Prostasia Foundation - Child protection or dismantling Safeguarding?

Credit to Agilelass for flagging these people in the Dr Em Unicorns thread, I thought they warranted a thread of their own.

prostasia.org

They claim to be concerned about child protection but a look at what they are promoting and saying sounds to me far more like they are trying to dismantle safeguarding measures by saying they don't work.

They have/had a campaign in support of child sex dolls [anger]

Should we be worried about them? Anyone know anything more about the key players?

Just bumping to add this article by Anna Slatz

www.thepostmillennial.com/the-bizarre-world-of-tax-exempt-pedophiles/

For many, charitable status is a legitimizing factor taken into consideration when choosing what organization or foundation to donate to. Government recognition that an entity’s work is valid enough to exempt them from taxes is often a good indicator of the work’s importance.

However, there are always exceptions.

This author found that three organizations had been granted full IRS tax-exempt status while encouraging, advocating for the rights of, or working to dismantle important safeguards against pedophiles and their access to children.

The California-based organization Prostasia was given IRS tax exemption in 2018. While marketing itself as a children’s rights organization, Prostasia is a veritable grab-bag of causes surrounding sex and sexuality, but many believe it represents something far more sinister.

In Prostasia’s blog entries, “child protection” routinely ends up in the same sentences as “free speech,” “kink,” or “sex positivity.” The topics of ageplay, furries, hentai, and prostitution are spoken about no differently as, and often with no barrier between, child sexuality and child sexual abuse.

Crikey first link about age gap relationships and after some caveats about law and maturity merrily says how being attracted to particular age ranges is totally normal and fixed in someone's personality. So finding children attractive is absolutely normal then as long as you don't do anything Hmm Hiding in plain sight! How abhorrent.

KettlePolly · 03/12/2019 08:21

And a reference to "munches" aka fetish get togethers... To quote Magdalen Berns "VOMITING FOREVER."

It's like the joke about vegans: "how do you know if someone is part of the kink community? - Don't worry they'll bloody tell you"

SunsetBeetch · 07/12/2019 13:43

Here they are defending child sex dolls:

"Effective 20 September, Australia has banned possession of sex dolls that resemble "a person who is, or appears to be, under 18 years of age" or even "a part of the body of such a person," with a penalty of 15 years imprisonment.

15 years. Over a sex toy.

totally normal and fixed in someone's personality.

This is key in several ways. One is the conflation of something that occurs as a "fixed" thing, as a hardware component if you will, with it being normal, and normal with good. By this logic anything that is a "born this way" question means that thing is just a variation of human types, not an abnormality. Born with no stomach, normal!

And then, there is normal = ok, not a problem.

The next step of course is to say that the behaviour that comes out of that is also not a problem, indeed, a human right.
We really need to stop accepting this train of thought whenever we see it, even in cases where we think the behaviour is ok, that logic is not correct. If we validate the logic it can be used for all kinds of seriously negative things.
The other issue is of course that in most cases, we haven't a clear idea to what degree any sexuality is a hardware vs software question, or perhaps it can be both. Again, it's not a good idea to get into the habit of making statements that sound definitive about things we don't have clear evidence about.
It's by making statements that sound definitive that many people people get sucked into different ideologies, and it's when we have an opinion about what is likely and it seems ok to sound definitive that we make that kind of fudging seem ok to people.

@NeurotrashWarrior

JFC.

The post about cartoon CSA....

I think there are links to the stuff in Japan here. I believe it was till recently or still is legal to buy anime magazines with CSA in them.

mumsnet

Still legal? So are you saying that fictional material is still illegal in some places? Wow, talking about primitive cultures.

Imnobody4 · 25/07/2021 14:05

Old thread being revived, poster obviously has an interest in the subject.

R0wantrees · 25/07/2021 14:06

ImpHullaBaloo CSA means Child Sexual Abuse

Effective Child Protection/ Safeguarding frameworks are not 'primitive'. You may wish to consider your priorities.

It is however always useful to bump this thread so that more parents and responsible adults are aware of Prostasia Foundation.

madmomma · 25/07/2021 14:09

The name says it all. They're not even hiding it. Genuinely, profoundly sickening.

I'm not especially interested in paedophilia apologism, no. But feel free to state exactly what it is you stand for so the mothers here can tear your arguments into confetti and be forewarned about whatever bullshit you're pushing now.

Is it Sunday? I think it is.

I do love the notion that the women posting here are the ones able to get someone banned. There's an amusing irony there, of course.
But it's reassuring to note that noncery and stupidity do sometimes go together.

Goodness, lots of new visitors interested in this old thread today. Hmm

Got an image of the Mod having to deal with this, plate of custard creams and a cuppa by their elbow, distractedly pressing the banhammer button every five minutes while reading Take a Break.

Not really sure what the point is, tbh. Creating accounts for the sole purpose of having them blink out of existence seems like an odd hobby. Still, I can't talk, I used to do very complicated counted cross stitch and never finish a project.
