Sara Pascoe on The Guilty Feminist

Sara Pascoe has drunk the Kool Aid. Her bit on the Guilty Feminist about how weird cis women are scared of trans women sharing a bathroom with other women.

Long bit about how amazing it is that there are so many sexes, not just a binary, and all of this on a podcast about women in science.

I can only dip into the podcast as discussed in a previous thread Deborah Frances-White enraged me with her TWAW themes.

The first part of the podcast is really good though, talking to two, award winning women in STEM.

What a shame, I really like her.

I would probably have felt the same when I was young, hadn’t had kids and hadn’t a lifetime of experiencing patriarchy and sexism behind me. Basically, she’s probably naive.

I got her autobiography on audible. It started with great promise and the first chapter was building up to her getting it (I was eve composing a "yay, Sara understands!" post for here in my head) and right at the end she didn't. I had to stop listening after that which made me sad.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 16/05/2019 23:07

Disappointing. But I am not really that surprised, she seems like a man-pleaser.

AlwaysComingHome · 16/05/2019 23:11

Her autobiography is entitled Animal: The Autobiography of a Female Body.

How does she reconcile that with a belief anyone can be a woman?

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 16/05/2019 23:13

Her bit on the Guilty Feminist about how weird cis women are scared of trans women sharing a bathroom with other women.

I genuinely struggle to understand why she thinks a male person suddenly stops being male when they declare themselves trans.

Long bit about how amazing it is that there are so many sexes, not just a binary, and all of this on a podcast about women in science.

This is just silly. Why does she think that there are more than two sexes, does she have a name for the other sexes?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/05/2019 23:15

She’s as nad as Aisling Bea 🙄

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/05/2019 23:16

nad - bad

Drink, no, say it ain't so! What has Aisling said? I really like her Sad

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/05/2019 23:52

It was during the Celebrity Bake Off. She baked that rainbow cake for her friends at the “LGBTQ+“ community. The “TBQ+” - she actually said all that including “plus” - was quite telling. Clearly a Kool Aid drinker. Then she was talking about some bull about she’d love if everyone would just love each other, etc. Well, yes it’d be nice, wouldn’t it be lovely, meanwhile in real world... She came across so naive/
Such an airhead.
Saying that I’m sure you can find at clip on the web and judge for yourself. I was 🤮

groundcontroltomontydon · 17/05/2019 00:09

If you advocate the removal of women's few and hard-won rights to enhance your own woke credentials then you're not a feminist

GeordieGenes · 17/05/2019 00:13

Has the “Guilty Feminist” ever featured a gender critical woman?

Orchidoptic · 17/05/2019 00:21

Why does one have to be guilty to be a feminist?

Jog22 · 17/05/2019 00:55

They'd start off the show with something like; "I'm a feminist but I hate my housemate for always looking so polished" They'd say how they were so NOT feminist and 'normal' but that it was also ok to be a feminist! I'm not explaining this well.

lucasthecat · 17/05/2019 05:39

I am disappointed rather than angry - mainly because her attitude reminds me of my kids - now in their 20s - we’ve agreed to disagree over my view the penis can never be a female sex organ - and it’s wasted energy being permanently angry with my other wise well meaning offspring - Sarah Pascoe does right think partly because she is young and Hip - but I also feel high profile celebs have been groomed from Eamon Holmes to Frankie Boyle - watching TV you would think 90% of the population was right behind Self ID - Her radio comedy about science and females was excellent - so this TWAW is doubly disappointing - I wonder how much she silences any GC doubts she has having seen the pile ons targeting Robert Webb and Graham Linehan

LizzieSiddal · 17/05/2019 07:07

Like others I’m angry that she’s thinks women who don’t want to share bathrooms with male bodied men, are “weird”.

It seems she saves her empathy for men. Sara is not a feminist.

Igneococcus · 17/05/2019 07:38

I would have been surprised if she were GC. I would be surprised if any of the comedians that are on any of the panel/comedy shows would be openly GC. I have given up on shows like HIGNFY because I can't bear the selfrighteous smugness of the participants anymore.

buttyblahblah · 17/05/2019 07:43

It's just so disappointing.

Standard Issue seems to be trans free but not "out" as GC. I haven't caught up recently but I keep hoping they will discuss trans athletes in women's sports.

I guess the real reason they stay away from those topics is fear of the backlash if they are ever less than totally onboard with TWAW.

OP posts:
lucasthecat · 17/05/2019 07:46

I get the impression Ian Hislop (HIGNFY) and Private Eye are definitely GC - they champion free speach and hate lazy thinking and have exposed some of the financial irregularities of Trans organisations - so if Hislop ever said TWAW - I would definitely move from disappointed to angry - because I expect more from him than Woke bros/gals

Igneococcus · 17/05/2019 07:48

I agree with that lucas

ThursdayLastWeek · 17/05/2019 07:48

I stopped listening to TGF over 12 months ago now because they used the word 'cis' in every damn episode.

I went off Sara Pascoe a while ago when her and Josh Widdicombe were horrible to a caller in to his radio show, just because that caller didn’t know she was vegan

EverardDigby · 17/05/2019 07:51

Plenty of us who GC and didn't want to share space with men when we were younger. We're called women who were abused by men as children. Unfortunately no amount of white or middle class privilege can completely prevent many of us experiencing lifelong mental and emotional distress that has meant our lives aren't what they could have been, and we have a bloody good reason to be frightened by men. But hey, at least we're not as oppressed as men who want to be women 🙄.

Ian Hislop is definitely GC. I’m sure Jo Brand and Paul Merton are too.
