Seems like Dr Mike Webberley has now also been suspended and he and his wife now plan to take their services overseas. Can't see this reported elsewhere yet though.

Maybe this opens the doors to lawsuits?

It will certainly help to support the claimants' cases.

September 2017 Times article by Andrew Gilligan:

"GP gave child, 12, sex change drug
The medical regulator has launched an inquiry into a doctor who gave out hormones that could leave girls infertile"
(extracts)
"Cross-sex hormone treatment, which Webberley has prescribed for a number of child patients, causes permanent body changes and compromises fertility. NHS guidelines do not allow it for children.

After complaints by two NHS consultants, the General Medical Council, the doctors’ disciplinary body, has begun an investigation into Webberley and imposed an order that prevents her from treating transgender patients unsupervised.

Last night she said the restriction “stops me” but was not a finding of fault.

“It’s a temporary thing while they’re investigating,” she said and blamed the inquiry on a “mafia” of consultants.

Webberley, who charges between £75 and £150 an hour, said she catered for children who had been denied sex- change treatment on the NHS and were “screaming in agony at being stuck in a puberty that isn’t right for them”.

She said she had given cross-sex hormones to four child patients. “Giving it at 12 is a very unusual situation — but if you met that child, you would say, ‘Oh my goodness, I understand that now,’” she said. (continues)

Dr Polly Carmichael, of England’s only NHS gender identity clinic for children at the Tavistock Centre in north London, said: “We are talking about very young people and one of the things about young people is that their thinking changes.

“Really having consent is about the ability to fully weigh up all the options and the risks. Given the irreversibility of some of the steps, we need to be careful.”

For under-16s seeking to change sex, the NHS can prescribe “blockers” that prevent development in puberty. Carmichael said most of her clinic’s child patients did not decide to go on blockers or go on to have cross-sex hormone therapy at 16.

Webberley said: “To keep [children] pre-pubertal until they’re 16 is just killing for them, literally, because they do harm themselves.” (continues)

I wonder if Helen Webberley sees James Barrett as part of her alleged 'mafia' of consultants?

FannyCann · 18/05/2019 20:34

Oh thanks Rowan I didn't think that could be correct.

andyoldlabour · 18/05/2019 20:59

I wonder where the Soros money is going now?

PencilsInSpace · 18/05/2019 21:51

Is there anyone on GenderGP's 'therapy team' who has a qualification above a BACP accredited counselling diploma?

It's a useful qualification - I've got one and I learnt loads while training - but it's entry level and non-specialist. No way should someone with just this qualification be making decisions that could result in a child being sterilised.

Only one of the counsellors on the 'therapy team' actually states that they even have a diploma. The rest just call themselves 'person centred counsellors'. Counsellor is not a protected term so it's not clear if the other 8 counsellors have any qualifications at all.

So they've got this lot and they've got a GP (suspended) and a gastroenterologist (suspended).

Who is qualified to provide a diagnosis of GD?

How is this 'bridging care' supposed to work? Do patients need an NHS diagnosis of GD before being prescribed puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones by gendergp? Or is the 'bridge' between self-medication and engaging with NHS services in the first place?

Could I approach an online GP and get a 'bridging' prescription of amphetamine based meds because I self-ID as ADHD?

sd123bris · 18/05/2019 22:09

As the father of a 14 year old trans child currently registered to Dr Webberley’s clinic I was shocked by this thread. I wonder who has the agenda. Why does the, undoubtedly genuine, occurrence of gender dysphoria create so much bile in people it does not directly affect? There is an enormous amount of distress being caused to young people by the failure of the NHS to care for them. Why don’t you let us be to fight our battles for our children and not spread misinformation and transphobic hate?

R0wantrees · 18/05/2019 22:19

It has a specific set of criteria which at one point Dr Helen Webberley blogged on GenderGP. I think it was later taken down.
(which IMO seemed irresponsible)

Yes in short, no diagnosis of gender dysphoria by GIDS. GP can issue 'bridging' script prior to a patient being seen by specialist services.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/05/2019 22:23

sd123bris - a crime was committed.

OldCrone · 18/05/2019 22:25

What you see here, sd123bris, is concern for the wellbeing of children who are being unnecessarily medicated with drugs which have irreversible effects and appalling side effects. The hatred is directed at the doctors who are doing this. You will find only sympathy for the children who are being medicated in this way.

Children who suffer from gender dysphoria need sympathetic counselling, not medication. The medication should only be given to adults who have the ability to fully understand the effects, not to children who are being told that they can actually change sex.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/05/2019 22:26

I wonder who has the agenda

Yes, is it the husband and wife team of doctors, committing the crime.
Or the random internet forum of people horrified by that crime?

PencilsInSpace · 18/05/2019 22:26

Why do parents on a parenting website care about what happens to children? Complete mystery Hmm

OldCrone · 18/05/2019 22:27

GP can issue 'bridging' script prior to a patient being seen by specialist services.

So this is treatment for gender dysphoria which is effectively based on self-diagnosis. Is that right?

R0wantrees · 18/05/2019 22:27

sd123bris

If you believe there is 'transphobic hate' please report it.

Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults should be everyone's concern & responsibility.

LangCleg · 18/05/2019 22:29

Being pro-safeguarding and child protection, and doctors operating illegal clinics is bile?

I don't think so.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/05/2019 22:29

not spread misinformation

Please point out the misinformation on this thread?

LangCleg · 18/05/2019 22:29

sorry: against doctors operating...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/05/2019 22:31

sd123bris - did the doctor mention that what they were doing was illegal? If not I’d be bloody raging at them.

sd123bris · 18/05/2019 22:37

My last comment. So it’s my post that gets deleted not the one calling me a dodgy parent and mentioning paedos and drug dealers. I’ll leave you guys to it and watch Eurovision with my son. I’m guessing I’m the only parent on this thread with any truly direct experience of what you’re discussing but I’m obviously prevented from doing so myself.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/05/2019 22:39

You have no idea.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/05/2019 22:39

I’m the only parent on this thread with any truly direct experience of what you’re discussing but I’m obviously prevented from doing so myself.

I and many other here actual fall under the stonewall trans-umbrella.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/05/2019 22:41

Didn’t everyone these days?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/05/2019 22:41

only those special enough.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/05/2019 22:42

Yup. Even sandwiches are these days.

Interesting first post, also interesting that bris refers to the circumcision of male children. Any agenda going on with you?
