How can he be so obtuse? I can only assume he has never spent time with children?

Goodness me, I hadn't seen that before. I have little time for either OJ or JHB, though both (like the proverbial stopped clock) occasionally say things I agree with.

I was sort of with him when he was trying to make the point that it was, indeed, a homophobic attack, but his behaviour was sub 10-year-old petulant hissy-fit.

Cismyfatarse1 · 09/04/2019 12:27

Amarou appeared at the Fringe as part of Denim the Reunion. The group is definitely parody. Not sure if Amarou is gay but others in the group are straight Etonians parodying Drag / Celebrity culture.

zanahoria · 09/04/2019 12:56

" Has Amrou come out as a parody?"

My guess is that he is actually Sacha Baron Cohen

Bloody hell, some thugs beaten Owen Jones up.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/aug/17/guardian-columnist-owen-jones-attack-pub-london

I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Scary times

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 17/08/2019 22:31

I was shocked to see this report: not clear whether it was generalised violence, homophobic violence or someone targeting Owen jones. I hope he is ok.

Butterymuffin · 17/08/2019 22:36

Yes, I have lots of points of disagreement with OJ but physically attacking him is awful and a worrying development. I hope they can find and charge the attackers.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 17/08/2019 22:59

Oh, this is really dreadful news. Scary times, indeed.

ChattyLion · 17/08/2019 22:59

Just seen this on BBC and was coming on to wish Owen Jones all the very best and to hope that they find his attackers very quickly. What an absolutely horrific experience for him.

TemporaryPermanent · 17/08/2019 23:09

He won't want my good wishes but he has them in spades. What a horrific attack. Sounds like sheer luck that he's not having to be in hospital.

Floisme · 17/08/2019 23:57

That’s shocking. Best wishes to Owen Jones.

Datun · 18/08/2019 00:09

Awful. Bloody awful. Mindless thugs. I hope they were filed on CCTV.

Datun · 18/08/2019 00:09

filmed

Goosefoot · 18/08/2019 03:30

It looks to me like they attacked him specifically. It must have been very frightening.

NonnyMouse1337 · 18/08/2019 08:00

What an awful experience! I hope they find the group. He must be pretty shaken up. Best wishes to him.

Blackopal · 18/08/2019 08:22

I am extremely sorry to see any victim of male violence. Awful.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 18/08/2019 08:45

Male violence again Flowers

wacademia · 18/08/2019 10:32

Can't help but contrast the above messages of condemnation of this vile attack by males against Mr Jones with Jess Bradley's (and other trans privilege activists) messages of approval of the attack by males against Maria (Skepticat). It's almost as though radical feminists recognise male violence as always a bad thing, even when it's directed against people we disagree with and who seek to remove our rights.

I hand on heart hope that Mr Jones makes a full recovery from his injuries and that his assailants are brought to justice. Physical attacks are never OK.

Michelleoftheresistance · 18/08/2019 10:55

Appalling. I hope the cctv evidence is there, and those thugs get everything they deserve.

hipsterfun · 18/08/2019 11:44

He won't want my good wishes but he has them in spades.

Possibly, but I’d like to think we’re still in a place where we can set differences of opinion aside, and offer and accept sincere best wishes and solidarity when something horrifying like this happens. It’s really important.

Best wishes, Owen Flowers

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 18/08/2019 12:36

From the Guardian link:
“We were about 30 metres away, saying goodbye to each other, when four men charged directly towards me..."

So he was able to tell they were men without asking what they identified as, was he? Bigoted assumption on his part.

I don't want anyone to be beaten up, but he has been condoning, justifying, minimising and near-revelling in violence against women for so long I can't say I have unlimited sympathy for this particular person. If that makes me a horrible person, so be it.

CharlieParley · 18/08/2019 13:03

That must have been so frightening. I hope he'll recover quickly from the beating and the mental injuries such an attack causes.

A friend's DH is still dealing with the injuries he sustained in a similar attack last year. It's been tough on the whole family and just makes me think how lucky Owen Jones was to walk away from that without needing hospital treatment.

It's still truly shocking to me how willing some men are to hurt another human being. For opinions.

hereforasillygoosetime · 18/08/2019 13:22

How does he know this was a 'far right' attack though? He has said they didn't speak, or at least he didn't hear them say anything if they did.

He's wasted no time in using the incident to his advantage has he.

KettlePolly · 18/08/2019 13:30

I agree politics and snark should be put aside. It was an appalling and frightening attack and I hope they catch the perpetrators.

MargueritaBlue · 18/08/2019 13:36

I hope he is ok. It must have been very frightening.

I send my solidarity to Owen Jones and his friends who were attacked last night

Dianne Abbott also pulled the "solidarity" line. Normal people would express sympathy and ask if he is ok.
