I can’t believe what I’ve just watched. Eddie Izzard is on Joe Rogan saying ALL bathrooms should be gender neutral and completely dismissed the concerns women have that Joe brought up. He dismissed it as “people always complain when there’s change”

The whole thing is so selfish and entitled.

I agree about the idiot politicians and companies Hithere12 and that we have to fight strongly against this, but I am so furious that I have to explain and justify when a simple NO should suffice.

VickyEadie · 05/05/2019 22:43

I have a female partner. We've been together for 20 years now. I won't pee in front of her because I can't - just like others have mentioned. If I knew a man was possibly going be anywhere near, I wouldn't go in, let alone pee.

The onus should be on Izzard, JY, and the rest, to explain why their need to share a bathroom with women and young girls outweighs women and young girl’s right to privacy.

MoleSmokes

Too right!

Voice0fReason · 05/05/2019 23:14

Eddie, you have a penis, your opinion in this matter is irrelevant.
Fuck off.

Well your googling skills are a bit rubbish - all
UK;

www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/latest-news/warning-over-coat-hook-spy-cameras-installed-on-public-toilet-doors-1-9104021

This link doesn't describe any incidents,it just says these hooks are available but hasn't said anything about what kind of toilets they were found in or who was convicted.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-england-birmingham-42994420

A public toilet (doesn't specificy single or unisex) and his parents house and holiday home.

www.stamfordmercury.co.uk/news/voyeur-caretaker-filmed-students-in-toilets-9064231/

These cameras were fitted in single sex female toilets

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.lurganmail.co.uk/news/police-probe-after-camera-found-in-hospital-toilets-1-8550782/amp

This article doesn't specify whether it was a female or male toilet or who was targeted.

www.google.co.uk/amp/www.ladbible.com/more/uk-viral-security-guard-finds-hidden-camera-in-disabled-toilets-20170622.amp.html

So this one is legit - a disabled toilet, presumably unisex as most of them are.

Well this one was in the gents as boys were the target

And another one in a single sex female only toilet

lookatallthepeaches · 05/05/2019 23:40

According to the links you've supplied, you're at as much risk from cameras in single sex facilities as you are in unisex.

All this demonstrates is that men can, and will, and do these shitty things.

Single sex toilets are no guarantee of safety, boys are at risk too, and it's not just public toilets we need to be wary of.

ThePurportedDoctoress · 05/05/2019 23:43

But why do we even have to lower ourselves by explaining in intimate detail why we don’t want to share toilets with men?

We just don’t want to and we make up 51% of the population. We don’t need to explain ourselves or ask permission. We just need to constantly say no.

I agree 100%.
And stop calling yourself a lesbian, Eddie, you utter knob.

FloralBunting · 05/05/2019 23:44

Not about 'guarantees', chum, its about reducing risk.

And frankly, its a pretty fucking stupid argument to say "Men willperve on you anywhere, best just let them in to get on with it."

Fucksake.

RubberTreePlant · 05/05/2019 23:48

Has anyone got any links to an instance where cameras have been planted in public toilets?

Google it yourself. It's not obscure information. There have been many cases.

lookatallthepeaches · 05/05/2019 23:50

My point is, according to the evidence you've provided here - it's not going to reduce risk.

A cynic may read this and conclude that you just hate males, trans or otherwise.

lookatallthepeaches · 05/05/2019 23:52

"And frankly, its a pretty fucking stupid argument to say "Men willperve on you anywhere, best just let them in to get on with it."

Fucksake."

That's not an argument I made. That is not what I said. It's a shame you feel you have to misrepresent what I'm saying and put words in my mouth.

Datun · 05/05/2019 23:52

All this demonstrates is that men can, and will, and do these shitty things.

Correct.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/05/2019 23:52

rubber

Apparently its not cameras in public toilets any,ore

Goalposts have changed...

FloralBunting · 05/05/2019 23:56

Ah, we hate males now? Ding ding ding, we have a winner!

And on that delightful note, I shall toddle off to bed, cursing a few crops before I clean my teeth in my man hatey way.

Night all. (Eddie, stay the fuck out of women's toilets, there's a good chap)

lookatallthepeaches · 05/05/2019 23:57

?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/05/2019 23:57

I got confused upthread

I couldnt figure out why eadie(vicky) wasn't allowed to be in the ladies loo Grin

Eddie you fool!!

Datun · 06/05/2019 00:12

cursing a few crops before I clean my teeth in my man hatey way.

I shall be letting the dog out male loathingly.

OhMsBeliever · 06/05/2019 00:19

It's not like cameras in toilets are a new thing. Chuck Berry? I read that as teen and have been (probably mostly irrationally) worried about it ever since.

I had my miscarriage in a work toilet. I'm still paranoid about being heard changing my pad during periods. I wipe and get blood on my hands, I flood and have to change my clothes. I spend a long time doing that.
I don't want Eddie in there asking me why I'm taking so long in the toilet!

CharlieParley · 06/05/2019 00:35

My point is, according to the evidence you've provided here - it's not going to reduce risk.

Spectacularly failing to understand what we're talking about. Changing all female-only facilities to mixed-sex will increase risk to females. That's precisely why we oppose it.

We are defending the existence of female-only provisions and campaigning against the abolition of single-sex facilities that females are granted the right to as per domestic law, our human rights as per the UN's CEDAW (that the UK is a signatory to) and as per the wishes of the majority of the group most adversely affected by changing to mixed-sex facilities, ie females.

What this means is that we are seeking to at worst maintain the risk at current levels, but aiming to at least eventually reduce it through a raft of measures, including teaching males to respect female boundaries, training females that they have the right to assert these boundaries around their own bodies against all males as well as raising public awareness, always hoping to one day eliminate risk altogether.

The current setup means that only the most determined perverts invade women's toilets, those whose perverted need is stronger than the social taboo against entering female-only facilities despite the huge risk of getting caught. In mixed-sex facilities, whether that is via so called gender neutral facilities or via allowing self-identifying males into female-only facilities, there will be no risk inherent in a pervert's mere presence in the facility. They will have every right to be there and we can't protest against it.

As for examples, I have a local one for you: 18 year-old pervert identifying as trans using female-only public toilets, first attempting to video a 12 year-old girl using the loo then progressing to assaulting a ten year-old girl in a different town, again in a female-only public toilet.

We will never know whether that pervert would have dared to enter a female-only toilet if people like you hadn't advocated for abolishing the right of females to safety and privacy in single-sex facilities.

But we do know, as the pervert was actually accompanied by a social worker on the second occasion, that had people like you not made female-only toilets unsafe by demanding access for males, said social worker would have accompanied said pervert to the male-only toilet in the second supermarket and said pervert would not have been able to follow that poor little girl into the women's toilets.

Of course, I expect you to dismiss this incident a la "one bad apple" etc. Which would lead me to ask, how many little girls must be terrorised and traumatised for life before people like you consider the price too high?

One girl is too much for me. What about you?

Btw, I grow and store fruit now and one bad apple definitely rots the whole tray. And the fact that this pervert hasn't been disowned unlike Karen White or Yanniv or the other predators, but instead got placed in a hostel with vulnerable women (because they weren't girls and so presumably considered fair game) with nothing but radio silence from the usual orgs clamouring to abolish women's sex-based rights is rather telling.

RedDogsBeg · 06/05/2019 00:35

Safety is not 100% guaranteed anywhere so that is a lame argument, the idea is to reduce risk and increase safety levels as much as possible.

There are fewer unisex toilets and changing rooms as a percentage yet they account for the highest percentage of incidents of sexual assault. There are recent figures on this, look them up. They reduce safety and increase risk.

However, for the millionth time - I do not want to share toilets or changing rooms with male bodied people because I DON'T WANT TO. If you think that makes me a man hater so be it, but all the men I know - family, friends, colleagues don't want to share toilets or changing rooms with female bodied people either so by your twisted logic they must hate women too, whereas that is not the case on either side.

There are myriad reasons for single sex spaces and none of them have anything to do with hatred.
