from Scottish women's rights organisations.

It seems like the world is looking to UK feminists and UK feminists are looking to Scottish feminists for a way out of this mess.

Scottish feminists are the absolute business

Yes to all this.

Interesting tweets from Joan McAlpine re Representation on Public Boards...

"Decision made by all party committee scrutinising bill at stage 2, not by the SNP. MSPs voting on final bill were totally unaware of change. We're all responsible, but at the time the issue was neither understood nor explored. Changed days...@Scottish_Women"

"The legislation for public boards is not a precedent. Legislation - and law - doesn't work that way in Scotland. It was a mistake. Parliament won't make same mistake again & @Scottish_Women already campaigning to reverse it!"
