People on here and elsewhere who argue against supporting this law suit because they don't like Harry the Owl, are missing the point of the legal challenge.
I personally didn't like the poem and wouldn't have put it on my social media either. I am sure I would completely disagree with him about some things. He may be a complete prat for all I know. All those things are irrelevant.
I don't want to live in a society where people can be 'brought in for questioning', rung up by the police to check their thinking, or have the possibility of being accused of a 'non crime hate incident' for expressing their opinions, or sharing lawful material. It gives the police (the state) powers to harass people and dampens public discussion on public issues. It is gender identity today. What will it be in 10 years?
If lobby groups can frame a discussion about policy/the law (in fact any issue) as being against a group who are protected by hate speech laws, and sell that framing to the police, then they can shut down any public discussion of it.
