Mermaids - new statement

I can't find a thread that mentions this. Sorry if this has been covered but didn't want it to get lost:
Times Lucy has tried to question Mermaids again - but as usual, they won't be questioned and just put out a statement:

That is really odd. Either the Times have backed down, or they are going to reveal something big soonish.

RedToothBrush · 07/04/2019 17:54

Or they are watching how Mermaids have reacted each time and thought that's interesting.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/04/2019 19:43

Testing the water maybe

FermatsTheorem · 07/04/2019 20:34

Or maybe the article Lucy is working on got bumped by the article on the TRA toolkits for schools. I think the Sunday Times may have an editorial policy of not having two articles on transgenderism in the same issue.

RedToothBrush · 07/04/2019 21:55

I think if the times want to run a series of big stories on the same matter, they'd pick a week where a big story is less likely to be overvshadowed.

So as other politics are kicked slowly down the road by short extension and deadline, other things are put on hold.

The timetable of the last 3 weeks has changed rather a lot in terms of what was expected and is a bit in limbo at the moment. That just gives a bit more time to research further too.

Brexit has a lot to answer for.

RedToothBrush · 07/04/2019 22:03

Well the Telegraph really have the internet in their sights....

I just caught the end of the paper review on R4. They mentioned The Times and “Transgender Children” but I didn’t get the whole thing.

LizzieSiddal · 07/04/2019 23:06

It’s the front page headline for tomorrow.

Scroll down.

7/4/19 HSJ Interview with Susie Green (CEO Mermaids) "currently involved in writing care guidelines for prepubescent children as a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health."

(extract)
"In the meantime, [Susie Green] urges NHS staff – especially decision makers – to spend time with trans children.

“People’s opinions are being formed by the media – who make an outrage out of something that is just part of a person’s identity. [But] it should be these young people having their voices heard and having their opinions listened to.”

She adds that Mermaids often facilitates meetings between trans children, their parents and those “who are making massive decisions [affecting them] without the knowledge or understanding of what [their] lives are actually like”. (continues)

bit more than just providing information & resources?

RedToothBrush · 07/04/2019 23:12

Interesting framing as 'gay conversion'.

EweSurname · 07/04/2019 23:18

I know it's not about the "personalities" involved and we should be celebrating that light is finally being shone on this horrendous scandal but I've just seen that the minimising/dismissing has started already

Part of the ‘respectable’ British media increasingly resembling Fox News is the Times going full batshit

Heartening comments on that Twitter feed

RedToothBrush · 07/04/2019 23:31

How many comments are there supporting Bastani? On his own twitter feed?

EweSurname · 07/04/2019 23:44

Yes, that's true!

R0wantrees · 08/04/2019 00:41

important current thread with links to four Times articles highlighting serious Safeguarding & Duty of Care issues concerning the treatment of children questioning their gender identity issues. The roles played by GIDS Tavistock, Mermaids, GIRES & Gendered Intelligence are criticised by medical professionals:

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 08/04/2019 01:00

Yes!!!

Well done everyone at The Times! 💐

buzzbobbly · 08/04/2019 07:13

Have just done a quick trawl of the usual Twitter mouthpieces.

LOJ: POsted the link and is getting more or less slated for it, with particular mention of the gay conversion sections (he is a gay man).

Susie Green: Not a peep. Odd, that.

(Not Dr-on-Twitter-anymore) Adrian Harrop: Not posting in his own name, but trying to throw NHS staff who contributed to the article under the bus by RT an article by a Trans NHS account.

Stonewall: Nothing (since Apr 4th). Strangely quiet for such a gobby organisation.

Mermaids: Another oddly silent account.

Susie Green (once more for emphasis): Not. A. Word.

Fazackerley · 08/04/2019 07:23

Interesting buzz

buzzbobbly · 08/04/2019 07:27

Quite so, Fazackerly. I mean, Mermaids had clear knowledge that something was coming and the jungle drums would have been on high alert for it.

And other accounts are vainly trying to spin it (ineffectively but almost charmingly desperately, if the topic was not so horrifying).

At worst case, one of their MN minions could have shared these threads hours ago...

Fazackerley · 08/04/2019 07:30

I'd say this is impossible to spin, but nothing surprises me anymore.

I am waiting for.somwthing big to happen, like when someone has finally stuck up for themselves in the face of abuse. The abuser is never happy.

TimeLady · 08/04/2019 07:41

All five (clinicians) said they believed that transgender charities such as Mermaids were having a “harmful” effect by allegedly promoting transition as a cure-all solution for confused adolescents. The charities deny the allegation.

The Times isn't mincing its words. Flowers

RedToothBrush · 08/04/2019 07:49

I'd say this is impossible to spin, but nothing surprises me anymore

Donald Trump is president and you still think this??!!

Na it just means there will be an all out DARVO offensive coming. Particularly against MN.

EweSurname · 08/04/2019 07:50

Helen Webberly isn't being quiet but is seizing the opportunity to promote her grift
