Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Even when they get what they want....

....they still scream "transphobia!"

UCLA have said that they will install a number of unisex bathrooms throughout campus. These will have floor to ceiling partitions to protect privacy. Now students are claiming that this is transphobia as it implies that trans people are all peeping toms. They get what they claim they want, but they want it on their terms not ours.

@Mandala6 don't worry, it's the way it always goes. How the hell people can say that isn't a pile on?!

It isn't a pile on. It's a number of people who happen to share similar views and fears responding. That's called debate. And to be fair, Mandala brought it on him/herself with all the nonsense about souls. If a trans person isn't religious and therefore might not have a soul, how will they know which gender they should be?

ILoveMaxiBondi · 31/05/2019 15:32

This makes no sense.

  1. transwomen want to use the female bathroom because of harassment from men in the male toilets

  2. a unisex toilet is accessible to men

  3. transwomen should be relieved that the cubicles will be fully enclosed to protect them from the men they are trying to avoid in the first place.

  4. what benefit is there to transpeople of having gaps at the top and bottom of the cubicles? Confused what do they need the gaps for?

It's not exactly a discussion is it?
With rocks and tissues etc as soon as somebody says something else ?

With rocks and tissues etc as soon as somebody says something else?

Let's be honest, it's a message board, it's not like people are butting in and talking over others.

BoxOfBabyCheeses · 31/05/2019 15:36

@LimeKiwi I think you're mistaking humour for a pile on. If you haven't noticed Mumsnet is full of sarcasm and sideways humour. Or are us women not allowed to have personalities and a sense of humour?

Erm...... transwomen are more likely to be sex offenders.

General male prison population - 18% sex offenders
(known) Transwomen prison population - 41% sex offenders

I suspect the number of paraphiliacs far outweighs those with genuine gender dysphoria, so the above figure is not suprising.

Sexnotgender · 31/05/2019 15:41

It's not exactly a discussion is it?

Of course it’s a discussion. One person says something. Someone else asks them for an explanation/more details or whatever. Someone else says something.

The fact that none of the VERY basic questions were answered is not our fault.

FloralBunting · 31/05/2019 15:42

LimeKiwi just likes finger wagging. It's tedious and designed to waste time, and obscure that no actual question gets answered.

You just need to know that LimeKiwi disapproves of the women on FWR.

AlwaysComingHome · 31/05/2019 15:43

God, I hope there’s no such thing as a gendered soul. I’d hate to think this bollocks is going to follow us into the next life. I was praying for blissful oblivion.

BoxOfBabyCheeses · 31/05/2019 15:46

I couldn't agree more @AlwaysComingHome!

I saw something odd on twitter recently - but I don't know where, sorry. Someone said they'd been unable to find any news stories about transwomen being attacked in men's toilets, but oddly they'd found two stories (I think) of transwomen being attacked in women's toilets.

The suggestion was that transwomen would actually be safer using men's loos.

Does anybody know the facts behind this?

Kilbranan · 31/05/2019 16:05

limekiwi have you read the Scotsman article linked on another thread about the effect of transwomen in women’s prisons?? Threatening to rape inmates and staff, punching walls, striding round in tight clothing with a visible erection. Anyone who would defend the right of transwomen to be in a female prison clearly does not care about the safety of women and prioritises male bodied people over women
This is the reality of self id. It’s risks the safety of women. Women need sex segregated spaces

LimeKiwi · 31/05/2019 16:19

LimeKiwi disapproves of the women on FWR

No I don't Confused
I don't always agree if that's what you mean? I certainly don't "disapprove" as you put it Confused

Datun · 31/05/2019 16:25

When someone first remarks that transwomen are real women and people ask well in that case, what is your definition of woman, and the answer is oh grow up, I should imagine 99.9% of the people involved in the thread would take exception to it.

It can hardly come as a surprise.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 31/05/2019 16:30

I would have thought that a male person trying to convince people that they are a woman would welcome privacy when peeing. 🤷‍♀️

StillLostinEdinburgh · 31/05/2019 16:38

I think they believe a woman is someone who is recognised as a woman by everybody else. Hence the need for validation - particularly by adult human females. And the tantrums if that need isn't met.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 31/05/2019 16:43

It they won’t be keen to risk having a pesky woman peeing a willy through gaps in the doors.

Mandala6

However do I believe that their soul is that which they identify as? That it is truly possibly to be born into the wrong gendered body and to have the right to choose to live as your authentic self and to have the choice respected. Yes I do.

Practice your trans religion as you please but women's rights are not subject to your religion. I reject your belief in the trans religion (suspension of all logical arguments)... humans can't change their sex/biology. I think you have made men attempting to perform "woman" your deity - by giving up your critical thinking in light of a misogynistic belief serving only men. This is not unlike aligning with the Abrahamic religions. I respect your right to believe as you wish just as I respect any religious individual's right to believe in the deity(-ies) of their choice but I don't agree. My respect ends where my rights begin.

I shall not bow down to any ideology to the detriment of my rights for any reason. Believe what you want, genuflect to the trans ideology if you wish but your belief is just that and not fact.

Afterlife means nothing to me - this life is everything to me and I won't suspend logic to cater to another's belief.

My faith rests in science - ever evolving, falsifiable, replicable, and logical.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 31/05/2019 17:23

I think they believe a woman is someone who is recognised as a woman by everybody else.

😂😂😂 no they don’t! None of them believe that. They know what a woman is.

StillLostinEdinburgh · 31/05/2019 17:43

Actually I'm not sure they do really. They don’t even understand the biology. I mean what about this hrt nonsense. Women's hormones fluctuate all the time. Well not mine because I'm old Grin
