Aren't they? Astonishing!

The NSPCC are majorly letting down the very people that they are meant to protect.

If you wish to work with children or vulnerable people in whatever capacity then you should be subject to the same rigorous checks as everyone else no matter how you identify or your sexual orientation.

It really is hard to understand but apparently for some people it is.

WizbetisaNizbet · 13/06/2019 16:59

Isn't hard 🙄

Sarah Phillimore (@SVPhillimore) Tweeted:
Have just sent this email to @NSPCC and would urge all others who share my concerns to do the same. This is serious. twitter.com/SVPhillimore/status/1139186612506714112?s=17

Great thread. To those concerned that the NSPCC story will not be reported - what if an open letter from child safeguarding experts was sent to the newspapers in a similar manner as this one - surely the press would have a duty to report allegations

JackyHolyoake · 13/06/2019 17:29

Great! That is an excellent email from Ms Phillimore .. well done her.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 13/06/2019 17:34

That's a very good letter! But those men on her thread "This is not safeguarding - fact!" Bleurgh. You just know that they're not parents.

Re boundary transgression in this case, this is an interesting tweet from Shelley Charlesworth:

In his now deleted interview on YouTube video he described working at an Ann Summers shop, saying he loved serving women who clearly were uncomfortable with a male assistant. That was the best part he laughed.

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2019 18:31

I find it a bit weird that you'd go from working in Ann Summers to the NSPCC tbh. Great one for the interview process that. But still.

ChiaraRimini · 13/06/2019 18:31

I'm glad that Sarah Phillimore is going to make a report to the Charity Commission.
It's appalling that NSPCC have not, at a minimum, made a public statement and suspended the employee while an investigation is conducted-the clear implication is that they are hoping this will go away if they do nothing.

I was just about to post that in response to And I do wonder if there are people working at NSPCC who have been harassed by this guy. It wouldn't seem out of character, given what we know

Because there was some confusion over the title of the original video, this is from the hosting site (after the video was removed) should journalists anyone need clarity.

Or maybe they agree with the disturbing number of people who think that everyone wanks at work, it's just one of those things and anyway he wasn't directly working with young people...

Goosefoot · 13/06/2019 18:41

Birdsfoottrefoil

It seems that he wore it under his clothing. Based on what I know about fetishes I am guessing that is part of the turn on, wearing it at work while everyone is unsuspecting.

There really is something very obsessive about wanting to bring your sex life out into public all day. I appreciate that sex can be distracting to people at any time, but maybe that is a sign that it should be something you try and overcome?

kesstrel · 13/06/2019 18:46

Worth adding that directly underneath that title of the video, it also says:

Wearing my rubber under my clothes to work, decided to film myself.

kesstrel · 13/06/2019 18:47

The images I can see are from Webcache, by the way.

hipsterfun · 13/06/2019 18:58

Good to see supporting staff, and their kinks, is NSPCC’s priority rather than worrying about awkward things like safeguarding children.

How would they support staff uncomfortable with sexual exhibitionism in the workplace, when it’s seen to be condoned?

R0wantrees · 13/06/2019 18:59

From memory there were other jobs in between.
Think the Anne Summers anecdote was more relevent to the interview about fetish than would have been in an NSPCC one.

RedToothBrush Oops! So it now becomes a police matter!

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2019 19:16

Oh look. Here's the NSPCC social media guidance.

Given this is an employee with a job role which was specifically about media, you'd think they'd have a good understanding of these rules.

I mean look at what it says about linkedin and personal blogs and damage to the reputation of the NSPCC.

Could it be any more explicit in its guidance?
