It’s such an abuse of trust for Childline to give this advice.
Apart from anything else what qualifies Childline to start dishing out encouragement to kids towards having drastically invasive, permanent, hormonal medical or surgical interventions?
Do they know these come with enormous risk of side effects (..associations with osteoporosis, lowering IQ, raising cancer risks, total fertility loss and more)? Binders that stop girls being physically active and can break their ribs?
Interventions like these- painful and debilitating- lack an evidence base of benefit. What happens if the child changes their mind, then they are stuck in that body? It doesn’t bear thinking about.
Much of this is not something the NHS would offer a young person under 18, so why is Childine promoting it?
Why are Childline not promoting mental health support and talking therapies on their pages- why even mention making changes to your body?
Who has got to Childline and why is validating those people more important to them than supporting confused kids?
This climate of inappropriate advice is a paediatric health issue and it needs urgent government attention and investigation.
