change the details section here from Gender to SEX since that is what is actually being asked. Sex matters.

Your children

Mumsnet offers regular emails on your children's development. If you'd like to receive regular emails on your child(ren)'s development, please record their details here.

Gender

Seconded @MNHQ!

Pretty please with a cherry on top.

Gender equals stereotype, help us fight sexism.

and me!

barelove · 05/06/2019 17:21

What’s the purpose of collecting the info? If it’s to keep parents informed on the expected physical developments of their kids, like testosterone surges in boys, then it’s flipping obvious that they should be asking for the sex of the children.

Unless, of course, MN are just planning on keeping parents updated with the latest gender stereotypical outfits and toys they should be giving their DCs that month?

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 05/06/2019 17:28

Yes!!

crosstalk · 05/06/2019 17:32

Totally agree. Why not sex? perhaps HQ can explain.

Yeahnahyeah · 05/06/2019 17:36

Sex. It's sex.

How we got this mess. Words matter.

JackyHolyoake · 05/06/2019 17:37

Oh dear Mumsnet!

Sex = female; gender = learned stereotyped behaviours described as feminine / femininity

Sex = male; gender = learned stereotyped behaviours described as masculine / masculinity

TopBitchoftheWitches · 05/06/2019 17:40

It is biological sex @mnhq

I am quite sure you are aware of biology and science. Gender, as I am quite sure you are also aware, is a feeling, not biological sex.

lorit · 05/06/2019 17:41

They probably want gender to advertise to, don't they?

BonjourMinou · 05/06/2019 17:47

Yep agree

stillathing · 05/06/2019 17:51

Yes!

OrchidInTheSun · 05/06/2019 17:54

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/06/2019 18:00

Ooh yes. Unless they put an open text box there (I’m ‘superspacevixen’ gender - well today anyway).

MogTheSleepyCat · 05/06/2019 18:02

I wholeheartedly agree.

ginghamstarfish · 05/06/2019 18:06

Agree, please change it.
