Kitty Holland of the Irish Times declaring Jean Hatchet’s upcoming ride for murderec women transphobic

When Jean announced an upcoming ride for women, a TRA asked for info, wanting to join with “the ladies” to support “the ladies.” Jean advised that the ride was for women only. The TRA then sent Jean, who has ovarian cancer, a photo of an ovarian scan.

Kitty Holland of the Irish Times then appeared on Jean’s twitter feed to ask why Jean was “having a go” at transwomen.

Despite Jean’s careful explanation that this was a ride specifically to celebrate women in the UK murdered by husbands or boyfriends, and that no transwomen appeared in that grouping, Kitty Holland has continued to tweet about the “transphobia.” She even accused Debbie Hayton of transphobia after Debbie backed Jean.

A TRA posted on twitter a reward for anyone who’d knock Jean off her bike.

For anyone who has a bike but isn’t in London, Jean is now helping others to organize rides in other cities.

Benefits go to Karen Ingalla-Smith’s organisation, nia.

Why don’t TW organise their own ride?

Because those with bikes are too busy beating women in sports events.

Grin Careful, you'll summon the McKinnon....

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2019 12:34

As a male transperson you are more likely to be a murderer than murdered, in the UK. That might be why their ride would fall flat...

beagadorsrock · 11/06/2019 12:40

In answer to 'why don't Trans People and the alphabet people organise their own" - they have a great platform too:

don't they have a trans day of remembrance where 'Stonewall Champion' institutions fly the flag at half mast and actually enforce a minute of silence to 'remember' all the TQNB (NOT the LGB, that is a Trans day not a LGBT day) who were victims of ... the criminal facts get fuzzy, not sure it's only about murders (cos that would be 2 in the UK in a year, and the rest mostly people in South America / North America, mostly of colour, mostly engaged in the empowering work that is sex work)?

Instead of a minute silence, they could have a lovely joyful bicycle ride. By themselves, for themselves and their friends.

I just made a little enquiry to the NUJ, I don’t now if Kitty is a member or not... if she is, another member can report her tweets:

if a fellow Union member feels a tweet has breached the standards set out in our Rule Book, they are free to make a complaint and it will be investigated.

So if other journalist feels like it, they can report Kitty’s tweets.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 11/06/2019 13:56

Sorry had a big typo in my post, Kitty said: "Some men are far better feminists than some women especially than terfs"

Is Kitty new to this debate? Is she collecting woke points, how can she claim a man to be a better feminist than women, does she know anything about feminism if she thinks a man can be a better feminist. How can she use the slur terf. And how in the name of God can she actually call a woman who rides for murdered women transphobic. Even if she were new to this debate would you really think this is the way to get involved.

Sexnotgender · 11/06/2019 13:58

I’m sure they won’t let awkward facts like these get in the way of their ride for the mostest oppressed in all the land.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2019 14:05

A certain Women’s officer is tweeting that they are more likely to be attacked by a “C**” woman than that woman is to be attacked by a trans person.
The madness ! The lies ! I suppose the hope is that if you tell enough lies then some people will believe you ?

FlippinFumin · 11/06/2019 14:26

The lying has worked for them thus far. Even as far as people believing the cyclist is a real medical scientific Doctor. And the made up suicide stats. And hormones don’t do lasting harm. And Trans people are the most oppressed ever and they started Stonewall. And women are violent. Although to be fair they are working really hard to skew the stats on that one.

As well as that tweet, Lily has also had a pop at Karen Ingala Smith. Remind us what YOU have done for all women again, Lily?

Annasgirl yes and you've highlighted part of the problem; the nepotism that promotes someone like KH to a position vastly beyond her capabilities. Not the only one in the IT either. Which is one of the reasons I barely read it anymore. Sad

JessicaWakefieldSV · 11/06/2019 17:40

I love getting a good old laugh from Lily! Fact! It’s not a fact though is it Lily? It’s just another made up nonsense thing. Like how Lily thinks she will be able to get pregnant in the future.

3timeslucky · 11/06/2019 20:02

For a group so (self-)reportedly subject to "erasure" they seem to be incredibly resistant to being anything but centre of attention.

3timeslucky · 11/06/2019 20:03

Is Kitty new to this debate? Is she collecting woke points

No and Yes. She's an Irish journalist and as such woker-than-woke.

maresedotes · 11/06/2019 20:07

This makes me fucking sick. Jean does a brilliant thing (and has done for several years) but is getting stick for not including men or transwomen. She has been so polite on twitter but it's just not good enough for them is it? Let them organise their own bike ride and leave women to organise theirs. Bunch of twats.

BreakWindandFire · 11/06/2019 20:55

I just made a little enquiry to the NUJ, I don’t now if Kitty is a member or not... if she is, another member can report her tweets:

I'm an NUJ member but I won't report her. Firstly I think that she has the right to free speech, unless she is making direct threats of violence. Censorship and complaints to employers are the tactics of the men's rights side in this debate.

Secondly, I'm quite happy for her to make a complete arse of herself in public, piously simpering away at someone with cancer making tremendous efforts to overcome her health problems in order to do something for women.

BreakWindandFire · 11/06/2019 20:57

Remind us what YOU have done for all women again, Lily?

Lily scribbled on her stunning and brave hand, and took a photo for public consumption, despite the sharpie clashing horribly with her nail polish.

Datun · 11/06/2019 21:02

Secondly, I'm quite happy for her to make a complete arse of herself in public, piously simpering away at someone with cancer making tremendous efforts to overcome her health problems in order to do something for women.

Exactly. Let her tell everyone who she is.

Absolutely Pachyderm. And journalism ssems to be one of the worst occupations for this. Really, this is is total non story. There are many more ways of acknowledging discrimination than this.

You are right, there is a trans day of remembrance beagasrock. We must remember to check out that Kitty is putting herself out to commemorate it when it happens next in March 2020.
