Someone got a reply from the SSA letter:

"Thank you for your thoughtful letter. There is considerable confusion about Ms Burgdorf's role. We will clarify publicly very shortly and I will respond properly to you in the wake of that."

StealthPolarBear · 07/06/2019 20:30

Ooh that sounds hopeful

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/06/2019 20:40

Can they not even spell MBs name correctly?

hipsterfun · 07/06/2019 21:57

Someone got a reply from the SSA letter

What’s the SSA letter?

OrchidInTheSun · 07/06/2019 22:09

SSA=Safe Schools Alliance

ChickenonaMug · 07/06/2019 22:10

The NSPCC have released this statement about Munroe Bergdorf's involvement with them and Peter Wanless their CEO has promised, on twitter, a fuller response to the SSA letter next week.

ChattyLion · 07/06/2019 22:25

Eh? that statement doesn’t make it any better. Even if NSPCC have only wheeled out MB as part of their rainbow-washing for Pride month (and they aren’t at all embarrassed about that), MB is still a completely inappropriate choice to front a kids’ charity campaign.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 07/06/2019 22:31

That statement shows that the NSPCC are on the back foot - they know that this was an indefensible 'appointment' and are thrashing around trying to think of reasons to justify the unacceptable.

Oldstyle · 07/06/2019 22:32

Safer Schools Alliance is an excellent new grassroots organisation working to safeguard kids - straight, gay and trans. They've written a superb letter to NSPCC about MB's appointment.
twitter.com/SafeSchools_…/status/1137060370361782272

They've asked people to share it, resend a version to NSPCC or send your own message to CEO Peter Wanless: [email protected]

And PLEASE follow their FB page. This is vitally important work & they are just ordinary women doing this in their spare time. They deserve all the support we can muster, and so do our kids.

It’s abundantly clear there’s a lot of confusion at the NSPCC.

And not one person capable of joined-up thinking. Or proofreading.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/06/2019 22:33

Refers them to Young Stonewall.

They may as well have just pasted in the url direct to the Webberleys' clinic.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 07/06/2019 22:35

It appears that there's considerable confusion about safeguarding at the NSPCC these days. No wonder they so glibly appointed an adult who invites children to contact them online.

SarahTancredi · 07/06/2019 22:38

They arent making things any better for themselves are they Hmm

OvaHere · 07/06/2019 22:38

Well that statement is wildly different to Munroe's interpretation of their role. Question is did Munroe exaggerate in the first place or have the NSPCC backed off to save face?

C&P statement wording as we know how these things have a habit of being withdrawn or revised.

Munroe Bergdorf has supported the most recent phase of Childline’s campaign which aims to support children with LGBTQ+ concerns. Munroe has been referred to as a Childline Ambassador. At no point has she been an Ambassador for the Charity. She will have no ongoing relationship with Childline or the NSPCC. The NSPCC does not support, endorse or authorise any personal statements made by any celebrities who contribute to campaigns. Childline is available to children without condition to provide support whatever the nature of their concerns.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 07/06/2019 22:44

The NSPCC have lots of celebrities who they publicly recognise. Can't see MB in this list:

nonsenceagain · 07/06/2019 22:45

That’s an embarrassing response.

SarahTancredi · 07/06/2019 22:48

That’s an embarrassing response

Yes it basically admits it's all a waste of time.they dont have anything to do with them. They dont condone anything that peope have or haven't done and the person is nothing to do with them.

Then what's the point of the video then?

Just looked through the gender and sexuality resources on the childline website and it's full of the usual word salad about magic gender essence, sex assigned at birth, feeling like a boy/girl, and expressing your gender through various stereotypes. The sexuality page does manage to describe homosexuality as same sex attraction though, so that's good (pathetic that I'm impressed by that in 2019). Also, according to their huge menu of possible sexualities, it turns out I'm not just plain ol' boring straight, I'm actually either "heteroflexible - People who think of themselves as straight but may also sometimes be attracted to people from the same sex" or "Crossed orientation - people who experience a romantic or emotional attraction that is different from their sexual attraction. For example, someone may feel emotionally attracted to girls but sexually attracted to boys." So, yay me I guess, break out the rainbow flags.

I honestly feel so sorry for children and teens growing up today. The unbelievable need to force everyone to pick a label and get in a box is so harmful. Not every single facet of our personalities needs it's own flag ffs!

What could explain the huge increase in calls to Childline about gender issues, I wonder, when the website provides such clarity.

NSPCC are now in damage limitation mode. They may start replying to all of you who wrote in. Please take this as an opportunity to engage with them and ask that they please meet with Transgender Trend to discuss how to support children who do not conform to sexist stereotypes but are not 'transgender'. The danger is that only signposting kids to Stonewall, Mermaids etc then it will cement the trans identity rather than encouraging them to simply be non-conforming and happy in their own skin. Also ask Childline and NSPCC to sign post children to Transgender Trend as well as all the trans lobby groups (Stonewall etc) on their web pages.

DrG · 08/06/2019 06:47

Thanks for your, hopefully, successful lobbying on this.
Transgender Trend are currently fundraising and, unlike chil

DrG · 08/06/2019 06:49

Darn it.. and unlike the NSPCC have an unblemished record in child safeguarding,

Someone who worked for childline congratulated her on the tweet and said they were looking forward to working with her
