Kitty Holland of the Irish Times declaring Jean Hatchet’s upcoming ride for murderec women transphobic

When Jean announced an upcoming ride for women, a TRA asked for info, wanting to join with “the ladies” to support “the ladies.” Jean advised that the ride was for women only. The TRA then sent Jean, who has ovarian cancer, a photo of an ovarian scan.

Kitty Holland of the Irish Times then appeared on Jean’s twitter feed to ask why Jean was “having a go” at transwomen.

Despite Jean’s careful explanation that this was a ride specifically to celebrate women in the UK murdered by husbands or boyfriends, and that no transwomen appeared in that grouping, Kitty Holland has continued to tweet about the “transphobia.” She even accused Debbie Hayton of transphobia after Debbie backed Jean.

A TRA posted on twitter a reward for anyone who’d knock Jean off her bike.

For anyone who has a bike but isn’t in London, Jean is now helping others to organize rides in other cities.

Benefits go to Karen Ingalla-Smith’s organisation, nia.

What an absolute shower of shite they are. They can’t even respect murdered women, but still have to make it all about them. This was nothing to do wanting to support Jean, but about targeting a female centred cause, so they could shout transphobia. That’s a new low, even for them.

I thought Jean was very restrained, and did not feel she was bigging herself up at all. I think it is going to be much bigger than what she had initially been thinking of.

2BthatUnnoticed · 11/06/2019 05:19

All support to Jean, I think she is stellar. I saw quite an unpleasant threat on that Twitter thread, someone offering money to anyone who assaulted her. As for sending a scan of an ovary to a woman with ovarian cancer..!! Awful.

Jean if you see this, you’re great, keep going Flowers

Janie143 · 11/06/2019 05:51

Typical self centered and threatening behaviour Lower than a snakes belly

Janie143 · 11/06/2019 05:55

Interesting Twitter bio Kitty has Doesn't seem to be reflected in this situation

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 11/06/2019 06:00

someone offering money to anyone who assaulted her.

I imagine the police are dealing with this as I type...

BickerinBrattle · 11/06/2019 06:06

Streisand effect now in play - the ride is going global, with women participating now in different countries on bikes or exercise bikes.

They reammy cannot cope with something not being about them can they?!

JessicaWakefieldSV · 11/06/2019 07:03

There is no limit to how low they’ll go. Even a fucking event for murdered women now.

That Kitty woman is vile, what kind of woman does that? What the actual fuck?

JessicaWakefieldSV · 11/06/2019 07:03

I imagine the police are dealing with this as I type...

Are they though? I want to know that Jean is safe. This is really awful.

FannyCann · 11/06/2019 07:07

Really objectionable behaviour. Oh and the old trope of trans women being some of the most vulnerable women etc etc. I get SO sick of that one.

lorit · 11/06/2019 07:16

Jean's had years of bullshit from TRA activists on Twitter now. I'm not surprised that she purposefully tries to raise awareness for "both" things at the same time.

ZebrasAreBras · 11/06/2019 07:29

Vile TRAs on that thread. Jean is awesome.

It's just "why can't men run in the Race for Life" - V2.0.

AKA women are not to be allowed to organise without men. Same whiny rhetoric that the men's rights pillocks used.

Men and TRAs - keep your penises, male bodies and male entitlement out of women's space and events.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 11/06/2019 07:32

Honestly when I see bearded blokes tweeting that ‘trans women are women’ and that’s why they should be included, I don’t think they believe that at all. It’s just an easy way for them to disrupt women’s events and insist males can join in. It’s a very convenient angle for gross men who have never wanted us to have anything of our own, who are not trans themselves but just like telling us what to do.

drspouse · 11/06/2019 07:35

while heroically amplifying her own role
She's organised the rides and is riding them. How can that be amplified beyond the actual facts??

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 11/06/2019 07:35

Jean is fabulous.

If TRAs want to do something similar for murdered trans people, why don’t they? Why try to hijack Jean’s plans? Ah, because then that would be letting women have something just for themselves, and that can’t be allowed.

KettlePolly · 11/06/2019 07:38

Jean gets a lot of unwarranted stick in my opinion, she has strong views and her own way of doing things sure but that goes for a lot of activists. Her rides do highlight VAW, so what if "she would have ridden anyway that day" as I saw one critic say? It's one more name out there I might not have seen or be made aware of. Never mind the TRAs, or being a loose cannon, Posie Parker's gone right for her jugular a few times which just looked plain bitchy.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 11/06/2019 07:49

I’d love it if the focus wasn’t about picking apart women who put themselves out there, like jean and Posie do. Everyone has their own way of doing things.

nettie434 · 11/06/2019 07:54

It is abhorrent to send Jean a picture of an ovary. I think what makes them angry is that by focusing the rides on women murdered in the UK by men, it becomes clear that trans women are not the most vulnerable group in terms of deaths by murder.

Karen’s website says 148 women were murdered last year in which a man was the suspect or main suspect. I believe one trans woman was murdered last year. Of course that is one death too many and I admit the number is very different in other countries.

It is a deliberate tactic to obfuscate the fact that anyone fundraising has the right to choose which cause/group of people to focus on and that Jean does not have to apply the Equality Act as if she were a public body or organisation delivering a service.

KennDodd · 11/06/2019 07:55

I imagine the police are dealing with this as I type...
Do you mean by interviewing Jean about her transphobic hate crime?

OrchidInTheSun · 11/06/2019 08:01

What's she done Kenn? It's perfectly okay for her to arrange a women only event.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 11/06/2019 08:04

Jean is amazing and it seems there are now rides happening in Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Suffolk, Cambridge, Wales if anyone wants to join in.

FlapsMagazine · 11/06/2019 08:09

Kitty's awful, just awful

SunsetBeetch · 11/06/2019 08:09

Here is a screenshot of the threatening tweet about Jean.
